Of course Tom seemed to not like that pick.    This question I posed goes back to the conversation with TEW about trading Ertz and physicals.   When asked how a trade can be undone with draft picks (which just happened this draft with the Goodwin trade), he posed the question about why Howie would want more picks this year to have to reneg them next year as they already have the most picks this year.   Which begged the question why Howie had to trade back this year to get more picks this year?  And interestingly enough, it was right after that trade back and the subsequent pick that the video came out with Donahoe being surly.

I'm not trying to make it a thing, but that's how the question came around to be posed.

The emphasis is on losing picks next year with the hypothetical Ertz trade. It’s an opportunity cost. You don’t want to give up future draft picks for present picks when you already have a lot of picks in the present. Much better to get future picks for Ertz if you plan on trading him.

On the flip side you can extract some small value moving down a couple spots this year and increase your liquidity. Howie will likely try to flip those later picks for vets.

Two different concepts.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Sounds like we missed Donohue's guy.

They rank guys in tiers, not by numerical score generally. So Williams and McNeil were probably in the same tier, which mean the scouting consensus was that they were equivalent talents.

Other scouts probably like Williams more - had McNeil been considered clearly better, Howie wouldn't have traded down 3 spots.

Ravens select Brandon Stevens, DB

Oh man, thanks for reminding me.  I was thinking we did.  Ugh.

No.  You claimed it was impossible for them to trade Ertz because of the physical, contract, etc.   And that if he failed a physical then they couldn't 'undo' the trade.  I provided the evidence that such a option exists and provisions are in place.  You then changed the argument to it being for the future picks.  Ertz could still be moved, and then those picks moved on to pick up a different veteran.

I'm not closing the door to either next year's draft or this year's.  You pretty much put forward that no trade of Ertz was possible.

The Eagles have 8 picks left in this draft.

An opinion.

Probably in the minority, but I like the draft. I get that our secondary sucks, but this team was never going to be rebuilt in one off-season. You added a dynamic WR, and sured up both the OL and DL. Dickerson is probably my least favorite pick because of the injuries, but man is the upside huge.

We'll see how it turns out.

Only one that really matters.

Use the sixths to move up in the fourth.

Browning makes a ton of sense with Fangio.

No worries.  Those 2 games that they actually used Genard Avery paid huge dividends.

Time to trade the heck up esp in the 4th.

Howie’s comment about "different ways to skin a cat” at cornerback makes me think he has something in the works.

Or don’t waste fourth round picks on Genard Avery!

Jabril Cox

Caden Sterns

Jamar Johnson

Schwartz’s fault.

well....it would only be donahue's opinion that McNeil was better. So... what now? Nothing. Just enjoy the draft. Howie is doing good.

It is not their worst effort.   I got on board with Smith.  Williams, I don't like the process that we got a small window into, but the athleticism is intriguing in Round 3.   And Dickerson is a stud every time he steps on the field.   Let's just hope he actually steps on the field often.

I blame McMabb

Lance Zierlien’s big board based on his scouting and taking to NFL folks had Williams as a top of round 2 player and McNeil as a bottom of round 2 guy.

Love all 3 picks, best draft day feeling in years.

All on day three... They need better quality picks, like on day 2.
