In the tradition of McNabb the dog (see signature), may I present our newest family member. Barkley the Bernedoodle

Nah, McNabb was pretty darn good in 2004 and he ran a lot less that year.

Yeah, McNabb ran less because we had TO and Westbrook. Just look at the mad scramble against the cowboys before the bomb to Freddie Mitchell. He still had his athleticism at that point. He really started to decline athletically around 2007-2008.

None the less, he did pretty well in the pocket and yes he needed some receivers like any QB.

That worked pretty well for the Eagles in 2024.

Then you wouldn't be disappointed.

Frankly, the Texans really need a Qb that doesn’t turn it over and can consistently give them above average Qb play. Stroud has regressed since his rookie year. I don’t see him being that guy

TO is the only better offensive weapon in 2004 compared to what Hurts has though. Love Westbrook but he's not Saquon. And the other receivers were Freddie Mitchell, Todd Pinkston and Chad Lewis. Hell even with the injury concerns I'll take our current OL compared to that year.

Random question:

If you were to take every QB coming out of college in NFL history and take away the knowledge of their NFL careers, so the only knowledge we have of them is how they were coming out of college. You put all them into a draft, which QB is taken first?

I'm gonna go Vick or Andrew Luck.

Are there any fan bases that hate their starting QB as much as Philly?

We have seen exactly 1 dominant season of Barkley in his career including Giants.

His one dominant season he had his pick of numerous airport runway sized holes to run through on any given play. Averaging some crazy amount of yards before contact.

Westbrook never had the same share of carries but Id argue he was far more consistent year to year, far better vision, and more dangerous as a more versatile dual threat. Far better at creating his own yardage. And he carried the offense at times in both the passing and ground game.

Barkley was a homerun or bust runner in NY and again, has 1 season of true greatness here. And 1 season of total suck where he danced too much and wasn't effective. Barkley has his work cut out for him to be considered a better weapon than Westbrook.

MAYBE as a receiver but as a rusher? Not even close. Barkley has 25 more yards per game rushing average than Westbrook. And if you're going to hold having a good OL against him in his 1 year of dominance (as of his vision didn't contribute at all to his yards before contact) what does 6 years of garbage in NY buy him?

Again love Westbrook. I'll even buy him as a better receiver than Barkley. But not as a rusher.

Yes, many. The ones that are apathetic. Caring comes out sideways sometimes... but apathy means the money isn't there, their contracts shrink and they get less money to put up with the grief and criticism.

Westbrook an MVP candidate. He was him. His knees did him dirty.

Oh I'm sure plenty. Imagine being a Browns fan and not hating your QBs lol

Now hating their QBs with winning records and SB appearances? That's a better question. Having a hard time thinking of one. Did Giants fans hate Eli? Trying to think of a SB winning QB with major flaws.

Barkley in NY to me was a lot like CJ Spiller. The speed often let them break a long run most games but in between the glitz and glamor of those few plays, it was 1 yard, 2 yards, loss of yards, 2 yards..., loss of yards...

An example of a really awesome RB saddled by poor OL play was Stephen Jackson with the Rams. He was more reliable. He probably only ran for like 3 yards most kf the time but it was 3 yards, 3 yards, 4 yards, 3 yards, 3 yards...

He was consistent and reliable and created tough yardage when It wasn't there.

Barkley takes many more losses and does not run heard to create tough yardage.

Hes a special athlete who can do special things...when given space. But he needs an ideal set of circumstances. Hes not great on his own. Hes barely even good on his own. Jackson was still good, on his own.

The thing is about divorce is that assets like a football franchis can be marital property. Christina still got to keep a stake in the Eagles.

Other fanbases are weak. Also, I am pretty sure Cowboys fans hate Dak.

Philly fans love Jalen Hurts. The same fan base that throws a hissy fit and gets their panties in a bunch of you say he's not a top 3 QB people all over have a meltdown.

Barkley is the better player, obviously, but Westbrook was better than Barkley in the passing game.

My point is that McNabb didn’t start to lose his athleticism until after the injury in 2006. It went slowly, then all at once. And even as he put up career best passing numbers he clearly wasn’t the impact player he was earlier in his career.

Young made a successful transition. Cunningham had one MVP caliber year and then was toast. I really can’t think of any other QBs who spent the early part of their career winning through sheer athleticism and then developed into pocket passers later on. I hope Hurts proves me wrong, but I’m skeptical he’ll ever be that type of player.

I really think some team is going to have a huge edge in roster construction if they realize that athletic QBs on rookie deals are highly fungible compared to pure passers, and you can free up massive amounts of cap space by just cycling through them. Obviously if you hit on one who is athletic AND an elite passer you keep them, but otherwise I’m in favor of playing money ball at QB with athletic QBs who are just decent passers, keep your cap allocation low, and put a super team around them. That’s basically what we did in 2022, and even though Hurts was on his second deal for 2024 he really didn’t play like a top ten QB.

I kinda think Hurts’ best comp continues to be Russell Wilson. Not a clean comp, as Wilson was more a scrambler and Hurts a runner, but apt. Shorter, thrives outside the numbers, best passing deep.

I expect Hurts’ cliff to be similar to Wilson’s too. Really hope that when we move on, whether it’s sooner or later, we can get a haul for him before he reaches the cliff. Because then it will be really ugly.

Regular season Dak is ok, Post season Dak…yeh fair statement.

In westbrook's prime, there was Tomlinson, Westbrook, and Faulk who were absolutely dominating, feared offensive weapons.

Barkley is usually, outside of one season, never one of the top 3 RBs, nor dual threat RBs in the league.

If I was building a team and I have a choice between those two as my RB, Id take Westbrook without hesitation.

Agree

I would have also considered John Elway for that spot
