For some perspective, 5 wins resulted in the following draft positions:

2016: picks 6-7
2017: 5-8
2018: 5-7
2019: 5-8
2020: 7-9

Yes, and you continue to back me up my point.

he never put up numbers again. this was in the convo about how you think Reid never built a WR.

Are you really that f'ing dense.  You said, and I quote "he never  played in a game again".

The next season he set his career high in receptions, and had 780 yards, and played in 40 more games after you said he never played again

This is also wrong,. you made the bet 1000 that I didnt put you on ignore. (which you were) which is why I never saw the other bet that i didnt agree on.

But your gonna back peddle, and I'll offer more bets and you'll be as quiet as a church mouse

As to your second point, another board member bet you that you would not put them on ignore.

My bet was, and I will say it again slowly and use big words

"I bet you can't ignore me"

And you wonder why everyone says you are a troll.

There is absolutely zero chance that Indy will just let us walk into next draft with a top 10 pick that they have control over given its conditional status. Everyone keeps saying that they’ll hurt Wentz’s feelings if they bench him. They won’t give an ish about his feelings if they’re sitting at 4-10 and they’ll bench him with some "mystery injury”.

After this Baltimore game, the colts schedule opens up and they have a chance to get on a winning streak. They play vs. Houston, at 49ers (trey lance is not willing to throw if it’s him starting— that cardinals game he had deebo open all game and just ran instead for the most part), vs. titans, vs jets and vs. jags. Even if they go 4-1 in that stretch (assuming they lost to the ravens tonight) they’d be 5-5. They are going to beat the jets, houston and jags. That means a split with the titans and niners. The titans easily could lose that game considering they are Jekyll and Hyde as they lose games to the jets and other times and go to seattle and beat the Seahawks

When Smith is your third fastest WR, speed is no longer an issue. Get Jackson healthy at TE (4.59 40) and we can run a track meet.

How are we gonna run a track meet when the QB was just over 2 yards per attempt in the first half yesterday.

Yea, that 21 MPH WR who had a 53 yard catch ended up with 48 yards total.  Think about that.  Can't run a track meet behind the LOS.

So... I've thinking about the Gannon scheme for a bit... and I think that I might understand his plan.  Everyone knows that they are extremely limited in defensive personnel.  So, what is he doing... he's forcing teams to take the long route to a TD.  Good news/bad news.  More snaps for the defensive, greater TOP for the opposition, less time for your offense... but more reps for your young guys to use to develop.   AND, outside of the games against top offenses (Dallas and KC), they have been pretty effective even with the garbage on the back end.  Atlanta (for whatever you want to say about them) only put up FGs.  Atlanta sucks, but holding any NFL team to 6 is an accomplishment in the NFL these days.  Surrendered only 17 to the 49ers.  Again, that's really tough to do in today's NFL.  And held Carolina to 16. (Discounting the safety). In those 3 games, allowing only 13 ppg is an amazing feat for such a weak set of players in today's NFL.   The flip side is that the vanilla scheme is going to get roasted against the better QBs, because it is so vanilla.  And we saw that with Dallas and KC.  We will almost certainly see it again on Thursday night against the Bucs.  But... there is very likely a method to the madness.  It is a fairly boring defensive style to play, especially if the DL isn't eating... but it has been effective against the bottom half of the schedule talent wise.  Granted, against Carolina with McCaffery, things likely turn out differently, but he wasn't there.

So, looking ahead we might see more of the same... against the better QBs, getting eaten up and giving up 40+ points... but against the weaker opponents, you let them make the mistakes that they are bound to make, all while allowing your young players to learn the basics.  By mid-season we might see a lot more fancy stuff (we saw a bit more yesterday) but there's a lot to be said for the KISS principle, especially when the talent level is low.

Raiders game will likely depend on which Carr shows up, the guy who can play at an All-Pro level for stretches, or the guy who plays like a bust.
Lions are the Lions... the defense is likely going to be strong against them.
Chargers will likely carve up the defense.
Broncos could go either way, but I'd lean towards a better defensive performance.
Saints are much like the Raiders.  Which Winston shows up?
Giants, Eagles D can feast.
Jets this is an interesting one... how much does Wilson develop between now and then?  Could go either way, but likely a win (Eagles have never lost to the Jets in Regular Season)
Washington is another tough defensive game.  Heinicke isn't good enough to string long drives together consistently.
Giants part 2 - see above.
Washington part 2 - see above.
Dallas - depends on what they have to play for.

