I don't think anyone said to bench him now unless I missed that. But expressing concern that they may need to bench him if it continues. The whole line had issues, yes. Dickerson is extra concerning because of injury problems.

I watched a lot of football yesterday. There was a lot of bad offensive line play yesterday. The teams that tended to look the best the bears, bengals, jags, bills and niners all were using the same scheme. They have continuity in that scheme. Now the two teams that I thought looked amazing for being using a new scheme were the Giants. Frankly think that’s because the Dallas defense still sucks and they ball controlled the hell out of them to keep Dak off the field. And the ravens. With the ravens they looked real good until Zay flowers got hurt. After that point they really weren’t the same. I gave them credit cause they looked phenomenal before that though.

You’d say the Lions and the Saints putting up 30 each the offense look good. No the Saints offense was atrocious until the fourth quarter. And the Lions offense wasn’t all that much better through the first half of that game. And frankly they should’ve given up a defensive touchdown if not for a stupid ass NFL rule.

We need him to lower his contract value LOL with Q getting zillions.

Baun was an absolute beast yesterday. Given the contract situations, the expectation has been he won't get another one here. They will replace him with Campbell and Trotter as new starters.

He may make a strong case this year to be one of the guys who does get retained. If possible financially.

3 requests going forward with this offense because the defense should be fine especially when Greenard comes back.

1) Integrate Brown/Moore in this offense. Particularly in the slot. Lemon should be brought along slowly. Did him a disservice throwing him to the wolves this quickly. And after repeated hammy issues.

2) More Tank, less Shipley. Oy!! How many times are we gonna ask for this wrinkle?

3) Sign Ertz. Goedert looks like prime Goedert still. Yes. He's underpaid and underrated. Will give them options with versatile looks, gives Goedert some snaps off, and becomes a major insurance policy if/when he goes down.

4) Howie needs another safety in here. Epps left the game with a shoulder injury. One safety short there. MC is nice to back up the Makuba role. Epps should be a 3rd/4th safety. It's clear as day. Need a starter type. Maybe by the trade deadline..

1 hour ago, just relax said:

Just for the sake of argument, I'm going to disagree on all counts.

1.) Lemon got live reps in a real game. Those are invaluable, both for him and for Mannion. If he's healthy and the coaches have plans for him, he needs to play.

2.) I agree with this in theory but Shipley did good work in blitz pickup and he is a much better receiver than Tank. Two out of three? Well...

3.) The stretch plays we ran in this game did little and the culprit on most of them was the TE block. When it worked, it went to Mundt's side. Ertz, well, a blocker he isn't.

In this j vs. j debate

1) I fall in the middle, but closer to just relax. Where I agree with jojo is the integration of Brown/Moore into the offense. Spreading the ball around has two plusses IMO. (A) it makes it hard on the opposing Defenses, and (B) the process of using all the receivers will be very good for Hurts development ... and acclimation into Mannion's Offensive scheme.

2) Here I fully agree with just relax. It is not that Tank is necessarily bad at blitz pickup and/or receiving, but it is more that Shipley is quite good at them.

3) Here too I agree with just relax, especially if Brown/Moore are indeed integrated more into the Offense. That means you are going with a minimum of 3 WRs. With Goedert healthy, where would Ertz get any snaps ... or if you do go with 2 TEs , DG am]nd Ertz, how do you accomplish the Brown/Moore integration?

Honestly for Game 1 (preseason extended), I'm gonna lean into the positiven, with Hurts looking in control and back to being a threat to run and extend drives and being accurate with the deep ball. Those are his strengths and they looked sharp. Went down the middle as well pretty comfortably. And Wicks/Goedert/Smith being playmakers as expected. Like Hurts stated, they laid down a brick. EOD, scored 24 points, higher than last year's average. All with chaos on the OL. For me, this resembles Fangio's installation in year where there is something totally foreign being learned and we take small steps and are good to go by the latter half of the year. This offense will be better than last year's. That I'm convinced of.

I get guys play better under certain schemes and coaches but it’s insane to me how the Saints just had him on special teams. That will go down as one of Howie’s best free agent signings ever.

