***I think there's really only one question that matters for the 2026 Eagles: was Kevin Patullo THAT bad that his presence as the playcaller and schematic lead completely torpedoed an otherwise very talented would-be successful offense?

Because they are running it back with an offense that will be a year older, one year balder tires, one year more injury prone...probably going to start more OL combos in 2026 than 2025...and probably/maybe minus their leading receiver. All with no material additions.

So the entire chances of a 2025 below average offense not getting incrementally worse and, instead, actually flipping a switch and being GOOD...rest on the premise that Patullo was SO HORRIBLE his mere elimination will springboard the offense to another level.

This just really feels like wishful thinking. I think there are so many warning lights blinking red on this offense right now....***

I’m not trying to prove that I was right or prove that I "know ball.” Honestly could not care less. I post this because I want to understand how anyone with their head screwed on straight could have ever seen it any other way.

Only I know ball.

I thought the same when I watched that clip- that it didnt all look bad. But Schwartz has to realize those are just a few plays from 1 game. Hes been bad all year so far so....

Yeah there's a bit of the ex players union jumping to someone's defense in Schwartz post, you don't grade like Cam's been grading this year if you're playing well, I've said it before but I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both of Jurgens and Dickerson follow Lane out the door mid season. The 'concussion' protocol sounds like the team are letting him avoid the indignity of a straight benching, if the Stem cell treatments didn't really improve matters or he doesn't trust his back to hold up any more, he needs to call it a day, because playing like he is this year is just going to cloud what he was for his first 4 years.

I don't disagree with momentum in sports. I just disagree with what was or wasn’t going to give the Rams momentum in that moment. There is no doubt in my mind, the Rams wanted us to attempt a FG for two reasons.

  1. A successful FG keeps it a two possession game. I also believe the Rams were thinking 2 TDs regardles, and it allows them to start their next drive from way beyond the 2 yard line.

  2. On the off chance we miss the FG, Jojo’s head explodes, and the Rams are in the same boat they were, only with 7 more yards of field position. This largely eliminates any possibility of a safety due to a sack or offensive penalty.

The obvious worse case scenario was a TD, but next was having to drive from the 2 yard line.

Pretty sure after watching Cam Jurgens run into his own QB that they were fine with us going for it.

Before that play the camera went to their sidelines and the whole team looked dejected. It was over. A FG there and the Eagles get something out of an 11 play clock killing drive and they have to stare at the scoreboard the whole commercial break and wallow in that.

Instead they get instant life and run onto the field with some momentum.

In general, I have no issue with the call. But in that game situation with our offensive missing everyone and playing like crap, you accumulate points and play keep away.

lol I'm actually excited about the new Oline. It's the new generation with Mailata as the vet

Now that's only with Cam not playing

I am too. This was the right move for Lane and the team.

Just looking at him, he didn't look right. He didn't seem to be in his usual shape.

And I'm sorry, but if you have to beg a guy not to retire, it's time to just shake hands and walk away.

I called for the youth movement last week. It's time. This will inject life into the offense. I have a good feeling about this

If the Eagles turn it around and win the Super Bowl this year, should Lane still get a ring?

Yes

The offense IS better. Guys are running open, Brady has pointed it out, Foles has pointed it out, Avant has pointed it out. Hurts has gotten worse. Maybe its because of the OL, maybe its because he's too slow to process. But route spacing is infinitely better than anything patullo was doing.

"Taking the offense to another level", at least to me, meant going from absolurely awful to mediocre-average. They were never going to be a top 10 offense, but they dont need to be with this defense (when healthy).

Patullo absolutely tanked the offense last year, as well as sirianni who let 2 broken OL play all year

Jurgens and dickerson both need to retire as well before they put themselves in wheelchairs at 35. Thanks for the super bowl, enjoy your millions and what little physical health you still have

Just caught up and reading through, I'm interested if people still want to be sellers today after what was an emotional sports night.

I'm optimistic about this. We need guys who are hungry. Maybe Sirianni will actually step up and do some coaching now that he doesn't have to be scared of all the veterans.

The trade deadline is like a month away, so plenty of time to see if the defense and OL can gel. The boys game in 3 weeks might be the inflection point. I mean we’ll probably get whooped this weekend, but the following set of opponents should be in our weight class.

So you're saying basically to do a BPA board, then add weights to different positions based on predicted game impact? So for example if you had Brian Dawkins, but also TJ Watt, then Watt should grade out higher because of his position value comparative to pass rusher?

Sorry for using Watt here, but I tried to think of a post 2000's pass rusher from the Eagles equal to BD's pedigree as a safety, and I blanked, so I just went with Pitt. Lol.

