I don't think anyone can come to any reasonable summation or conclusion about the Eagles offense based on just yesterday's game. There were no clear tendencies or patterns. The Commies showed up to play on D and were well prepared. As an Eagle fan, I know how tough divisional games can be especially when the opposing team has had months to prepare. They brought a full pressure package while the Eagles and Mannion were still feeling things out. I expected that the Eagles would be "building the airplane as they flew it."

The good news is the Commies were able to expose some weaknesses and the Eagles now have good film to start working on counters and adjustments. The Eagles got the win and had no major injuries so I consider it a good experience.

2024 OL is Peak OL as was Barkley. So that aint happening again. Shouldn't even expect that. Take Dickerson out and this OL will be functional. He was that bad! Jurgens I feel still has some athleticism left and will be serviceable. Looks like got better as game went along. But being that the 2 play side by side, it amplifies the problem. If Kendall is solid as in PS, they should be okay.

Im confident that Wicks will continue the WR2 production- actually I expect WR1 production from him. Provided, he is thrown to for more than 1.5 quarters each game. This goes in to your #1 and #3. How the hell did Wicks have 77 yards and a TD in less than 2 quarters and then never receive another target all game? Thats not an OC thing, and its not a Wicks thing....

It is good to see you know how to post a HE thing.

Imagine playing the Bears like this

yes, and Hunt did an awesome job containing the opposite edge. It looked like a potential read option on the left side (Hunt's right) He jumped out there so quickly he cut off Daniels' running room, but was also perfectly in the passing lane to the guy in the flat that people say we forgot to cover. At the time Daniels had him as an option, he was covered. hunt forced him to progress to the shovel pass option which obviously was stopped by great plays from Carter and Ojomo.

lol...blah blah blah....the play was that was called a TE shovel pass. It was not an RPO. It was designed to be a quick hitter based on where the TE lined up. The QB may have been instructed to look off a safety at the start, but that was not a designed play with progressions. The DL was prepared and blew it up.

Epic hate watch week 1:

  • Patriots lose and Maye looks like ass against a real team again

  • Rams smoked in Australia

  • Justin Herbert exposed...AGAIN

  • And LOL Dallas

And 2 new major acquisitions (AJ & MG) crash and burn as predicted here. Both to me are officially out of their prime as of now. Age and injuries, a bad combination. Wait and watch.

I'd also add that the OL age/injury situation may have played a major role in Stoutland leaving. Many tried to blame Siri or the FO and interpersonal issues with regards to running the offense. He may have known this group was breaking down and didn't feel the need to damage his brand.

On defense...Encouraging: they might have been facing a sneaky good offense and the D mostly looked like what we have come to expect from them.

The sneaky good offense was in very large part due to the elusiveness of Daniels. He bailed them out of very difficult situations several times. Plus, his ability to scramble caused Fangio to largely take Campbell away from pass coverage responsibilities and have him spy on Daniels in order to minimize the damage his elusiveness causes.

Justin Herbert exposed...AGAIN

I don’t know if it’s just because no one cares about the Chargers in the grand scheme of things, but Herbert just skating through these awful performances with little to no criticism is just insane. What would the national media take be on Hurts losing as a 10 point favorite against what is supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league this year?

Here’s a question for you. Does the fact that Wicks was unused from the middle of the Second Quarter onward say something about him?

My hunch is that it says something about him.

But the reality is that it's to be determined. Is he a good WR2 who should have more uniform targets and a combination of Mannion, Hurts, and pass protection denied him that opportunity? Or is he a bad WR who broke a long one on a fluke-ish play because the coverages were rolled to Smith?...and he was unused because he should be unused.

We'll find out in the coming weeks.

Ok, is Tank a liability in pass blocking or was he dinged up some? Those are the only excuses I could see for him riding the bench as much as he did. Other things: We didn't see a single wheel route or many throws to the RBs, but then again our OL was so horrible, maybe there was some and we just couldn't tell because they had to go off script. Or maybe the game plan didn't call for it for some reason for this game. Just seems like some quick hitters to the RBs as an outlet would slow down the pass rush some against blitz happy teams. I'd rather see more RB screens and less WR screens. Seemed like they had Dejean covering closer to the line than last year. I seem to remember him being more cloud and allowing him to diagnose and cover areas more than getting up to the line and being on the type of receiver that gives him issues.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but I do think he didn’t want to run anything but his OL blocking scheme.

It’s an overrated OL

Mailata is good but not great

Dickerson is bad now

Jurgens is average

Steen is average

Lane is still good but he has dropped off from his peak

You didn't hear Hurts talk about the idiot last year like this

Eye test on the 2 catches, says to expect more out of Wicks as long a he's targeted. Twitchy and creates enough separation. Just as advertised. Can't see AJ making either play, as he doesn't separate and can't juke you. His knees would fall off.

Barkley is not a good receiver.

Speculation from me: Mannion likes to get his RBs going in the passing game in the way they were utilizing Lemon. Shipley may be more suited for that than Tank (or Barkley). I'm wondering if that's why he's seeing the field more than expected.

