Watching NFLN and Gettleman is getting interviewed. DJ asked him about trading down to 20 the target was either Toney or Jamin Davis. He got sniped twice by division rivals.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Davis makes way more sense for the giants then toney. I think davis was a bit of a reach for Washington but i do think in that defense he’s going to be really good.

I remember Vermeil wanted Perry Tuttle over Mike Quick so while it pleases me that the Giants got scooped I know sometimes those things work out and I'm not going to puff my chest too much

If i were a giants fan i really would be ok about the trade they made. Would obviously loved to get smith but if Daniel jones stinks (very possible) you now have 2 firsts next year to try move up and replace him with someone in the draft or maybe trading for a veteran QB like a russell Wilson.

I’d love the trade but hate the Toney pick, especially with Judge as HC and Garrett as OC. Pick feels forced and unnecessary.

22 million right now. Likely higher by the time it comes around.... And, it will continue to improve each year. Until we are really good and have a lot of expensive vets. Then we will have to make some tough business decisions again. They cycle of the NFL....

Well, the down side of that $22M is before the draft class signs, which will lower that number.   And that it is with only 39 players 'signed'.  Of that 39, 5 of them are in voided years, which means they will count against the cap, but are not actually under contract.  So, knock that number down to 34.   Feel free to add all the draft picks, and you get to 44 players. Then consider that 12 of the names of the signed are: Rashad Smith, Jameson Houston, Jason Huntley, Joe Ostman, Hakeem Butler, Arryn Siposs, Tyree Jackson, Adrian Killins, Lavert Hill, Matt Leo, Khalil Tate, and Elijah Holyfield... and suddenly, that 'cap room' doesn't look to be very meaningful.  They only have about two-thirds of a roster of players signed for 2022.

Oh, and did I mention that with those 5 players with voided years their cap numbers will actually end up higher than they are currently showing as their spread out bonus money will all come due in 2022.  In other words, they are NOT in good cap shape for 2022, and not for 2023 either.  In 2023, they are showing about $99M in cap space, but only about 15 players are actually under contract.  But, 9 players on voided years, who are shown, but aren't really there.

I'd be ok because I'd sell myself on Toney.  It's great to get a 1st but if you passed up on an impact player at 11 for someone disappointing at 20 then you're just playing catch up with the next pick.  Could go either way.  Bears offer was very strong though so I'd say good deal for Giants from where we sit today

It honestly depends on how you feel about toney. Frankly i think that was too high for him. I’d have gone paye or darrisaw with what was on the board. Once smith went to the eagles at 10, wasn’t much distinction between what was at 12 and what was at 20 unless you really wanted parisons or loved slater. Frankly rather have 20 and a 2022 first (better draft) then what was left on the board. I wouldn’t have taken toney though. I would’ve taken darrisaw, paye or newsome (likely newsome if it were the eagles)

Yup that’s how i felt. I thought the trade in of itself was a good deal for the giants. I didn’t think slater or parsons was more valuable then pick 20 and a 2022 first from the bears (likely top 15 pick). The pick they made at 20 is where it goes sideways for me. It felt like they were hell bent on taking a WR just to take a WR. And that’s not saying Toney sucks. He doesn’t i just don’t think he was the best player available. I thought newsome, darrisaw and paye were all better prospects that would’ve been much needed help to the giants.

Slater was considered a big difference. Obviously only time will tell.

OTOH, if he does, a lot of people on this board will look like fools and Howie will look like a genius. That will be a bitter pill for some to swallow.

I hope I am wrong about Hurts.  If he does become a franchise QB, the rebuild is that much easier.  If not, it is that much harder.

I loved slater but i much rather have had pick 20 and a 2022 first rounder. I think the drop off from slater to darrisaw isn’t massive enough to downplay how much better of a draft 2022 is going to be and the bears potentially imploding. Slater was about the unanimous no. 2 tackle and darrisaw was pretty much no. 3. I thought both were top 15 worthy. Also some teams viewed slater has being better fit for IOL and darrisaw as a OT. Again biggest issues to me with the giants trade was taking toney. Time will tell on darrisaw and slater. I tend to think slater is going to be much better early on for the chargers than toney for the giants.

I thought Kadarius Toney was a 2nd round prospect, so taking him at #20 overall was a definite reach, but I like his fit in the Giants offense.  Golladay is the big 50/50 possession WR who can get downfield, Slayton is the speed WR, Engram is the TE with some vertical ability, and Toney is the short to intermediate target who has good gadget ability.  He also takes a lot of pressure off of Saquon in their passing game.

