Woah there. You're arguing points to me I've been also making for a long time about growing pains with the new offense.

I'm not saying bench Dickerson now, but I'm saying his performance is different than rust and lack of preseason. Going back to last year his health was an issue. In the offseason there was talk of him retiring! He reworked his contract. This isn't giving up on a player too early because of production or growth. This is a continuation of his health problems. He had a lengthy injury history coming out of college when he was drafted, it was always a concern.

If any player is unable to play because of injury and they are a liability, then the coaches need to bench them. Dickerson is a talented player, smart and it's not his talent. For example Cooper DeJean had a bad game but we know that's unusual and he'll be fine.

And when a player is injured and can't perform, it's next man up. It's not fans job to get quality backups, that's Howie and the coaches. If Dickerson's issues aren't health and he just needed to adjust, great. But his injury problems and health have been an ongoing concern for a while now. If the backups aren't ready to go and haven't had enough experience, that's on the team for not preparing better. Last year both Jurgens and Dickerson were struggling and then later it came out how they basically toughed it out for the Super Bowl. Having to go to get experimental treatments in Costa Rica or whatever they did. The team knows that stuff. It's not like a surprise or shock. They needed to prepare better. If they think Kendall is a solid backup and can start if needed for injury, great. They should know.

I certainly hope Dickerson can recover, he's been great. But if he simply can't play because of injury then like any player he needs to sit and rest and recover. He thought about retirement, and this is likely his last season unless something changes.

Seth Joyner basically said he looks like he’s carrying too much weight. Maybe getting slimmer will help. To me it looks like his movement, flexibility and bend is just not there.

I’ve had both my hips replaced, and thankfully I can walk and jog and move mostly normally for a middle aged man. But it’s just more rigid. He looks like someone to me that has that rigidness that comes with getting older, or having some significantly health issues that can improve but will never come back.

most of the blogs problem you guys think these backups are just gonna go in there and automatically play well. Problem solved. First usually backups for a reason cause either not ready yet or then are not good enough to start consistently. Usually the case. Like was the case with seumalo when he was a backup. Vaitai looked well then he didn’t at times as a rookie with little experience. Brooks left that saints game in the playoff our backup couldn’t do the job. Everyone wants to back up in there because it was said in training, camp and preseason that they were really good. Then reality is they aren’t nearly as good because there’s a reason for it. Growing pains or simply not good enough as a starter consistently.

Secondly they also are learning an entirely new scheme from what they originally worked taught. So there’s going to be growing pains with them too. I guarantee (not you) but other people on here would be like oh they suck too after one week if they didn’t play well. Then blame howie for not doing more and say we are doomed.

Let me just point out not only did people on here question Johnson was going to be able to have a longer career and declining here after 2020 cause he wasn’t healthy. That they should move on. and yet he’s here six years later. said Smith was not gonna re-sign here because he got zero receptions at the start of 2022 (week 1). tried to run Jason Kelce out of town back in 2016 saying that he was not good because he wasn’t strong or big enough. I also remember seumalo was a wasted pick because he couldn’t beat out wiz in 2017 and was eh in 2018. Then was a starter on a SB team.

So instead of we need to pitchfork out right now after 1 week, we evaluate what he looks like after a couple of games. he’s not what he was athletically anymore, but once he starts getting the scheme down like a second nature, he might start playing better. We don’t know if his mind is swimming about what he needs to do on top of not having the athleticism anymore. I don’t think people understand changing everything he had been taught up until that point to do now this new blocking scheme and not doing it in an actual game until yesterday. He could very well get the offense down and the blocking scheme down, and start looking better even though he’s not ever going to be 2024 Landon Dickerson. He very well could be just done. However, I’m not making definitive statements after one Fing week of football. Especially because I saw the Saints yesterday have an entire offensive line look atrocious in the same offense they ran last year with guys who knew it. It’s week 1. Let’s give it a couple weeks

Dickerson is listed at 333 pounds. what do yall think he should weigh ?

