Not Russel Wilson, unless you mean Zach Wilson. But I can play this game too, Darnold, Garoppolo, Jones, Bridgewater, Tua, Mac Jones, Wentz, Brisset, and Tannehill all have a QBR above Hurts. Just sayin'.

He picked 3 rookies, 2 of whom are on really bad teams while the other is on at best a mediocre team, but with a HC known to be an a killer for his team's O, and 2 other QBs who have always been overrated and 1 is now on the worst team in the League.

Yes, but we didn't have to spend a high 1st rd pick for a mediocre starting QB who should be a backup:  D Jones (6), Bridgewater (32), Tua (5), M Jones (15), Darnold (3).

Garoppolo (62), 8th season, and Brissett (91), sixth season, are your other "backup QBs" on the list. So Hurts actually was pretty good value at #53, it's hard to find backup QBs who can perform competently out of the first couple rounds, but it's easy to draft QBs in the top ten who are no better than "backup QBs."

If he just stood in the pocket Dillard's man would have gotten him.

I mean, this is so far from being serious, but I know you're just doing your attorney, play the other side thing, here.

Ben hasn't been a top QB for years, neither has Ryan. 2018 was Ben's last good season. From 2007-2018, yes, 2019-2021 no.

I didn't take a "victory lap," but I'd point out that last year's defense was bottom ten despite playing half its schedule against QBs worst than Goff.

Right now Eagles are 19th in PA per game, 4th in yards per play, 11th in net yards per play passing, 9th in yards per rush, 17th in drives ending in a score. Amazing how your stats improve when you start getting past the tough part of the schedule!

They're 13th in PF per game, 9th in yards per play, 19th in net yards per play passing, 4th in yards per rush.

Sirianni is playing a more conservative, run oriented offense, which will win games against average and bad teams, but will be vulnerable to top defenses, but there aren't many left on the schedule, basically the Saints and Denver (in Denver).

WFT and Jets are good against the run, awful against the pass, Chargers are good against the pass, but allow 5 yards a rush.

They're a mediocre team, better than last year but far from good. As the OL settles in, they should improve the second half. But the fundamental issues on defense can't be solved without a couple offseasons (even if they add a couple studs, most draft picks make their mark their 2nd or 3rd season).

They should probably end up with 6 maybe 7 wins, which is still an improvement over 4-11-1.

Hurts can win you games with his legs, he's a first tier RB as a QB, and that gives him time to master the position. At worst, he keeps you competitive while you wait for a better option, instead of reaching for the next Bortles or Dan Jones b/c you "have to find a franchise QB."

Note Hurts now has a QBR above Mayfield (1), Lawrence (1), Goff (1), Wilson (2), Fields (11).  Just sayin'

So, you discount 11 years of Ben's career and focus only on the last two to claim he was never in the top tier?  Please.  That's a goal post shift maneuver.

You absolutely took a victory lap about the team yesterday and tried to talk about how everything that had been remotely criticized looked good yesterday.  Awesome.  It was the worst team in the league that they matched up against... and they were even missing some of their top players.  Congrats.

"Sirianni is playing a more conservative, run oriented offense, which will win games against average and bad teams, but will be vulnerable to top defenses, but there aren't many left on the schedule, basically the Saints and Denver (in Denver)."

Do you really want to try to go down this road?   Sirianni changed up his gameplan about 180 degrees from what he had been doing.  They went run heavy for the FIRST TIME all season, and it paid off.  Until this happens in more than one game, maybe it would be better not to try to act like this is his blue print.  It was ONE game.  Before this he was pass heavy, and putting a TON on his QB's shoulders.  Let's not try to act like he's been calling plays like this all along.  Hurts had just 15 pass attempts.  Normally he's got that many midway through the 2nd quarter.

And please stop with the 4-11-1 nonsense and saying that anything this team does over that is 'improvement'.  We aren't measuring the team by wins and losses, according to you, but according to development of players.  Has Hurts developed at all from where he started this season?  Is he any better than he was 7 weeks ago?   How many players can you really say are better now than they were at the start of the year?   Dickerson really might be the only that that's actually better now than he was at the start of the year offensively.

As for the assertion that Hurts can keep you competitive while you wait for a better option... he really doesn't.  But, he does put up a lot of points after the competitive part of the game has concluded.

QBR takes running into account, so I'm going to just ignore it entirely, because I want a QB that can actually pass the ball.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17653521/how-total-qbr-calculated-explain-our-improved-qb-rating

Is it a good play from the QB, when he breaks out of the pocket for no reason on 3rd and 8, ignoring the wide open receiver on a crossing pattern that would pick up the first down, only to scramble around like a chicken with his head cut off, and then manages to get 9 yards on the ground to move the sticks?   Nope.  That's a bad play from the QB with a good outcome.  I am far more interested in the PROCESS of the play, than the OUTCOME of the play.  This is preferred because stringing together good process plays, ultimately leads to good outcomes, and more importantly, sustainable outcomes over the course of a career.  Good outcomes as a result of bad process generally are short lived and eventually get your QB hurt, are more easily defensed by top teams and lead to frustration when the QB is busy playing 'hero ball', as so many have come to term it.  Hurts falls into hero ball mold way too much... and really is only effective as a QB when he's running the ball.  And it's not like running the ball just gets him involved in the game, settles his nerves or whatever and then he can start throwing the ball properly.  On the contrary, him running the ball effectively makes him more likely to pull it down and keep running with the ball, because that's where the 'success' was found, versus throwing it.