They would have been better off going defense at #20 and Rondale Moore with their 2nd, though.  It may have worked out for them getting Ojiulari where they did.

Heard an interview with Mike Mayock today; he said the Raiders traded up in front of DAL to get Trevon Moehrig.  I’m happier DAL ended up with Joseph than Moehrig for sure.

Agree would add oline too as better off. Thomas wasn’t very good last year. He can also play guard or move him to RT instead of LT. I would’ve considered darrisaw have him at LT, move Thomas to Rt and move peart inside to guard (played some guard at UConn). Or flip peart back to RT and Thomas to RG for Fulton. Line of darrisaw, lemeiux, Gates, peart and Thomas would be very nice assuming Thomas plays better this year

Highly recommend the comedy of Jimmy Carr, for those who haven’t seen his act.  I don’t have much use for Jim Jefferies or Anthony Jeselnik as I find both are overly tasteless — Carr seems to just stay on the edge while still being funny — IMO

I agree, trade was great but I didn't like that pick for them at all. For one thing I thought it was a reach after missing out on Smith, and for another I don't see them using him in the creative ways a team would need to to maximize his talent.

Man, I’d have sat tight at 12 and let Smith go to NY.

If you were ready to take Slater because Dallas was going to take the offer with Chicago rather than picking Parsons at 10. We would’ve ended up with Slater and kept pick 84 which still could’ve been the right move because I don’t see them taking Dickerson at 37, guessing CB, S or WR. Devonta or bust for Howie

The only way that this makes sense is for the Eagles to make the trade to 10 with Dallas, and then flip 10 to the Bears at a net of the first round pick in 2022 and the cost of the 3rd round pick in 2021.  All things considered, that's a good trade off.  But, you are correct, sitting at 12 is no guarantee that the Giants still don't make that trade and not grab Smith.

The Bears gave up #20, #164, and 2022 1st and 4th.  That would be worth it.    But adding an actual player for the offense is always a welcome thing.  When was the last time that happened?

Put me down for the flip, we would just be 1 of 31 other Devonta-less teams but cornering the market on 2022 1st rounders. Wonder if Dallas had some stipulation forbidding that. Flipping, where bad teams go to die but now are being resurrected Cleveland, Miami, Jets

Not sure what makes NFL players special.  If you have an injury outside of work and cant do your job, you are screwed.

Unless of course you have disability insurance.

The contracts, which will take effect in 2023 and run through the 2033 season, will cement the N.F.L.’s status as the country’s most lucrative sports league.

Well hell none of the rest of us make any money for our companies. So to hell with us

Shocked Brady didn’t ask to be traded

Trask was asked by host MJ Acosta if he spoke with Brady since he was selected by the Bucs in the second round.

"He actually did reach out to me a couple of days after the draft,” Trask said. "He was checking in to see when I was going to get into town so we can get together and do some throwing and things like that.

"That meant a lot to me.”

1st question that needs to be asked: what position is actually best for Mailata to maximize his fit?  He showed some real vulnerability to speed rushers around the edge last year.  While his strength and athleticism-for-size are both unquestionable, his pure quickness is not.  I’m not saying he’s not a fit at LT, but I am saying there is the possibility that he’s a better fit at RT given his frame and struggles with speed.

2nd: If Mailata is a better RT fit, what is so wrong about giving the smaller, quicker, more finesse blocker in Dillard a shot at LT?

3rd: Does anyone actually expect Lane Johnson to play more than 10 games next year?

That's the fun debate to have.  The nice thing about Mailata is that he more than likely can play both positions.  He could be a mauler at RT.  Until Lane is gone though, he should be LT.  I also have a good feeling that Lane comes back fully healthy so if Dillard proves he can play we have a logjam.

If Dillard and Mailata both prove to be starting tackles that will be a great problem.  What would really help is if Dillard showed an ounce of position flexibility, especially if he could kick in to guard.  Just need to hope the Eagles make the right decision moving forward.

Yeah. But Wentz is a "wuss”.

And Aaron  deserves to be a dewsh, because he's elite.

Kurt Coleman was an underrated player.  I'd take a Coleman in his prime over any of the current safeties.  He had his limitations but the guy could play and you never once had to question his effort.