He's probably more than that. But who knows? For this offense, I'd say 315 sounds right.

Have you ever played left guard? Are you free this Sunday? P

In fairness, no one ever questioned Lane’s ability or quality of play.

To chronicle the questions of his career:

  1. Had not played OL for long when drafted.

  2. Could he play LT? Why wasn’t he playing LT once Peter’s sucked?

  3. Roids

  4. Can’t stay healthy.

He’s had a HOF level career and helped them win 2 SBs….including one after he was left for dead with injuries.

But he has missed a LOT of time since the point he was really questioned on that foot and his injuries.

This has you very upset for some reason. You're arguing points that I also made so I don't know what's going on. No one says they will automatically play well, and obviously if the starters have to learn the new offense with growing pains even moreso for backups. People are just arguing health. And that if he doesn't get better something has to be done.

What do you do if by week 6 he continues like this and it's obvious he's not healthy?

Oh yes, they definitely did after 2020. I know cause I got into that conversation. There was definitely a question. His body was breaking down and whether or not he could play it an elite level anymore because he couldn’t stay healthy anymore and he had not been as good as previous seasons prior to the injury. That conversation very much happened.

This OZ is going to ask LD to laterally move from sideline to sideline. I just don't see it in the running game and in pass protection with any of these twitchy DTs with agility and quick moves. He can't recover fast enough with his feet. It's horrid. He's moving in slow motion.

It's a delicate situation with Dickerson. He's been a warrior, and he's well liked by teammates. Maybe it's the new scheme and thinking, but the physical decline is pretty glaring. Maybe you can pitch him on the idea of an IR stint to try and get right, study more. I'd be surprised if they flat out benched him, as opposed to a fugazi IR trip.

It is weird that a minor knee injury derailed him that much. It wasn't like he Willis McGahee'd his knee. But he had previous injuries there so maybe they all added up and his body just failed at some point. But he clearly can't move. It's not a strength issue, he can't stay in front of defenders they just blow right past him. Might as well have his shoelaces tied together.

I wouldn’t even wait to week six. I would wait until you get to that Rams game. Gives me more than a 1 week sample size. I need multiple games cause i need to know if he improves as he gets the blocking scheme down better and if that’s slowing him down even more not being fluent in it or if it’s just completely his athleticism.

Again, Dickerson was the worse player on that offensive line. But they all didn’t play well. I don’t think Tyler Steen or Jurgens played very well either. Lane Johnson definitely didn’t play up to the level that we’ve become accustomed to yesterday either when you go and watch some itn he was probably the best but that wasn’t his best. the entire offensive line including Dickerson was not good yesterday. Do I think that’s a coincidence overall they didn’t play well? No it’s because they’re learning a new scheme and it was gonna take time and we continue to not give guys reps in the preseason. so it’s basically throwing them into the fire after 9 months of no football besides practice which isn’t remotely close to an actual game. We are actually fortunate Lane Johnson and Mailata when they aren’t at their best, is still better than the majority of the nfl. That they cannot play for nine months and still be at a league average or above level. Because most guys when you don’t play for 9 months and then you just thrusted back in there, you probably aren’t gonna look very good until you get yourself back into a rhythm.

I’d also point out the offenses that look the best in week one were mainly teams that had continuity and not running a new scheme. The only ones I thought looked super impressive with an entirely new scheme were the ravens (offense wasn’t nearly as great after flowers got hurt). And the giants. To their credit, they ball controlled and they took advantage of a really bad Dallas defense.

I like Dickerson too he will always be a hero but it’s time if it’s going to be anywhere near yesterday going forward.

Completely agree with the first part, but I just don’t know what he’s going to get out of an IR stint. He just had nearly 40 weeks off (and yes I’m Including camp and preseason).

4-8 more weeks on IR arent getting him anywhere.

I don't think anyone said to bench him now unless I missed that. But expressing concern that they may need to bench him if it continues. The whole line had issues, yes. Dickerson is extra concerning because of injury problems.
