You are the one that admits to being satisfied with average drafts.  I'd rather expect too much.

Is that how the Saints got their guys?

Then you will never be satisfied. I'm more into winning Super Bowls than drafts anyways soooooo.....................enjoy

I mentioned this previously on this board, and in the past years ago on the other board.   I'm not sure Howie has ever come out and said it this plainly, but Howie is telling the truth here.

Winning one leads to winning the other.  You are just being difficult disputing the obvious fact that they have not drafted well enough in recent years.

The Eagles have had the following draft slots the past 4 years:
2020: 21
2019: 25
2018: 32
2017: 14

So in the past 4 years, we've been a bottom 10 team in terms of draft capital, before taking the Wentz trade into account. Less picks at worse slots = harder to draft players.
Yet, there are still lots of teams that have drafted worse than us. There are also many teams that have drafted better than us. Being average just doesn't make for good hot takes.

If the team wins most games in the season, it goes down to the end of the draft.  Drafting late should be a badge of honor, not a reason it yields lesser talents.  Important things are drafting the right players to fit your scheme, coaching them up and playing them.

ESPN’s Tim McManus is also reporting the Eagles "have narrowed their focus to three players, according to sources: Devonta Freeman, Carlos Hyde and LeSean McCoy.”

Reid all but told us McCoy was washed. I don’t get this one at all.

So on the list for the Saints are half their secondary. A secondary that wasn’t in the top third of the NFL despite having two players on the list.   Also the list rates Kamara ridiculously high.  His stats are similar to Boobie, who platooned with Howard most of the year.  Face it, CBS puts out list with relatively no format other than the writers opinion and you take it as gospel.  Fine, you win.  Saints are awesome at drafting. I am done.  Do me a favor and when Ruiz, Braun, and Trautman are all pros in a few years and Tommy Stevens has replaced Brees as a top 5 QB, be sure to point that out to me.

The Saints have drafted very well the last few years. That is very obvious. The Eagles have been average. That is also obvious.

McCoy would be extremely disappointing and symptomatic of this "run it back" mentality and nostalgia. He's totally cooked and can't contribute anymore. They pulled this with DeSean last year and he at least looked decent in his one game before going down. McCoy can't offer anything better than Hyde or Freeman at this point.

You can have all the problems you want with the list; that’s not the point.

You argue there are not enough OL? Ok..what OL we’ve drafted belongs there?

It doesn’t matter how bad the list is...no Eagle deserves to be on it.  And that’s the problem.

Picking later and having fewer picks makes a difference, but it doesn’t change the fact that the Saints have made it work even with stupidly trading two No. 1s to draft Marcus Davenport and constantly trading round higher future picks for targeted players.

They absolutely smashed the 2017 draft. Interestingly, their second best draft pick of 2018 was Boston Scott. 2019 looks pretty good for having only two picks in the top four rounds.

Saints have the most players on the list and the most wins in the NFL over that time frame.  The #1 player on the list just won a SB.  It takes green shaded glasses to dismiss the fact that our last several drafts have not yielded impact players, just a bunch of guys that require Eagle-friendly analysis to justify that they met expectations.

Clearly having more talent is better.  Also, the Eagles have a bunch of question marks in terms of picks over the last 3 seasons.  I don't think anyone thinks they have had great picks over the last 3 season.  I think the picks the only worthwhile picks are probably Goedert and Maddox in terms of value.  Dillard is an unknown.  I think Jones has been disappointing and is probably on his last chance with the team.   Barnett isn't a bust but hasn't lived up to expectations.  The Eagles still have a talented roster because they have hit on picks and made key additions.  This is a better roster than last season especially compared to the end of last season.

