Winning a SB is very hard to do.

It's even harder to maintain the roster and win again. There's a reason there are not that many repeat winners.

Howie learned from the first one to not run it back with older players that were past their prime. He's invested in younger players he's drafted. That was always the plan in letting certain players leave after winning in 2024. It was also known that they needed to get younger and cheaper on offense to shift that money to defense.

The new O line is already taking shape with more to come. New WR group is basically here. TE needs an overhaul and with RB injuries they need to probably move on from Barkley as soon as financially feasible and draft someone 3rd round or later to complement the room. And draft a QB to develop who will likely be Jalen's replacement one way or another.

On defense they have a good core but need pieces. And if Fangio retires...

Feels like Hurtt is being groomed to take the job once Fangio goes.

Howie's done some to refresh the roster, but letting it go this long to find a Lane replacement is inexcusable. Bell might be it but Lane had been flirting with retirement for at least two years now, if not longer. We're lucky if Bell is the guy but there should have been someone on the roster already.

ESP could be full of crap as per usual but he said Lane can announce his retirement now but not file the official paperwork until a later date which would help the Eagles out from a cap perspective.

Yes - was just coming here to say that.

Why does everyone think Lane is filing retirement papers today - they can move him off the roster and cap charges are determined by when he files papers. There is some flex there - Lane will work the Eagles on that.

You would think so, but they been doing some weird roster management this year

Ertz has to get signed as well right. Out of elevations now?

@LeanMeanGM actually explained this earlier today. Twitter has that idiot with the fat jalen hurts running his mouth on crap he doesn’t know about

I think there’s two issues. You have the hurts issue that they discussed. Which we’ve all discussed. Which running this offense he can’t do what he did in the pass he has to be on time and he has to throw with anticipation, which is not something he’s great at.

And the other issue is, I don’t think Nick Sirianni is the coach to run this offense. I don’t think he’s the coach that the Eagles truly want in terms of they want a McVay, Shanahan and Coen who can scheme/system and are able to problem solve with Xs and Os so if problems occur can fix and we aren’t just firing OC every other year. they can find ways to fix their offense and always evolving.

Everyone wants a McVay or Shanahan, but actually getting one is extremely difficult. We got this system and put Sirianni in the basement scheme wise largely because of the school of thought that 'maybe the offense is the problem', can someone help Jalen more? But now it's different and it hasn't really helped so far. It's still early though.

But uh, I mean the problem with trying to get a top 5 scheming coach is actually getting one. Are you guys willing to take the several years of horrible failure by cycling into someone who gets no success whatsoever?

Been saying this, Jalen just isn't the type of QB for traditional offenses. By hiring a coach that in any way specializes in traditional offenses, you're putting yourself behind the 8-ball. I'm not saying he can never get better at it, I'm just saying that's how it is right now. Very few teams have that kind of decade long stability on the offensive side of the ball while also sustaining and winning long term. This is the difference between a good organization and a dynasty.

Have you asked Fat Jalen Hurts?

It’s not about me, the Eagles want that. They want their next Andy Reid. I would bet Jeffrey Lurie is pretty over the fact that every other year he’s having to find a new OC because the head coach isn’t a Shanahan or mcvey and isn’t capable of fixing the passing game issues.

I don’t disagree with you. It’s hard to get. But they’re out there. The Jaguars hired one last year in Coen. The raiders hired one this year in kubiak. They’re out there. If you just don’t ever try to find it then you never will find one. Just a point out it’s not like sirianni is killing it lately, they’ve lost 7 out of the last 12 games. He’s at .500 for his last 14 games since last seasons bye week. Last 17 games he’s 9-8. Not exactly hitting it out of the park.

No offense, I want my head coach to be a problem solver. I don’t need him to just be a game manager. Right now he can’t be a problem solver with this offense, because he doesn’t know this offense. It isn’t his background or what he came up with. Lurie and howie want to run an offense like Shanahan, mcvey and lafleur’s. Whether hurts is here or not, they want to run an offense like this. That’s not Sirianni’s background.

So you’re either gonna have to find that OC that’s awesome, which is just as hard to find one that’ll just continuously stay as an assistant. Cause if he turns around this abysmal offense you’re gonna lose him as he will be poached for HC job. So the Eagles will continue to have the same story every other year we’re looking for a new OC. It’s why I think Lurie wants a head coach where he could do problem-solving and be the Xs and O‘s mastermind. Rather than having to continuously, try to find that offensive coordinator and then lose him.

And don’t give me this there’s guys that will stay. Monken wanted to be a HC when the opportunity came. He was there for a while and still wanted to be a HC. Ditto with Arians as an OC to HC. Most of the guys who are so sought still have higher expectations than staying as an offensive coordinator for the rest of their lives.

You know this world has gone soft and completely lost it's mind and way when bailing on a major commitment is considered perfectly fine and anyone who disagrees with is called out and insulted for thinking otherwise. Looking back at some of the junk that @Diehardfan has gotten over his opinion is absurd. Lane quit, period, and it's ok to say that.

Because what's acceptable and not for Philadelphia Eagles fans is structured entirely by the personal opinion of said fans. Some people, no matter what they do, they are not able to receive any criticism. Others, regardless of what they do, they are not allowed to receive any praise, and every breath is room for blame.

None of your stuff applies here though because the majority of people here are old anyway. Lol.

End of an era. One of the best to ever do it. I hate that his career ended so suddenly, but I have nothing but respect for him putting his mental health and his family first. Football is football. Some things are bigger.

Thank you for everything, Lane. Two rings, countless great memories, and an Eagles legend forever. Enjoy retirement, big man. You earned it.

Probably cause this is starting to feel like the 2020 disaster where everything basically could go wrong and it did. Going to find out how good of a CEO coach sirianni is and if he is able to keep this group from completely unraveling

I don't think so. A lot of the issues stem from stuff that might not be able to be rushed. We're well on our way to having a worse overall roster than 2023 because of so many injuries, Jalen literally cannot process at the speed right now to function behind this OL, despite Howie wanting a McVay style guy. Worse, the scheme is said to be generally easier for QBs...

Not really sure what anyone is supposed to be able to do with this mess unless they can somehow get Jalen more comfortable? I'm kind of with Chris Long on this one.

i’m not gonna respond to you anymore. Because every time you do this. You deflect all blame off Sirianni and push it all on other things besides him. Nobody is saying it’s all on him. But acting like he is blameless is BS.

What can he do? That’s the problem. He can’t cause that’s not what he does best. And their other coaches in this league, dealing with injuries, less talented rosters, and a bunch of other stuff. They don’t get as many excuses for it or run through coordinator after coordinator, they eventually get fired.
