That's gotta be last year. Covey hasn't worn 85 in awhile and I think the QB in the red jersey is Kyle McCord

Still, Mannion plans to pull at least something from the prior offense. lol

Worth noting for Carter's extension

Well that's definitely an incentive to play better and get that kind of payday lol

It doesn't hurt when the franchise owner is in your corner! He will get more leeway than people think here.

Which is why Hurts would REALLY have to crap the bed to not be kept.

Like I've been saying for weeks in here, Carter may want to bet on himself and most likely seeks close to unicorn money by being highest paid defender in league or closer to that(paid around Parsons deal of $47M per year). But even as highest paid DT his salary just shot up. And will likely to continue to. Only reason for Howie to sign Carter now is to pay him at a good deal. There is a chance that he's just a real risky investment with his shoulders and maturity level.

My line in the sand for Carter was $35M. He's probably now in the $40M per year range in his and his agent's mind. Is he worth $14M more than Jordan Davis? I don't think he takes anything less, but may take and want more. And if you are Howie, you just hold the line and let him prove it and crush it next year and revisit this next year. Don't think he has earned this mega contract yet, with really only one great year to date. No doubt his potential is mouth watering. Parsons got his record breaking contract based on 4 dominant years. If he gets too high to afford next year (as we have plenty of guys waiting in line to extend), you can trade him for a minimum of two 1st rounders and a starter. Not a terrible fallback. Regardless, he's playing his ass off this year seeking that new huge contract. A hold in situation would not help that effort. I can see a true standstill developing here at this point.

Simmons is flat out better and more established and reliable than Carter. Carter has the tantalizing upside, but also some on the field maturity issues and roughed up shoulders. Not sure how you can pay Carter more than Simmons, right now. If Carter tears it up this year then fine, but if he insists on being paid more than Simmons tomorrow, not sure how that's justified at this moment.

There has been a shift in quarterback play for quite some time now that I think people who are old enough to remember 15-20 years ago and watched guys like Peyton, Brady, prime Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rivers, etc can’t really comprehend. Overall the position has declined, is less reliant on field generals, and the guys that come out now and have been coming out for almost a decade now are less polished. You can now get away with having quarterbacks like Darnold, Hurts, Bo Nix, Purdy and making a deep playoff run or even win a Super Bowl. So many people are enamored with generational QBs like Mahomes thinking they come out every year instead of realizing the reality of them being very rare.

This team is built well enough where if Hurts is a top 7-12 QB they are good enough to go deep and win it all. The same way he was in 2024. Teams aren’t as focused anymore as relying on ungodly talent at QB and are instead building the team around them whether that’s through the offensive line, running game, or defense. That has been the blueprint Roseman has been using for 6-7 years now. It’s also why a team like Buffalo can’t get over the hump: they’re too reliant on Allen.

If Houston had a top 15 QB in the playoffs last year instead of Stroud playing like Mike McMahon, they probably would have won the AFC.

I wonder if the reason there haven't been really good passing quarterbacks come out of college is that if they were heralded, coaches only had them for 3 years. Seems like it'd be quicker to develop a good 'athletic' quarterback (mediocre passer) in 3 years than a strong passing game with good receivers. Will we see more player development in college with NIL? More players staying 4 years or more? Stay tuned I guess.

Howie grew up a huge NY sports fan. Kind of like how KAT and Brunson on that team don’t shy away from being big Eagles fans, how Mike Trout is at Eagles games and not Rams games, Fangio kept his Phillies fanaticism even when coaching for SF and CHI

Steve Young, but he needed 3 things:
1 - change of scenery.
2 - Time to sit and watch.
3 - Working with perhaps the greatest QB whisperer of all-time, Bill Walsh.

Steve Young rushed for a career high 76 attempts in 92 i believe? Hurts was afraid to run last year and had 105. Young averaged 6 runs per game 1 year…but was pretty steady in how much he took off. I wouldn’t really say he adjusted or changed. He got better for sure at the QB game.

How about Roger Staubach? Not only was he very much a running QB in college (Navy) but he took five years off after school to complete his military service. It dates me to mention that I saw him play Michigan in Ann Arbor and win. That was the first football game I ever attended.

Didn’t he have no knees by the time he made it to the NFL? Or am i thinking of Namath?

Porn stash, trying to look like Minshew. Brasil shirt. Shoulda played soccer. Better using his legs than his arm. Arms lacking definition. Looks like he is on the Joel Embiid workout plans to get out of shape. Too many shirley temples and chick fil a sandwiches. Drawstring shorts and tucked in shirt. Looks like an old gym teacher.

Random question:

If you were to take every QB coming out of college in NFL history and take away the knowledge of their NFL careers, so the only knowledge we have of them is how they were coming out of college. You put all them into a draft, which QB is taken first?

I'm gonna go Vick or Andrew Luck.

Elway…Luck is probably the only one to ever come close to being that level of a prospect at the QB position.

On 6/18/2026 at 3:29 PM, HazletonEagle said:

I get that the premise was that you know nothing about their NFL careers. But those guys were considered the best QB prospects of a generation, and they backed it up as NFLers.

The one guy who does come in to the conversation if you are ignoring the NFL career is Luck because he was such a good QB and also had the athleticism.

But the premise really does fail to set up any surprise names. The guys who became the best of the best were already projected to be that in college. You cant really sneak some uber athlete like Vick in to the mix. And when you go back to some elite offenses like say Leinart with USC... he still wasnt considered in the Peyton/Elway conversation even during his awesome college days.

You should take a dive into Luck’s career and stats…Luck backed it up too. Spent less time on the injured list than you think (a lot less) and had ridiculous stats for having no OL and a 5’3 #1 WR. Beat Manning in the playoffs and carried a team to the AFCCG in i believe his second year in the league?

It said not taking NFL career in to consideration. As a prospect.

Luck as called the best QB prospect since Manning for a reason. Because Manning was the guy.

Luck has a case because he had that athleticism as well.

Im not arguing against Luck at all. I know how highly regarded he was.

Way better arms than Brady. Plus he can deadlift 600, brah!

Namath. He tore up his knees at Alabama. Bear Bryant had his knees wrapped and he played when he should have been in a hospital bed.

He does look 50 there lol

But i actually hope he dropped some weight. He lost flexibility and speed last yr

Been saying for a while he is going to cost close to 40. They are going to have to trade him for a haul. They can't pay him that and pay Coop and Mitch.