Lane is dropped off but still excellent. BUT the RT position is only as good as the guy playing in December and I have a hard time anticipating better than Fred Johnson.

The majority of these looked like Landon wasn't sure whom to block. I think there were only two where he was beaten 1v1 in pass pro. Not good and needs to improve.

And in those clips of Dickerson, it's more than he looks injured, he looks like he's thinking a lot about who to block and getting paralyzed by it. When in doubt just get someone....but he looked lost and like he didn't want to engage a lot of the time, just letting guys go by and then like he was realizing it was happening and then reaching at the last minute. Need him to initiate contact and force the issue, be decisive, even if it's "wrong"...like others have said, just unplayable.

Regardless, don't think Dickerson is a scheme fit for the OZ in the 1st place and will handicap their potential. Need more lateral mobility and athleticism, which Kendall can offer.

You are absolutely right! My bad.

My prediction was right too. I said two Goedert TDs. I just badly misspelled his name as Smitty.

I believe it is a reasonable conclusion that the interior of the offensive line remains a huge issue and liability for the Eagles.

To your entire oline point

Plus Jurgens was called for two early Holding penalties that killed drives.

Week 1 is always weird, and division games are always tough, so a win is a win. And there were plenty of things to like. But plenty to be concerned about as well, and it's time to say thanks and best of luck to one of our favorites.

Offense

  • Overall, the boom or bust nature of the offense simply won't work over the long term. Winning a game, and outgaining the opponent, when we only had 10 first downs and forced zero turnovers...that can't have happened too often in history. But looking at the drives that failed:

    • second drive of game, set back by Jurgens hold and then the 5 yard loss on dumb screen to Lemon

    • 1st drive of 2nd half, -1 yard run and -3 on play to Lemon (theme here)

    • Next 2 drives, sacks and negative runs

  • Let's just deal with it now - Landon Dickerson almost personally lost us this game. He is just unplayable, and we need to stop fooling ourselves. He was a warrior in 2024, but he wrecked his body and it's over. With no guaranteed money left after this year, you make him a post June 1 cut (hopefully he retires) and spread the $23.6mm in dead money out over 2 years (save $9mm in 2027, take $15.3mm in 2028). Kendall is a much better option. This is a test for Nick - will he do what needs to be done.

    • I thought, other than the 2 flags, Cam was better than last year and would have looked better if the guy to his left wasn't a turnstile. I'd give him more time

  • Sorry @HazletonEagle, but Hurts basically single handedly won us this game on offense. The 3rd and 18 conversion saved the game, and he looked quicker overall. The 1st 2 TD throws were both high level - perfect placement to Goedert, and stood tall against a free rusher (thanks Landon) to hit Wicks. Reminded me of the game against Dallas last opening day when he basically willed the team to a win. To put up a 122 rating and 3 TDs with that OL debacle was unreal. And hopefully he'll get more comfortable going forward. Hurts was the biggest positive on offense by far.

  • Hard to judge Barkley when they simply couldn't block. But on the few occasions where he had room, he looked decent. On one early run he basically ran into Smitty and tackled himself...

    • Also, we need to see more Tank

  • Smith and Wicks did their jobs, and Goedert...thank God no one wanted to pay him this offseason. The manufactured touches for Lemon are too obvious. Again, Landon being a turnstile makes it hard to know what could have been if Hurts had more time.

Defense/Special Teams

  • I "think" the defensive line played well despite the lack of sacks - Daniels was under constant pressure and only completed ~50% if his passes. But...they clearly got gassed in the 4th quarter. Part of that is week 1, it was hot, and Washington dominated TOP. Want to see the snap count analysis, but felt like JC barely came off the field (he was very disruptive). Thought Carter, Davis, Ojomo and Nolan played well, Hunt was a little disappointing given all the TC hype.

  • Baun is just absurd. We may need to find a way to keep him after this year.

  • Campbell had a bad mistake on a 3rd and long conversion. Otherwise, I thought he looked solid.

  • Q and Riq completely shut down the outside receivers. McLaurin was a non factor all game.

  • Coop...I think he may have hurt himself early in the game. But, this was a lot like when he played Thielen - shifty vet gives him the business. Diggs was eating him alive. Hopefully it was just a bad week.

  • Felt like our kickoff coverage kind of sucked

Again, a win is a win. And I hate to just make it about one player but...Landon Dickerson is done.

The concept of more explosives and fewer turnovers is essential Sirianni.

The DL needs to convert more pressures into sacks. Daniels was able to extend drives with a few scrambles, but mostly from avoiding the negative plays.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but our safeties played just fine. It would be awesome if Mukuba and Epps avoid becoming vulnerabilities.

The second was on an outside zone where, from the one quick replay, looked like his defender fell while engaged. Refs will often see that as a take down and throw a flag.

I agree, but that also makes less sense for a guy that is an all-pro and 3x pro bowler. Knees being shot and immobile makes sense. New offense, new scheme...sure....but with all due respect to @just relax , there is a pretty strong common language with OL play and some of the paralysis there...I have to blame more of it on physical immobility/discomfort/failure than pure mental paralysis/uncertainty.