Dawk is a tricky example because he’s one of the 3 best, most impactful safeties to play the game in the last 30 years. And there are 0 with his level of impact in the last 15.

TJ Watt? Phenomenal player but his impact isn’t that rare.

And that’s sort of the point. You might actually get a TJ Watt drafting an edge in round 1. You aren’t getting another Dawk.

But to answer your first question…yes, positional weight, that’s exactly how I’d look at it.

Some of us have seen guys being open and Hurts either not seeing them or not wanting to throw the ball to them.

But if it indeed is mostly Hurts and has been shouldn't film study reveal that to the coaches?

Or because we were winning they decided to live with his flaws and now Barkley, the oline and the defense aren't there to help keep us winning?

No. He only played 3 games, and retired for personal reasons. I wouldn't give him a ring, but he can go celebrate with the team if he wants 😄

Where we’ve been drafting the last few years, it’s not really about choosing between all-pros at different positions - it’s about hits and misses. Like 50% of 1st rounders bust out, and that includes the can’t miss guys in the top-10. If Campbell was flashing a big play here or there, we wouldn’t have this conversation. I think Nolan is a good example, he might not be worth resigning to big $ but I think he’s been adequate to where he was selected.

Nolan Smith is worth his first round selection simply for what he did in the stretch run of 2024. He was exceptional. I have no idea how he was that good then and then fell off the map.

That said, he’s been our best edge this year. Good enough for a big contract? No.

But he’s been worth it.

I have no issue with the call….then.

Now we’ve learned. Time to not trust the offense. This is not a "go for it on 4th down offense.” Next time, take the points or punt.

So you knew Cam was going to knock the ball out of Jalen’s hand and that 50% of the starters would get hurt?

This is a classic example of just saying stuff and then trying to pretend you were right in hindsight because of the results, regardless of correlation. Negative people are always going to look right because in sports failure happens more than success. You can say "this Tony Gwynn guy can’t hit watch this…” and over 60% of the time your going to be right even if he’s batting .350

You were already posting about how you were right about Lemon after he was set up to fail with a couple horrible screens. 🤣

Just say everything is bad and terrible and you’ll be right most of the time. Great strategy. It works.

He went to the playoffs last year with a bad OL, little to no contribution from Barkley, a disgruntled AJ, and a terrible OC, so how is it "brutal honesty" when he's already achieved it?

The OL is even worse now than last year's due to Lane retiring and we have a ton of injuries. When other QB's lose their weapons or have an awful defense, they get a pass when they don't succeed. Burrow is also 2-2 with an improved defense but they're 4th in their division, and have lost 2 games due to his turnovers. Some fans will never be happy unless they're rooting for some backup underdog QB that has tons of potential, yet underachieves.

Your strategy is better. Be dead wrong and rather than own up to it, just be a coward and revert to the broken clock twice a day argument. I’m sure it’s served you well in life.

One thing I read while trying to find info on this, the Eagles have $390.4 million of void years on upcoming contracts though 2030. 78 million per year just in void years. This thing has to come crashing down soon.

That's why we have to trade players with value that have no cap hits. We won't have the money to re sign them and we need mid round picks to get many cheap players to fill out the cap restricted roster. Nolan Smith we might have gotten a 4 at the draft. Now probably a 5. Steen for a 5. Ojomo could get us a 4, Goedert a 5 or 6 Woolen a 5. I don't know Baun"s cap ramifications. We might get a 3 certainly a 4 for him if the prorated money that accelerates isn't too high. We just won't have money to keep these guys. A year or two ago I saw a chart detailing we had spent way more future money than any other team. Something like 190 million, twice the amount of the 2nd highest team. It's tear it down and rebuild time and you do that by shedding salary and acquiring as many picks as possible. Howie needs to fire sale this roster before the deadline. But the problem is getting Jeff to understand it's over. He and Howie are super stubborn and may not be able to mentally and emotionally come to this conclusion until we go 4-13 or 5-12. By then it's too late to deal many of these guys. I waited 50 years to get a SB win and we were blessed with an amazing 2nd one. I feel tremendous gratitude to finally experience the joy of two titles. It's now time to rebuild. We have to keep Hurts another year. I see him as a great fit for the Steelers when it's time to trade him. Or the Jets

Sad to see Lane retire but its not a surprise, and one of those times in life you've got to what's right for you because only you truly know what's going on in your head - it's not necessarily an issue he can play through like a broken finger or toe and the sense of relief he'll have now is profound. The timing sucks, but timing in life sucks in general.

Blessed to have seen him play on or team and do so much to win 2 x SB.s Can't wait to see him to into the HoF, hopefully as a 1st ballot one.