Tough week for predictions, for obvious reasons. Winner goes to @BigEFly for being in the same continent of the final score, predicting Eagles win 38-17.

Only 1 bonus prediction winner this week. @TorontoEagle with Eagles enter the 4th with a lead.

Miami comes to us and says we want our 1st round pick back.  Take any 2 players off our team.  Would you do it and who would you pick off their roster?

Nope.  None of their players are worth a top 5 pick.  Two of them together aren't worth a top 5 pick.  I want the top 5 pick.

I also want someone not named 'Roseman' making that pick.

Why not work out Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers and Jim Brown too?

I know they are desperate but AP hasn't been anything close to 'one of the greatest running backs of all-time' since 2015, which coincidentally matches exactly with when he was 30 years old.  He's now 36.

Nope.  We spent a high 2nd round pick for a below mediocre starting QB who should be a backup.

As for the 'hard to find backup QBs who can perform competently'... that just complete and total TRASH that you are spewing.  Only the team that drafted these guys spent a first round pick. For example, Bridgewater only cost the Vikings a first round pick.  He was available for peanuts to the Saints, Panthers and now Broncos.  Nick Foles was a pretty good backup QB for the Eagles, and when they brought him back, it cost a relatively cheap contract.   Lots of former starters (due to draft status) are available on second contracts to teams to be backup QBs without breaking the bank or spending a fortune in draft capital.

The same as saying Mahomes isn't elite.  Who cares that he won a Super Bowl, MVP, AP all first team, 3 time pro bowler.

To bad Sanders got hurt.  Tennessee is in win now mode, probably could have gotten some excellent value for him.

Pissed about my prediction.  Have Swift in fantasy, and Williams did not play.  He should have had a huge day yesterday, but ish the bad.  Had Deebo on my bench.

Add to this the Bengals defense ishing the bed, I had a real bad day in my money league.

Bengals D against the Jets F'd me too.  2 INT's, a FR and still only ONE FREAKING POINT AGAINST MIKE WHITE??!!  Ridiculous.

@LeanMeanGM

Just for you (as you seemed to want more predictions)...

Birds - 25
Bolts - 33

Prediction:  Eagles outscore the Bolts in the 4th quarter by more than a TD.

That game proved nothing other than Detroit is execrable.

I agree about the conclusion about Detroit, they are an awful team but Campbell seems to ignore what is working for him.  The Lions left plays on the field.

But I drove home through the VA mountains yesterday listening to the Things You Missed in History Class podcasts so as not to get any spoiler alerts and after trick or treaters were done for the night, sat down with my DVR and watched the game oblivious of the outcome.  Saw some improvements from the Eagles in increments today.  I think that is what we want to see from this team.

I wonder if the game may be starting to slow some for Hurts. There were a couple of plays where he adjusted in the pocket and threw.  On two of his runs, it was obvious that there was more yardage to be gained by the green that Detroit was offering him.   Still very much a work in progress, but got to notice the good with the bad and some of his early abandonment of the pocket and happy feet was bad. Goff looked worse because he can’t run.

Solid play by Goedert and Stoll is making advancements as well, especially inline as a blocker.

Nice to see my guy Scott get some carries.  Surprised at the lack of RB screens. Scott should be part of the rotation and so should Howard.  No need to rush back Sanders.  Tough running by all three backs today. Dickerson is a load as a run blocker but I also think Herbig is getting more used to his weight loss. Solid OL play today by both lines.  But I also saw a couple of good pass protection blocks by Scott.  He may be short but he isn’t tiny. Really loved, what we used to call mole runs  by Gainwell where he gained extra yards by making a whole below the defenders, who were engaged with the second string OL.  Detroit is awful against the run but this is something to build on.  It was refreshing to see some under center play and some motion.  Sirianni is still building his offense but I liked some of the things I saw today.  Looking forward to the all 22.

On defense, it was great to see Sweat get those sacks. Even Kerrigan and Jackson looked good.  Nice to see some blitzes.  Thought Taylor looked okay and Edwards breasted.  Slay continues to play pro bowl level ball.  Need to really study the All 22 because I think Detroit’s ineptitude hid from us the quality of defensive play. Looking forward to watching that back up secondary.  Maddox is playing like a player in a contract year. Ss, McLeod has lost a step, and while I like Epps as a third S, we should upgrade at FS.  BTW, Harris was not missed at all and not having Wilson shy from contact was refreshing. Detroit left plays and Campbell was bad at play calling.

All in all, the Eagles left Detroit with their kneecaps intact.

Derrick Henry potentially done for the year.  Reason #364 not to build your offense around a RB.

Unfortunately, our current offense is built around a RB.

Yep.  We have a deal in our league, the #1 seed going into week 8 is the gauntlet team, win the next three weeks, win $ 100.  The first team that beats you during that stretch, they get $ 50.  I am gonna lose because of the Jets.
