Imagine playing the Bears like this

I watched the Houston - Buffalo game before the Eagles. If either the Eagles or Commanders had to play either Houston or Buffalo, it would have been a sad story. Eagles Commanders looked like Preseason game 4. Houston - Buffalo looked like good teams mid season.

All you can go by is by the profile of these interior backups. They all seem athletic with good lateral mobility. And should be a good fit to play this scheme. They will have their growing pains. But LD is unplayable. He was unplayable by Superbowl 2024. Been a year and a half of bad play. And he just breaks down. He would limp out of games even in his prime. You could see this coming. He's absolutely cooked.

Let me just say this they are not gonna bench him after one week. Especially because it’s an entirely new blocking and entirely new offense so they knew there was gonna be growing pains. I don’t disagree with you. I think he’s done but that’s not the way they’re gonna go about it. Because they need to see if this is actually him just being done physically or if this is a scheme related problem because if he improves next week and then improves the next week. Then he’s showing he’s getting better each week then they’re not gonna do it at all.

I remember a time on this board, on this very blog that people said lane Johnson was done. That they should get rid of him because he was injury prone, can’t stay healthy and he wasnt able to play at the level anymore as his body deteriorated. And now we are 6 years removed from that and he’s still here and the best offensive lineman we have

Or when people said that Smitty wouldn't sign to stay here after he went without a catch Week 1 in 2022.

I think if he shows no improvement against the Titans, then he's in big trouble. Let's see. I'm rooting for him. Just want him to be playable. I think the other thing is we have to plan for the future there. This is likely his last year here. Rather get the ball rolling on that sooner than later, to figure it all out. This offseason presents other issues with RT and RG.

I don’t give a crap what happened last year. That was an entirely different offense and blocking scheme. It does not matter. They were hurt last year. We knew that. Their struggles today it may be health related or decline, but I don’t know yet because it is week one.

I don’t think you guys understand how hard it is to go from not playing a game since beginning of January last year. The team implementing an entirely new offense. The team getting rid of its offensive line coach. The team implementing a whole new barking scheme for those guys. And then acting like there’s not gonna be growing pains. What reality do you guys live in? I made the point the bears had the similar issues at the Eagles did. Very similar issues.

as to backups, neither one of those guys has high level of NFL snaps. Specifically in this offense or blocking scheme. So I’m guessing they’re gonna go out there and they’re not gonna be up to the standard either. We are just assuming they’re not gonna have growing pains? That’s laughable. Because if they were so good that when they benched guys for that commanders game at the end of last year, they should’ve looked better and they really didn’t for large portions of the game.

So I find it really far-fetched that everybody on here seems to think that these backups are not gonna have growing pains and have their own struggles.

New scheme/coaches/being week 1 has nothing to do with your ability to move. If anything after a healthy offseason you should be moving at your best now. I think your point is valid for the majority of the line and offense as a whole, which to me is encouraging. But Dickerson looks like a third stringer and it’s exclusively his movement that’s the problem. I can’t see that improving.

TE is a position with two very different responsibilities.

I don’t care how good a TE is as a receiver…unless they are so good they do it as well as a starting WR…if they can’t block their presence telegraphs and makes things easier on the defense.

The inverse is true. I don’t care how well a TE blocks. Unless they are so good at it that it’s like having another OT on the field…if they aren’t even a remote threat to catch the football their presence makes life easier on the defense.

One dimensional TEs are liabilities. You can be a one dimensional WR. Not at TE.

Lurie is really desperate.

Let me say this I don’t disagree with you guys said he might be done physically. But the way to figure out if it’s actually him or the scheme that’s giving him problems. He could be overthinking it and with his current limitations makes it a bigger issue.

The scheme overthinking is also affected by the fact, he doesn’t have the athleticism that he used to. So it’s a double whammy. When it becomes second nature, it might be easier for him and he gets better.

