We're finding out just how spoiled we were with Stout for all those years.

Stout had 2 HoF for over a decade and at least 3 hall of very goods minimum over the last 10 years, did he make their talent or did their talent make him? The line looked at least as bad last year with Stout here and Cam and Dickerson playing turnstile.

Ojomo might actually bring back a good return, he looks fantastic.

You'd figure you'd get a bare minimum of a third, just due to the comp pick math. I can see a team like OAK loving that move to try to generate some more excitement around that franchise.

The backups always seem very prepared (e.g., Vaitai); last year even with a bunch of cripples the pass blocking was actually pretty good.

I think this is a valid question. People have been complaining about letting Stout walk but the line was awful last year while he was here and he had no answers anyway. In my opinion, the 2k rushing season destroyed this oline. It had a much more physical impact than anyone thought. I mean Jordan was talking about how they hadn’t healed from that 2k season heading into last season

Stout did a fantastic job as OL coach here. This cannot be denied or questioned.

Did many overstate the extent of his contribution, did Howie consistently supply him with elite talent, and did he conveniently leave in the exact offseason in which the OL personnel was about to fall off a cliff?

Yes to all 3.

Greenard sure was the lynchpin of that Minnesota defense.

Two 3rd round picks and 50M guaranteed to Greenard might have been the most damaging move Howie made or didn’t make this offseason.

I don't know how you can't give credit to Stout for developing Lane and Mailata - also, less we forget Kelce wasn't always a HoFer (he had big time issues handling power, that technique had to resolve).

Lane Johnson wasn’t a Hall of Famer and neither was Jason Kelce until he started working with them. Mudd wanted Kelce at the end of the reid era. But there was a ton of fans and people always trying to run him out of the city prior to 2017. Lane was a highly talented tackle draft prospect. But he didn’t have a whole lot of time at tackle. Prior to 2011 he was QB in high school. Oklahoma tried to converted him to TE then DE and finally in 2011 to tackle. So he had two years of training prior to coming to the eagles. he had the tools, but he didn’t know how to exactly play the position at a nfl leve. I give Jeff Stoutland a lot of credit because if he went somewhere else, he may not have ever been all pro Lane Johnson. He might’ve still been good cause he had the physical tools but he may not have ever been what he became.

it wasn’t just those two that Stoutland helped. Brandon Brooks was not Brandon Brooks of what we saw with the Eagles with the Texans. He was solid, but he was not an all pro guard there. Isaac Seumalo became a consistent starter in this league and again like kelce everyone thought he sucked. He got vaitai to be a viable left tackle on a Super Bowl winning team when peters went down. after he left Philadelphia, he was never that player. Furthermore, he took a rugby player who had never played football before, helped make him into a pro bowl caliber tackle. Dickerson before he got hurt and declined, was one of the better guards in the league. Granted he was a high prospect if he didn’t have the durability concerns. Cam Jurgens was a serviceable center after Jason Kelce left. He got Becton to play his best football of his entire career at the guard that he really hadn’t played in the NFL most of entire career and he was considered largely a bust who couldn’t stay healthy. There’s a bunch more offensive lineman like wiz, who played his best football with the Eagles in 2017. I’d argue Evan Mathis had two of his best years of his career with the Eagles with stoutland in 2013 and 2014. He made first team all Pro once in his career… under stoutland. Two years with stout only 2 pro bowls.

He was here for 13 years, they didn’t have a good offensive line in 2020 and they didn’t have a good one in 2025. I would argue the other 11 years he was here for the most part the offensive line was never a problem. It is kind of disingenuous to be like well they weren’t good in 2025. Like that was his norm or he didn’t do a shitload for the eagles OL Backups and starters. Howie gave him talent and he rewarded Howie by usually getting the most out of those players. That can’t always be said. Go look at our current OL coach with the Vikings. They gave him guys who were "supposedly talented”. He couldn’t make them that much better besides darrisaw. Heck Texans let Brandon brooks walk to the eagles. He was never a pro bowl/all pro caliber guard until stoutland got a hold of him.

So yes, coaches and even GM’s like howie Roseman have bad years. It’s about the fact that 80-85% of the time he was here, we didn’t have to worry about the offensive line play or of guys could be ready to step in.