LMAO. Good one.

Baun was spectacular yesterday.

The game went pretty much how I thought it would. Love a W, especially at home, against a Division opponent. As an Eagles fan, we’re accustomed to a lot of nail biters. 🦅🦅

In fairness in 2025 when the Bears were implementing their new offense, they kinda did look like this for the first couple weeks. They scored 24 and 21 points. But they had drives that look good or Williams kept them alive with his legs. they had a lot of drives that were really poor that resulted in punts or not a lot of movement. It doesn’t help the Eagles that they didn’t play these guys in preseason. In a new offense, that is completely different than what you’ve run in the past for everyone including offensive lineman it is big ask for them to look great and consistent in week one. If we look like this and it is week seven, then I start having issues as it should be becoming second nature to them.

Frankly, people are gonna disagree, the defense not being able to get off the field in the fourth quarter in crunch time worries me more. Obviously some of it is fatigue and first game as well. But this isn’t the first time we faced the commanders were Jaylen Daniels is extending plays, keeping them on the field and scoring touchdowns in the fourth quarter. in 3 regular season games Jaylen Daniels has played against the eagles, the commanders have scored 43 points in the 4th quarter, which is 14.3 points on avg. say take out that one game in 2024 they scored 22 with hurts out.. Fine take it out, the other two games they’re still averaging 10.5 points against you in the 4th quarter. Again some of this is the offense has to be better so that they’re not fatigue. But some of this also has to be you need to get off the field and make a play in a critical time. Let’s not forget they kinda did stuff like this early in 2024 and 2025. That 2024 Falcons game they could’ve won the game making a play to get off the field and they couldn’t. Chiefs game last year was 20-10 and in 1:24 they went got a TD and thankfully we recovered the onside and got a first. Rams game from last year, they got the lead 27-26 and then the Eagles allowed them to go down the field to get into field goal range to Kick a 44 yard fg. They got saved because special teams made a massive play.

One argument is that the defense was gassed because the offense couldn't maintain possession of the ball.

@vikas83

I’m under the impression that there is some slight but material benefit to Dickerson retiring in the offseason versus being cut (both with a post June 1 designation to dilute the hit).

Is that accurate?

24 minutes ago, e-a-g-l-e-s eagles! said:

I wouldn’t even wait to week six. I would wait until you get to that Rams game. Gives me more than a 1 week sample size. I need multiple games cause i need to know if he improves as he gets the blocking scheme down better and if that’s slowing him down even more not being fluent in it or if it’s just completely his athleticism.

Again, Dickerson was the worse player on that offensive line. But they all didn’t play well. I don’t think Tyler Steen or Jurgens played very well either. Lane Johnson definitely didn’t play up to the level that we’ve become accustomed to yesterday either when you go and watch some itn he was probably the best but that wasn’t his best. the entire offensive line including Dickerson was not good yesterday. Do I think that’s a coincidence overall they didn’t play well? No it’s because they’re learning a new scheme and it was gonna take time and we continue to not give guys reps in the preseason. so it’s basically throwing them into the fire after 9 months of no football besides practice which isn’t remotely close to an actual game. We are actually fortunate Lane Johnson and Mailata when they aren’t at their best, is still better than the majority of the nfl. That they cannot play for nine months and still be at a league average or above level. Because most guys when you don’t play for 9 months and then you just thrusted back in there, you probably aren’t gonna look very good until you get yourself back into a rhythm.

I’d also point out the offenses that look the best in week one were mainly teams that had continuity and not running a new scheme. The only ones I thought looked super impressive with an entirely new scheme were the ravens (offense wasn’t nearly as great after flowers got hurt). And the giants. To their credit, they ball controlled and they took advantage of a really bad Dallas defense.

Speaking of Steen is he injured? He looked shaken after a play yesterday but stayed in

In Cooper’s defense, Diggs is a really good, technically strong, route runner. He can’t really beat a DB with speed anymore, but man, can he still get a DB to turn their hips the wrong way.

