I kept thinking he needed another year when I was watching his film. The way he ended last season left a lot of questions. This way he gets to show he can be more consistent across a full season with his mechanics. Well, less the 2 game suspension.

The other part of watching his film was realizing that playing for Cincinnati didn't do him any favors. He lifted the receiving corp considerably and they disappeared on him in big games. His receiving corp was just blanketed against Utah and Arizona. He made some nice contested throws, back shoulder and throwing his receivers open, but they didn't help him out at all.

I guess it was Cris Carter. I happened to be in Atlanta the weekend of the supplemental draft that year and was actually at a Braves-Expos game in a sparse crowd of about 4,000 people. (We had a free afternoon and my buddy suggested we check out a major league game just to do it). For some reason, they showed an announcement on the scoreboard that the Eagles had drafted Carter. Not a single person in the stadium seemed to give a damn, but I screamed in excitement at the news. I knew Carter was a really good player and a bargain in the fourth round.

He went from a team in the Titans that never won anything to the Eagles who paid him, gave up draft picks for him, in five years never missed the playoffs, went two two Super Bowls and won one. And he did have individual stats along the way.

But in the end AJ will be missed as a true presence in this offense but for some reason he won’t be missed and this offense will actually be better. And meanwhile back in New England, he’ll either get a ton of passes and stats and New England will be mediocre or he won’t get his stats and New England will be mediocre but either way, I give the Eagles a better chance of getting back to the Super Bowl before the Patriots .

Will be an interesting psychological experiment if the offense doesn't look great to see who people blame. On one hand, after blaming all of 2025 on Kevin Patullo, blaming the OC again would be a tired act. On the other hand, many people seem to want to blame everyone but Hurts for the offense's woes. Ah, actually, I got it. It'll be Chris Kuper's fault.

Imagine simping for KP and a player who actively tried to sabotage last season.

The actual real order:

1. OL health. Steen was the only guy healthy most of the season

2. Patullo. Not very good at play design and not very good at play calling in-game. Not very good x not very good = no damn good

3. Hurts. The offense bogged down weekly for 5-7 3-and-outs consecutively -- often after 1-2 TD drives. Needs to get his head out of his patullo.

4. A.J. Brown. Half-assery x crybabiness x drama = the Howie Hallmark Goodbye Card

5. Barkley. No one should expect back-to-back 2,000-yard seasons, but that's what would have been needed for the offense to look functional

There are some fans that just will not blame Hurts even if the offense sucks in 2026 though

Unless the line is a train wreck, this season is on Hurts and Nick if it fails. They are the constants.
