I thought it came a week early - couple years ago I think the draft ran into May.

What sucks is going into this draft there are few scenarios which will leave me happy because I don't love this draft class so only a select few guys who are "my guys" that would satisfy me next weekend. And I gotta be honest, I'm not feeling great about the Eagles next season, I think it could be a rough year, so I'm kinda hoping for an exciting draft to give me some juice, which may be a fool's errand.

it did - the last day of this month is also on a Thursday. April is weird this year

That was 2021 when the last day was May 1.

Yeah, it looks like WR3 is comparable to other teams - it's just that we kind of stop flat there while more guys get involved elsewhere.

I think this is a combination of predictable, stale playcalling and mostly the fact that Hurts sucks at going through his progressions.

These college prospects have to go through a rigorous process to become NFL players, but I don't think most would be willing to go that far. If you really are looking for a few guys to satisfy you next weekend, there are apps for that.

Well the evidence shows other teams 3rd WR stats are comparable and typical across most teams over many years. So the narrative that Hurts sucks at going through progressions because his 3rd WR stats are low, when he has two 1,000 yard receivers, is bad logic. By that logic, all these other QBs with WR3 with comparable stats also suck at going through progressions.

Hurts does miss open receivers, and I'll never argue he's a great passer. He's never going to be a top pure passer in the league. But any team that has 2 stud WRs is going to throw mainly to those 2 stud WRs. If there are teams with 3rd and 4th WRs getting an amount of targets, receptions and yards that is more than the typical, then you have to look at their WR group as a whole. Typically, you either have 2-3 guys getting the most or you have the ball spread around but no one getting elite WR numbers. Dotson had better stats than the Rams 3rd WR Xavier Smith. And the Rams only had one WR over 1,000 yards. Does that mean Hurts is a better passer and better at reading defenses and going through progressions than Matthew Stafford?

On another front, it’s a little weird that the Ryan Fowler dude said he was joining eagles coverage on NBCPhilly and Zangaro hasn’t acknowledged it at all to my knowledge

I think he is specifically draft coverage, not beat coverage

I actually feel the same way in general. We do need some needle-moving juice infused at some point this offseason. Otherwise, I'm just not feeling great about our prospects with the "new offense". But...ya never know, I suppose.

Every year there are always fans that are surprised about the draft date as if it's unusual. I think it's just excitement waiting for it. Here are the draft dates from the last 20 years. They are consistent with it over the years*. It starts on the 4th Thursday in April (exceptions based on how the calendar falls, sometimes it's works out to the 5th Thursday). But as you can see it's in that 23-28 date range most years.

(*2014 was an outlier where it started May 8, the NFL had to push it because of a scheduling conflict at the venue. Since they used to always do it in NY at Radio City Music Hall, they didn't want to change locations so they pushed the dates back. Later, they started having it at other locations.)

2025: April 24–26

2024: April 25–27

2023: April 27–29

2022: April 28–30

2021: April 29 – May 1

2020: April 23–25

2019: April 25–27

2018: April 26–28

2017: April 27–29

2016: April 28–30

2015: April 30 – May 2

2014: May 8–10

2013: April 25–27

2012: April 26–28

2011: April 28–30

2010: April 22–24

Craziest draft in the last 30 years. Teams may take 32 first round picks.

Well, the apparent "juice" is hiring 3 new offensive coaches, all who could be an OC to address the offense. Patullo and O line injuries were the main problems. If either one of them were great it would have assisted the other (A good OC may not have played the walking wounded Dickerson and Jurgens, or misused personnel like the TEs. And a dominant O line and run game would have covered up for the OC).

The roster is one of the best in the NFL still. The "juice" is already on the team. Stud young defensive players, led by Fangio and still having a championship level defense. The biggest loss IMO is Blankenship and safety is a position of concern. However they added a starting quality CB2 which was THE weakest position on the roster last year. Phillips leaving hurts, although he was a mid season trade so we didn't have him very long. Dean I liked but we knew was inevitable. They retained Epps to give a decent starter at safety so they're not desperate, though they need to draft one as well (Howie said they're not done at safety).

With a talented roster that wins a SB, guys leave. It just happened to Seattle. So part of the "juice" for a SB winning roster sometimes is who they were able to keep. Jordan Davis, Goedert, Fred Johnson to shore up the O line depth. Acquiring improved WR depth (yes they likely will lose AJ Brown, also was inevitable).

So the draft does have needs and wants like literally every year. Last year the biggest concern was CB2 which was the weakest position on the team, and yet was not at all the reason for last year's problems. Once Adoree Jackson settled into the role he was serviceable enough and the defense as a whole played well enough. The offense was the problem and they have an expensive roster full of star players. They clearly need to draft O line for depth and future, maybe starting this year given injury problems. They should be taking 2 O linemen at least.

So the juice this year is:

  • New innovative offensive coaches including one who is a "rising star" and considered a future head coach already

  • Woolen at CB2 to solidify that position

  • Hollywood Brown, Wicks and Elijah Moore to give WR depth

  • Extending Jordan Davis: one of the core defensive player dominoes to fall

If they come away in the draft with a quality O linemen who can step in to start (this year or next), a decent safety, a quality Edge, a TE and perhaps a future development WR or Corner that's "juice" plus they are never done, they're always adding even in August.

Enough with your facts. The evidence also shows that on a first date with me, you won't remember the majority of the night, and you'll wake up with a sore butthole covered in vasoline. This is not the exception - it is the rule.

That is strange with the Stafford stats. Of course Hurts is not better at reading defenses than Matt Stafford - anyone with eyes can tell you that. Maybe it's because Puka has turned into an absolute freak of a receiver, on another level above both Brown and Smith. Not feeding him this much would probably hurt their offense.

Coming off a .5 sack performance every reporter says Giants should get a 1st rounder and more. For AJ Brown reporters say Eagles should get a 9th rounder and a few helmets from New England.