He’s likely never 2024 Landon Dickerson. Those days are over. But that doesn’t mean as he gets more comfortable with the offense and more comfortable on the blocking scheme that he can’t be better and competent. You guys seem to think having played in one scheme and one blocking style scheme for his entire career in the NFL is easy to just jump to a new one, especially if you don’t have the same athleticism you had two years ago. I’m not saying he’s ever gonna be in 2024 Dickerson again. What I’m saying to you is when he gets more comfortable in the scheme and the blocking scheme, he might actually start looking better as he’s more confident in himself. Now he might just be done. I don’t know that based on one Fing week.

Then I’m gonna add into this, he has not played a game since they be beginning of January. I watched a lot of NFL yesterday. Bunch of bad oline play. Giants surprising might have been the best (albeit bad cowboys defenses. the Saints offensive line in the same scheme for 3 quarters look like they never played football in their lives.

I’d hope he improves. That said not an easy matchup for the IOL. It’s tough because they actually have Jeffrey Simmons who is great when healthy. Their interior DL is not remotely as bad as the rest of that team. IOL better be prepared

That’s fair. I’m just more pessimistic with him. Perhaps I was expecting more of a movement towards the mean, not what we had but something serviceable which it wasn’t. But if he can better anticipate where to be, maybe that makes a difference. I hope that winds up being the situation. He’s been a really good player for us.

If we were in week four, and this was still going on with the interior starting offensive line, I’d be with people on benching people. Last year they weren’t good cause they weren’t healthy. It was pretty obvious that neither Jurgens or Dickerson were remotely close to healthy. This year they haven’t played since January last season in an actual game. On top of that learning an entirely new blocking scheme and offensive scheme. then you sent them out there a week one with no preseason. The bears had a better offensive line at the end of the year than they did at the beginning of the year when they were implementing. Even thuney didn’t look like he did in KC early in the season for the Bears. Heck people questioned the trade. As the season went on, he got better. I think people need to resolve some patience and time to see what they are.

Can I also say it’s absurd to me that people are using the preseason and training camp to justify that Kendall and Lampkin are just gonna automatically be good. They went against backups for the most part in the preseason (and it isn’t the same as a game in practices). And guys who are likely not even in the league anymore in part of those preseason games. If you think you’re gonna just throw them out there and they’re not gonna have growing pains cause they haven’t played a lot then I don’t know what you think. Because they’re likely going to have problems with them too because they haven’t played a lot of snaps at the NFL level and there’s a learning curve. you’re gonna have growing pains with them too. That’s the likely reality.

I can’t believe I’m the one that has to tell people to be patient. It’s week one with guys learning an entirely new blocking scheme and scheme in general while not playing in a real game besides some controlled practices in 9 months. Give it some time.

Isn't that more on the side of actually playing starters in preseason?

is becton completely cooked? he’s only 27 & still a FA after getting cut by the chargers.

He's more of a mauler IMO vs someone who would do well in a zone. I've wanted him back, but after watching the OL yesterday I'm not sure he'd fit. I'm not sure the people they have are a good fit either, which makes me wonder what Howie was thinking all offseason. Counting on the kid who looked good vs backups isn't a sure thing either. Wish he brought in/drafted more guards.

If Lemon gets the TD instead of Goedert, it's an entirely different convo. Lemon was more open than Goedert too, but Jalen made the correct read in his progression.

It's not about whether they will struggle it's about whether they will play better than the guys they're replacing. And the Dickerson should be no surprise to anyone who followed camp coverage. I posted about it in here numerous times that every camp update I heard was pretty much every Eagles reporter talking about how Dickerson looks rough and looks like he can't move. And we're seeing it carry into the season now.

lol...the play was clearly a TE shovel pass.. there were no other options...yep...I used the wrong terminology....you were wrong no matter how you want to deflect...I am able to take responsibility and own my actions and words and admit when I am wrong....so definitely not a narcissist ...but have it...

Exactly what I expected. Deny, deflect, and lie.

Quiet now. Let the grown ups talk.

What are the chances that we give that rookie Morris a look at LG ?

I would say that’s part of it. I think the other part of it is they’ve had times even not early in the season where they’ve just struggle to get off the field when they need to. i’ll go back to 2024, they probably should’ve lost that Panthers game at the guy didn’t drop the ball. The ravens game they were up by double digits and got down to an onside kick because they couldn’t get themselves off the field and allowed the ravens in like a minute to just march down the field for a touchdown. That last year, the Broncos in the fourth quarter just marched all the way down the field and won that game against the Eagles.

