I really wonder WTF is going on with McKee. Seems like he just keeps sailing every pass over guys heads - people were open and he missed them. Thought he could be a solid #2, and maybe a low end starter/bridge QB elsewhere. Now I'm not sure he makes the 53. Lucky for him Dalton is washed.

The QB shouted out "Where did he go?"

Jurgens doesn't seem to be the question mark that Dickerson is right now.

They both are until proven otherwise.

I have a kinda counterintuitive thought about Stowers. He’s not a special athlete laterally. What tested as special was the straight line explosiveness. Normally with guys like him there’s a push-pull on how much weight to put on them because you’re worried about him losing something athletically.

With Stowers, I disagree. His size is clearly holding him back and it seems to be in his head too (that one run blocking rep where he seemed scared to take on the edge player). Seemed like he got crushed every time he got tackled. I’d love for him to show up to camp next year at 250-260 - I think that version of him might have a shot to be decent. And he’ll still be more explosive than the vast majority of players at the position.

Disclaimer: I hated the draft pick, thought he had bust written all over him.

For as often as people bring up Hurts and a new OC every year, imagine how hard it is on a 6th round draft pick like McKee. New OC every year, new QB coach every year for 4 years in a row. Maybe he's overhyped but the lack of consistency certainly isn't doing him any favors.

Can we just move on from Quez Watkins already?

Glad to see Lampkin played well in the preseason game and got the attention. With wrestling background, he would know leavage and how to control the opponent. His lower COG also gives him the advantage to lift and move the opponents. Lighter in weight/bulk could be a disadvantage against much heavier DTs. He is raising in the depth chart and hope he makes the roster.

Even against the heavier DTs I expect he will be fine … unless those DTs are able to get under his pads. The optimist in me believes that is something he is very aware of, and will diligently and proactively work to avoid. Since he will be deploying a low COG and getting underneath the defender’s pads in every snap regardless of how large/heavy the opposing defender is, I expect him to consistently win his battles.

As a former wrestler myself, I am totally biased. FWIW

Amen!

FWIW, I thought Dickerson looked slimmer than he has in recent years while he was casually standing on the sideline. Of course that could simply have been me seeing what I wanted to see.

Some random thoughts after watching, whatever the hell that was...

QB: I know it only cost a 7th and he cut his salary, but I have no clue why Dalton is here. $1.5mm guaranteed...why? If we wanted to add someone because McKee has regressed (and he has), then why not take a shot and flip a 7th to Indy for Richardson (if Indy eats the option bonus, he's only $1.145mm on the cap). At this point, if Jalen goes down, we are royally screwed. Also, WTF happened to McKee?

WR: I'm not going crazy over the depth guys not looking great - the QBs missed some open guys. Cooper's drop was disappointing after all the hype out of camp. But the top ~4 guys didn't play or barely played (Brown only played 7 snaps, same as Moore).

OL: Bell looked pretty good to me, and Lampkin is a player. Feeling better about the depth. Big Fred was disappointing.

DT: I want to believe Robinson is finally showing something, but then that roughing penalty was dumb. Uar was fun and didn't look completely out of place.

Edge: Epenesa is going to make the team. And Weru might have to be on the 53 to prevent poaching.

LB: Trotter is a solid 3rd ILB. I thought Mondon was OK, have read some people were down on him.

CB: McWilliams...that wasn't good. Ringo - I thought the PI was a weak call, and the INT was solid. Not sure any of the CBs who played will make the 53.

I could see that being an issue, and he obviously gets fewer reps. But then why bring in Dalton and make him split reps in the new system?

Pretty sure Watkins has dirt on Howie lol he knows something

Goedert, Mundt and Stowers are locks. If we keep 4, it will be Latu.

Calcaterra is PS at best.

I agree that if all are available, Calcaterra is the least useful. But Calcaterra is the second best receiver in the that group. He'd become TE1 if Goedert goes down.

Relative this time a year ago,

I feel better about RB2, WR3/4/5, the OL overall, DTs, Edge, and CB2.

I feel worse about QB2 and WR2.

Not sure about the tight end room and secondary depth yet.

I mirror that, and would add that I feel better about OC and CB2 and base Safeties and both interior LBs as well.

Practice is over already. Somehow the only tweet was a Jalen Hurts INT

I didn't know anyone was worried about RB2. Thought it was just the usage or lack thereof that everyone had a problem with

This time last year RB2 was a total question mark. It became a bit clearer only after September 9th.

So, here's where I am at after the 1st preseason "game."

QB: Dalton is likely the easiest to sneak to the PS. Maybe they try and sneak Payton there, but who the hell is going to claim Andy Dalton (and would we be mad if someone did)...

RB: Please don't waste a roster spot on RB4. Can get Pierce to PS.

WR: Wilson was my last cut. I think you can get him and Moore to PS. Brown has too much gteed money to cut.

TE: Kept Latu by not keeping a LS - assuming they put LS on the PS to start the season (and not sure it will be Underwood).

OL: Disappointing that Williams and Hinton don't get a 2nd year, but new OL system is an excuse to move on.

DT: Robinson is the 53rd guy to make it. Guessing Howie doesn't want to give up on a 4th rounder. Bernard is a stash.

Edge: Weru is stashed so no one claims him. Other 5 seem locked in.

LB: Vic seems to love Campbell so he makes it.

CB: Kept Ringo for special teams...didn't love it. McWilliams played himself out of a job yesterday feels like.

S: Wisnewski has been hurt, so he gets cut and Sam makes it. If they go with 3 safeties (since Coop is also a safety), McWilliams makes it

I need to see Manion the play caller before feeling confident.

Yeah, but I don't see anyone claiming him. Put him on PS and elevate if/when DG misses games.

I wonder if Dalton would want to be on the PS at his age. Might just decide to hang it up if it comes to that.

They still used Dillon as RB2 early in the year. Tank didn't get anything other than kickoffs until the middle of the season. Got 1 carry in against the Vikings, then 9 in the second Giants game.
