the only relevance from 2020 to 2021 might be the color of the jerseys

different scheme, upgraded skill position players, and half of our OL hasnt had their season ending injury yet.  At least wait until our OL starts falling apart before you make comparisons to the 2020 Jalen Hurts.

He deserves more of a chance than he got last year to show what he can do.  He was a rookie in his first starts on a freaking train wreck of a team

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

So he did play better then Wentz.

Other quick notes from PFF’s QB rankings:

  • Around the NFC East: Dak Prescott is at No. 7, Ryan Fitzpatrick is at No. 19, and Daniel Jones is at No. 20. So, Hurts is by far PFF’s worst quarterback in the division.
  • Old friend Carson Wentz is No. 23.
  • If you think Hurts is too low, who do you think he definitely deserves to be ahead of?

The Eagles signed Casey Tucker as well.  I'm guessing if they were going to sign Obi Melifonwu we would have heard that by now.

Don't know much about Scott.  Not a fan of constantly bringing in midgets at CB.  Not sure I understand the rational there.  You would also think bottom of the roster CB's could be had in a clean swap so for Howie to include his gold (6th round picks are his main currency) they must think there's some upside there.  He looks aggressive on tape and seems to be around the ball quite a bit.

Would still love to add someone better at CB2.  If Scott can get Maddox off the field I'm fine with it.

I imagine someone in the building fell in love with him during last year's draft cycle and wanted to pull the trigger here.

I sure hope Wulf is wrong.

Basically the eagles if maddox starts at outside corner again

Maddox makes like $2M. Does he even make the final 53?

It is probably a coach who was in a different building last year.

Didn't you just quote PFF's depth of target to fluff up Hurts?

That wasn't a ranking based on opinion.  That was strictly a stat to counter the completely fictitious and uninformed narrative that you have been trying to push.

Quite honestly, how can he not? I'm not saying he's good, but he's the second best corner (sadly) on the team.

Whether or not he deserves a chance is debatable.  The truth is he is getting a chance and all this incessant chatter on here about who he is, what he is, what he will be feels like native English person speaking with a raised voice trying to explain how to get to the train station to a person who doesn't understand a lick of English.

You would have to be in complete denial if you thought that Jalen Hurts would come into the season not ranked as one of the worst QB's in the league especially after his performance last year.    However once context is brought into the picture it is worth noting how impressive his performances truly were.  The belief is that now with a healthy o line , healthy receivers , and a full offseason of ota's and camps of being the projected starter with first team reps we will get to see a significant jump in the play of Hurts.

This fanbase  is going to have to temper expectations .  Jalen is never going to be a aaron rodgers , russell wilson, tom brady type.  But if he is used properly he can be very effective , especially in the red zone.  I think regardless of how he performs he is clearly a at worst a very effective backup qb and to me that is enough to justify his draft position.

I'd add that almost all 2020 rookies get a mulligan -- due to the pandemic, they got no offseason program, no preseason, etc. I have no expectations for Hurts either way -- he could be good, he could be terrible. Nothing would surprise me.

And he's getting the chance because (i) we spent a 2nd round pick on him and (ii) we are carrying a $30mm-plus dead cap charge for our old QB. Who exactly were we going to bring in here to play in 2021?

So I 100% agree. What is the infatuation with slot corners. Geezus. Now overall, I don't mind the move, I do want more quality in the secondary as a whole. Between Maddox, Zech and this guy I like the overall health at the slot position. But the lack at outside corner is glaring.

Someone has to play corner.

Hurts doesn't have to be "the guy" for the offense to be improved next season.

Assume a healthier OL, more versatility at RB, Smith at WR, and more young player development (it has to be better than before).

Also, after Hurts, the second major question is Sirianni.  It's not an easy read.  After 2016, who would you have bet on winning a SB first, McAdoo or Pederson?

I could see the Eagles shedding his salary to pay for a legit outside corner.

That would be fine, but even so he provides better depth than we have at a cheap amount.

By no means would I lose sleep if Maddox was gone, but I do think he's worth keeping for the time being.

Maddox was ruined for having to play 3 different positions his rookie year before ultimately having to settle for the one he’s least suited for.

In a QB driven league, yes, he has to be the guy.

Obviously Scott and McPherson are no sure things, but they were targeted by the new regime and profile to play the slot for cheaper than Maddox.

Do I expect him to get cut? No. I wouldn’t be surprised though.

I agree, but that likely means Maddox slides back outside. As it is, we have no one starting outside as CB2