I get it they’ve also games or they’ve come up big. But it’s been more inconsistent to what they are usually throughout the game. Personally, I think the real reason that how we brought in Greenard and last deadline Phillips was because he knew he needed another guy that could make a big sack in a big moment to get them off the field in a position like that. Imo the Broncos game to me stuck out. The offense stunk that was part of it. But the defense could not get that play when they really needed it. I think howie realize that and realized I need another impact pass rusher that can make it happen more often

Sorry. Didn't realize it was that bad. Can legitimately argue that he should sit. Titans have Simmons who is a handful.

Because if they were so good that when they benched guys for that commanders game at the end of last year, they should’ve looked better and they really didn’t for large portions of the game. But because they did well in the preseason and practicing against backup players and guys who no longer in the NFL that means they’re obviously gonna be good. And they’re just gonna hit the ground running in our offensive lines gonna look great. I hate to break it to some of you theirs is highly likely gonna be growing pains with them too and it’s gonna be clunky for a bit because it’s gonna take some time.

So I find it really far-fetched that everybody on here seems to think that these backups are not gonna have growing pains and have their own struggles. It’s going to take time. Whether it’s Dickerson or Jurgens or Lampkin or anybody, you wanna throw out there.

Let me also say Lane Johnson didn’t play like lane Johnson if yester years yesterday either. If you go back and watch that game, he wasn’t nearly as dominant. It’s likely because he’s learning a new scheme and it’s going to take time for him to get comfortable with it. That’s called growing pains. Now Dickerson and Jurgens might just be done physically. That might be the case. However, I’m not gonna make a definitive of all that because of last year and week one where they’re implementing an entire new offense and they haven’t played a real game since Fing January that they struggled mightily and didn’t look good. Especially when pretty much the entire ofrendife line including lane and steen didn’t exactly hit out of the park either

Woah there. You're arguing points to me I've been also making for a long time about growing pains with the new offense.

I'm not saying bench Dickerson now, but I'm saying his performance is different than rust and lack of preseason. Going back to last year his health was an issue. In the offseason there was talk of him retiring! He reworked his contract. This isn't giving up on a player too early because of production or growth. This is a continuation of his health problems. He had a lengthy injury history coming out of college when he was drafted, it was always a concern.

If any player is unable to play because of injury and they are a liability, then the coaches need to bench them. Dickerson is a talented player, smart and it's not his talent. For example Cooper DeJean had a bad game but we know that's unusual and he'll be fine.

And when a player is injured and can't perform, it's next man up. It's not fans job to get quality backups, that's Howie and the coaches. If Dickerson's issues aren't health and he just needed to adjust, great. But his injury problems and health have been an ongoing concern for a while now. If the backups aren't ready to go and haven't had enough experience, that's on the team for not preparing better. Last year both Jurgens and Dickerson were struggling and then later it came out how they basically toughed it out for the Super Bowl. Having to go to get experimental treatments in Costa Rica or whatever they did. The team knows that stuff. It's not like a surprise or shock. They needed to prepare better. If they think Kendall is a solid backup and can start if needed for injury, great. They should know.

I certainly hope Dickerson can recover, he's been great. But if he simply can't play because of injury then like any player he needs to sit and rest and recover. He thought about retirement, and this is likely his last season unless something changes.

When I heard Dickerson say he only lost weight when he went to the bathroom, I knew he wasn't serious for this year. Should have went on the JD program and dedicated himself. Take the GLP 1 pill, don't care. This guy needs to shed weight, so he can move better and put less weight on his knees.

It's a delicate situation with Dickerson. He's been a warrior, and he's well liked by teammates. Maybe it's the new scheme and thinking, but the physical decline is pretty glaring. Maybe you can pitch him on the idea of an IR stint to try and get right, study more. I'd be surprised if they flat out benched him, as opposed to a fugazi IR trip.

Dickerson is listed at 333 pounds. what do yall think he should weigh ?