I honestly think it's an overreaction to say they are terrible at drafting.  That doesn't mean that they have been good.  I really view it as the jury still being out on many of the picks.  I also think it's foolish to look past when Pederson was hired as head coach. 2020 could turn out to be a good class.  That being said, I really do not like the Hurts pick.  I like the other picks in the class.  I think they need to hit on multiple picks to be a successful team over the next 3 seasons.  I am not sure I would call the draft good or bad at this point.  They haven't played.  I think the jury is out on the 2019 class.   Dillard is getting his chance.  Until we see how he does as a consistent starter, I don't think you can grade the pick.  Sanders has been good.  JJaw has been terrible.   I really wanted them to draft Adderly or Thornhill last season.  They would have done better drafting DK.  Shareef Miller is an unknown.  He may not make the roster.  So really this class hinges on Dillard.  If Dillard turns into an all-pro LT, then I don't see how you could say this was a bad draft.  2018 appears to be a decent group of picks.  Goedert is good.  Maddox and Sweat were contributors last season.  Mailata has shown promise in pre-season.  Matt Pryor has filled in as a back up player.  Given where the team was drafting, I think the 2018 class has been better than average.  It certainly could look like a very good class if Sweat, Mailata and Maddox continue to develop.  It could look not great if they don't.  I don't think it's a sure thing at this point.  The 2017 class has under performed.  Barnett hasn't delivered per expectations but he hasn't missed.  He's been a competent starter and it could prove to be a productive player.  I was not happy with the pick when it was made.  Jones has not delivered.  Douglas is a spot starter and back up.  I think he's probably played to where he was drafted.  Pumphrey isn't an NFL player and never should have been drafted.  Hollins played well before he was injured.  Nate Gerry has probably exceeded expectations in terms of where he was drafted. He's actually improved.  If he could consistently tackle he would be good.  Shelton Gibson hasn't delivered anything.  Qualls is out of the League.  Those were late round flyers and the Eagles did add Clement as a UDFA that season.  If you replace Clement for Pumphrey the class looks a lot better.

So my big problem with citing the article is that you cite it and provide no other analysis as to how this shows the Eagles are terrible at drafting.

I know this article shouldn't piss me off, but it does.  Year after year I don't understand the criteria that goes into this.  AJ Green is top 70 from last season, and he didn't play.  Dak top 50 is absurd.  Carson pushed out of the top 100.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/pete-priscos-top-100-nfl-players-of-2020-patrick-mahomes-takes-top-spot-lamar-jackson-cracks-top-10/

Dak needs to look after Dak, but ultimately, if he looks for too much money, they only person he's hurting is himself as a professional by not allowing his team to be the best one it can.

As an Eagles fan, I hope he get $45m+ from the Cowboys. It's best of both worlds.  A QB who is what he is, being paid like an all time HOFer. With a highly paid RB and WR on a large salary who has knee issues.

Happy Christmas...!

Mosher says Curry is going to make a decision soon and has been talking to Atlanta, New Orleans and Philly.

His decision was put on hold following the death of his brother due to Covid 19.

The longer Dak holds out the more it hurts the Eagles when they try to sign Hurts to his next contract.

Because most of these writers don’t really have any more talent at evaluating players or play than the average Blogger. All have their biases.  They are scraping the barrel trying to come up with something to write about and it is only going to,get worse. Newspapers are dying.  It’s websites and twitter as "advertisement” to get viewers.  It’s WIP and ESPN. Frankly, I would rather read an E45 post than a Prisco article.

So you want a team picking in the top ten regularly?

That's the argument I made years ago when I said that most Eagles fans would seem to view Marion Campbell as their ideal coach. That way, you're never in contention at the end of the year so you never have any truly heartbreaking losses...and you get to pick early every year so the draft is always that much more exciting. So you're always happy!

Interestingly enough, Curry led the Eagles last year in both outside and inside pressure rate.

The $45 million is just a signal of how much he wants a four year deal and not a five year deal. I imagine that is a counter so if Jerry wants to spread the bonus to a fifth year, Dak is willing for a voidable fifth year.  In essence I believe this means they agree on the four years and are pushing on the fifth.  Bet it gets worked out during the franchise negotiation period.

Seems to me signing Curry would suggest the Avery trade was a mistake.

non issue , have play to get paid

Caplan also was adamant that the Avery trade wasn’t about 2019 and that he was going to be an offseason project to utilize his speed.

I wonder how much of a detriment it is that there was no on-field work with him or if it was more of a coaching project (IE having a plan of attack on how to deploy him vs him learning the scheme)?

I would think it says more about Miller. Avery might be more of a change up/joker.

Matt Rhule brought his DC to lead the Carolina defense. Iowa State plays really good defense despite not having top talent. It’s something to keep an eye on with all the hybrid safeties we have and nickel type players.