So, what I see playing out is 9 games that are very much winnable from the perspective of what the defense can do to limit the opponents to under 20 points consistently, and 1 that might be a giveaway by Dallas.  The biggest question that remains for me in terms of Ws and Ls, is how many of those games will the offense step up and actually score more than 20 points.  It happens 2 out of 3 times in those defensive games... winning 2 of them.  Does that mean that this team could somehow squeak out 6 more wins (with maybe a 7th as a gift from Dallas) and end up 9-8?   That seems far fetched, but if it happens as I've laid it out... a lot of credit will need to go to Gannon.   I still don't see that as likely, because I think the offensive handicaps aren't going to allow them to win 2 out of every 3 'winnable' game.   But, stranger things have happened.  I still see 6 wins as the most likely outcome, which would be 1 game higher than my predicted result.  But, I have been pleasantly surprised by the defense's ability to limit average teams offensively.

Yeah I've been a bit disappointed from a schematic standpoint and also with the overall lack of creativity, but not ready to write him off after 5 games. I think in general, it's easier prioritize stopping the pass, then move on to tweaking run fits to improve run defense, rather than the other way around trying to tweak coverages to improve pass defense. We saw this with JJ's defenses when he eventually shifted DT philosophy/roles after a few years. Obviously Gannon is nothing like JJ, but at least the general concept of prioritizing pass defense is a somewhat encouraging sign if one is straining to look for one. Unfortunately, the roster is still a huge issue and the collection of trash bags we have on that side of the ball, outside of a couple players, is going to prohibitive for just about any coordinator.

this won’t be a 5 win team. We already have 2, and do y’all see what the giants and wft look like?

We also play the lions, jets, saints, and raiders.

I think your comments are warranted. OTOH, he has had no practice, TC, or PS to speak of. It's baptism by fire. He needs time and  Stoutland.

He also hasn't played guard for a couple seasons in college. So that's an additional level of difficulty.

We’re probably going to play a ton of zone this week and get carved up by Brady, and the Slay is "just OK” crowd will be back.

DeVonta is a beast, he is literally always open, and this is without an above average passer at QB and play caller. Not to mention the dumb penalties that has cost him a couple of TDs.

Howie nailed this pick, and with a likely top 5 pick this year to boot from the Fins.

Agreed Smith is a beast and a future top player at his position and possibly even in the NFL.

Yeah Howie deserves a lot of stick but he absolutely seems to have nailed this one.

Went back to look at Dickerson and why he left the game.

He had a really back pass rep on the 2nd and 4 in the sequence that ended in loss on downs. (The play right before Hurts missed Gainwell on the wheel route.)

He whiffed on the DT, fell to the ground, and it appeared that he briefly reach for his left knee afterwards.  Stayed in for two more plays.

Enjoy!

So what do we do with Slay after the season?  If he's here in 2022, he has a cap hit of $22 million, $4 million which is guaranteed in March.  He already restructured once but I don't know any of the restructure rules.

Is DUMike the cap guy?

JJ wasn't JJ until he became the Eagles DC. And got better talent to play with.

Gannon has to work with the cards he was dealt, LBs play a bigger role in his scheme, but right now he's limited there.

Though Taylor showed flashes, and Avery and Johnson have looked decent in the SAM role. Wilson is getting pulled on run downs but Singleton has become a 5 yard past the LOS tackle specialist.

Safeties are better with Harris and McLeod, but both lack speed, so they'll continue to play deep, but they recognize the action in front of them faster.

This year is about evaluation and player development, won't surprise me if half the defensive roster is gone next season.

Not sure Id want to pay an expensive extension to an over 30 CB. But Id certainly see what he wants, and expects. My priority would be to keep Nelson, draft one in round 1, and if Slay stays at a reasonable price then thats good. If its too much, let him go.
