I liked McNeill for us.  Guessing they were comfortable with a few of the DTs and traded down.

Somthe trade down from 70 seems to have been dumb

I'm with you and I was arguing hard for loading up on DB's early and often in this draft. The fact is, this is a two year rebuild and a team with tons of needs. Forcing need picks is what leads to bad drafts. You'd think people would be happy they are sticking to their board and looking for value picks. They can sign Steven Nelson and/or draft a corner next year with one of their three first round picks. I wasn't happy with the Dickerson because of the injury risk but the Williams pick was a good one. Getting a good pass rushing 3rd DT with starting upside is better than a slot corner like Aaron Robinson or drafting another Rasul Douglas like Ifeatu Melifonwu.

Honestly, draft Cox and sign Nelson and this has been a HELL of an offseason.

I'm reading it as the Eagles had a few players with similar grades so they traded down. One of those players got picked and upset Donahue but Howie was fine with it because Williams was similar grade for him.

Of course that's pure guess work.

The draft is a crapshoot. We traded back knowing we'd get an extra pick and at worst, one of the the 2 DTs we'd take at 73. If one went ahead of us, which happened, we'd go with the other.

That's just smart EVEN if you prefer the other guy. Tom Donahue is old-school. Those scouts want "their guys".

Might be that he traded down and lost the higher rated player that Donahoe wanted and Williams was the consolation prize.  

 

That would be technically following the board, yet still pissing off Donahoe, while Donahoe wanted to also follow the board.  But Howie was trying to squeeze value.

I'm sure I'd agree more often with Donahoe than Howie. But drafting ANOTHER nickel corner over Williams? Big hell no for me.

I didn’t mention it earlier, but nice to see my guy Josh Palmer go tonight. It’s a little surprising, but he’s one of the few decent WR prospects with good size.