People wanted to run kelce out of town from 2013 to before 2017. People forget because he became years into his career. But there were a lot of people that wanted him gone and thought seumalo was the guy that was going to replace them at center when they drafted him in 2016. Add on Brandon brooks and Evan Mathis both had all pro years under stoutland. Brooks may have been the best guard in the league those 3 main years with stoutland before he got hurt. He was definitely not that in Houston.

Been saying this almost every year for as long as I've been on these boards. It was never more true than after 2022 when the usual suspects came out with their ITYS as if they were right all along because we lost the final game by the slimmest of margins.

The QB is always going to be debated, that's happened with every QB in my lifetime.

But now some are debating if Stoutland was a good coach. Come on. And talking about blowing up the defense and trading away the very guys they loved as core must have players.

Too many fans are way over emotional and negative after a loss. It's normal to have criticisms and concerns and discuss how the team should improve. But I genuinely wonder about the mental health and home life of some of these people if they react this way to a sports team losing a regular season game.

What are you claiming I was I wrong about? Lemon? They’ve played 4 games.

I think taking the "this guy is going to be bust” approach knowing most players don’t work out is much more cowardly. It’s a con. You say we things won’t work and then sit around waiting to show everyone how right you were.

And when have you owned up to being wrong? 🤣 This core has been to two super bowls and won one and made the playoffs every year. Who’s been more wrong? The sky is falling people or the reasonable people?

  1. I said Lemon was a bust?

  2. I own up to being wrong all the time.

  3. Why does this core being to 2 Super Bowl and making the playoffs every year make me wrong? I haven’t predicted them to miss the playoffs in a decade. Did I expect them to win the SB in 2024? No and neither did anyone else. Did I think Howie had an outstanding offseason before 2024? Yup. Did I think he had an excellent offseason before 2025? Yup. Guess what…I was wrong there. Reference #2.

I thought the 2026 eagles were in for a rough disappointment. I don’t say that every year. Just because your self worth comes from this team and you all get your thin skinned panties in twist every time I criticize something doesn’t mean I’m predicting them to suck.

On the QB situation, it’s being debated because the passing game has gotten continuously worse over the last three years. There’s a viable argument for it. Right now we’re four games into a new scheme/system and it doesn’t look promising. So I get the conversation. At some point you’re going to have that conversation if this continues down the road we’re going.

The Stout one is absolutely ridiculous. Because he has so many success stories that aren’t kelce and Lane that he helped develop and get the best out of. I don’t even think his best projects were those two guys. I think it was mailata, Becton and Brooks. Becton had never played that well in his life in the nfl. He left here and was one of the worst guards in the entire NFL last year. Brooks was never in all pro before he got here. mailata is probably nowhere close to the player he is without stout’s coaching and howie (and even stout) identifying him. It kind of tells me a lot of people don’t watch other teams and their oline play. Because if you go to the Houston Texans and bengals, they would kill to have stoutland there for 13 years and have 2 maybe 3 bad years out of that 13 years. Because they’ve been horrendous along the offensive line for like a decade now.

Nobody's debating whether Stoutland is a good coach for Christs sake, just whether he's the great god of coaches he's been blown up into by sections of this fan base. I'm sorry if I find the idea that guys like Kelce, Lane and Dickerson would've been journeyman stumblebums without the all powerful Stout to be a little hard to swallow.

McLane made a fair point on his pod. More of a wondering out loud than a point, but he said if they hired Mannion to get the Shanahan offense and they already abandoned most of the concepts and the ones they are running are ultra simplistic versions of that offense, what was the point of even hiring Mannion to begin with.

Which is fair to wonder. There’s going to be a story later this year or early 2027 about this past offseason because I’m telling you, that whole offseason felt weird from the start. The OC search, how they lost Stoutland… all of it. Felt like the older Jeff Lurie days where there was dysfunction from within.

I'm getting the impression that Hurts cannot play in the full Shanahan offense and that's why it's mixed. We also don't seem to have the correct personnel to actually do it

The weird thing though is they even abandoned it week 1. Multiple beat guys said the offense is week 1 looked totally different to what they ran all camp.