Thank gosh he likes to jump up on a Goal Post, IDIOT. 😊

2) Tank is a fierce runner and brings that juice and physicality. For 5-10 snaps, I will put up with the weaknesses mentioned. Think he can wear down teams in 2nd half especially.

I agree with you on Tank's attributes. However, the specific context of yesterday's game was that the O-Line play was really poor, so Tank's attributes would have largely been squandered. The Eagles had 136 yards rushing on 25 carries, but when you take out Saquon's 42 yarder and Hurts' 22 yard scramble, you are left with 23 carries yielding 72 yards ... just over 3 yards per carry. Would Tank's fierceness have changed that?

is becton completely cooked? he’s only 27 & still a FA after getting cut by the chargers.

Becton was never a dancing bear when he was in shape. Would he be a good fit for Mannion's scheme both in nimbleness and condition?

I'd like to find out. He's been underutilized here thus far and when in games has performed well. Add to that, they were fawning on him in training camp. They gotta do better than yesterday with his utilization in this offense. Wasting talent there...

I thought the offense as a whole was OK. I don’t think it was horrific. I don’t think it was great. They didn’t turn it over so that helped. The offensive line needs to be better. If they’re gonna go on a Super Bowl run, it obviously needs to be better.

I thought Jalen hurts played well. Now is there some throw he’d like back? Obviously, that happens every game. I also think for a guy calling his first plays ever that their offense looked OK. I’m assuming he is going to improve and get better each week and not pull up Pattulo and not learn anything and be the same offense week to week. I think he’s too smart of a guy and he played the position so I think he understands that he can’t do what he just wants to do when he has to evolve. I don’t think Pattulo ever figured that out. I think he wanted to do what he wanted to do and didn’t want to evolve.

Based off the report that the old line room didn’t know what the OC was doing, it kind of tells me Pattulo made it more difficult on the offensive line to play well. I don’t think that’s gonna be the case with mannion and kuper. Now kuper might just not be a very good offensive line coach

I don’t disagree that they might have been gassed to some extent. But they’ve kind of had issues even when fangio’a been here in the fourth quarter where they need a big stop or a big play. Even in 2024. I mentioned it in another post. I think that’s the biggest reason why Howie at the deadline last year went and got Phillips and this off-season went and got Greenard. cause he believes he needs that type of pass rusher that could make more plays in those type of situations and moments to lock a game up.

I don’t know about steen. Thought he was similar before and after. I said last year if he’s avg. can get away with avg if everyone else lives up to their contract.

I know somebody mentioned yesterday about Cooper DeJean possibly being injured. He had a play early in the game where it looked like he went to his core area. So maybe he’s dealing with some sort of injury. I don’t know how bad it is and he just tried to play through it. Then again, Stefon Diggs, who torched him is also still very good. Hate the person but it was a good pick of for the commanders

My first impression of Duper is good. He looks like he had his guys ready to play and playing as an organized unit in the preseason. Best I've seen in years in preseason play for the backups. I just think we have a lot of deteriorating starters in the OL, who are out of their prime. But still can be competent overall. They are no longer dominant and physically imposing. I will say the accumalation of snaps with the Tush Push, over a few years, took its toll. And all of those snaps in 2024, where it was implemented heavily. Wiped 'em out! Truly believe that. I guess, t'was worth the Superbowl. On a side note, using Hurts as a battering ram always bothered me. Could use other guys for that play.

It's hard to know. There were some key let downs on defense where the secondary allowed big third down conversions. 2 of them were on Campbell. I am not sure the pass rush was the problem.

Pass rush overall wasn’t a huge issue yesterday. I frankly didn’t think this was a great game for Campbell. Run defense which I’ve always had concerns about with him. I’d also add they allowed Daniels to use his scrambling and it also hurt him. I thought there was loss of containment at times based off the rewatch.

I think time will tell based on making tweaks and adjustments as we go along. When guy have to step in on the fly and seeing guys improve each week. I think we will have a clearer answer by years end on where he and the oline is. He’s never going to be stoutland. Don’t need him to be just be solid.
