Chelsea needs an owner asap or they will be Fed this off season

Just read their bank accounts have been frozen

If the UK govt doesn't carve out some additional allowances in their sanctions then the club will go into administration.  As it stands now a sale isn't possible.

The Goat with a hat trick, including a golazo and trademark header. Ronnie… what a will to win this man has. I don’t think we’ll ever see anything like him again.

Jan has access to Haaland’s inner circle. So definitely a reliable source.

Seems maybe Madrid still have a chance. I think the only thing that presents a problem is the attacking talent on Madrid: Mbappe almost sure to arrive, Benzema and Vini already in place. That’s 4 undropable talents for 3 starting positions, along with a good young prospect in Rodrygo and probably the most hyped Brazilian prospect since Neymar arriving in the future.

The good news from Haaland’s perspective is Benz will likely only stay in Madrid for one more season. 4 players for three 3 positions is probably workable for a single season. There will be injuries and rotations. And Mbappe’s versatility to play on either wing is key to making it work. Long term, I can’t imagine a better young attacking partnership to spend your prime with than being flanked by Vini and Mbappe.

It could be that Haaland’s camp is negotiating with City to give Madrid a "match it” ultimatum. Money shouldn’t be that big of a deal for Madrid — they’ve been extremely profitable even through Covid and their stadium is basically complete. Massive new revenues will start flowing, the wages of Bale and Marcelo come off the books this summer, and they also have a bunch of young players who can be sold to raise cash.

My guess is convincing Haaland that he will have enough game time with so many other attacking options is the real hurdle. Seems like it could go either way between City and Madrid. Regardless of where he goes this summer, I think he’ll go to the other club in the future.

Sorry bud but what? Convincing Haaland that he will have enough games? He goes in to either starting line up and plays 80% of matches at least.

He’s not a better player than Benz and he can’t play on the wings. And you’ll have to rotate Vini and Mbappe in too. Vini would be most people’s logical drop, but I don’t think it’s that simple. Mbappe is the only guy who can play RW and Vini is the only winger who will play enough defense to provide balance.

Long term there is no issue. Vini on the left, Haaland in the center and Mbappe on the right. But for the 2022 season, I don’t think any of the players would start 80% of games unless there were major injuries. And the strongest tactical lineup would probably be Vini/Benz/Mbappe. Vini, again, is by far the best defender and work rate when out of possession and Benz is just as good of a scorer as Haaland but is a much better creator. Mbappe is a better player as well at this point.

Maybe Madrid play a hybrid 4-1-2-1-2 with Benzema as the attacking midfielder, but that’s not what Ancelotti or Perez really want and it’s dangerous because of how weak it makes your flanks. It would have been different 7 years ago when our wingbacks were stacked, but Carvajal has injury problems and we don’t have much depth outside of moving Alaba to LB.

I mean I get what you are saying but Haaland is right up there as one of the best strikers in the world. He's also still young and so he's the future for the team he signs for. Whichever team signs him is going to play him most games.

I mean, of course he’d play a lot of games, but this is the reason he might not sign for Madrid. It’s a tough fit with Benz still being the clearly superior player.

Chelsea keeps managing to find ways to win... though the level of competition has been in their favor. The fans a real pieces of work and I wish they'd all F off for a while. I'm almost embarrassed to count myself as one of them.

It's nearly as bad as being an MUFC fan these days. WOOF.

That request that Chelsea made to play their away game at Middlesbrough behind closed doors was outrageous! No basis for it at all.

I’m not even sure they’re going to win their own league much less beat a La Liga titan like Villarreal.

Solid game last night. Lille had about three chances.

It takes a literal plague for England to sniff European glory.

Thats why Madrid has more European titles than all of the remaining English clubs combined.

Meh, you had a nice 20yr run.  Haven't even sniffed a final for four years.

How many times have you beaten Chelsea over the years?

EPL teams about to eat. Except Chelsea. They are about to be eaten.

Don’t bet on it. The team has gelled and taken on an us against the word attitude. They won’t be an easy out.

They're exhausted. You can see it every match. They can't keep this up.

They've been fine.  In the last 13 games they've won 12 and the only loss was the penalty shootout loss to Liverpool after 120 mins of scintillating play.

Yeah, the entire situation has taken its toll but they get a couple of weeks off from that now.  They also get some time for a couple of the players to heal, e.g. James.  I'm not saying they will beat Real but I wouldn't bet against them.

Not many, since Chelsea are a plastic club with no European history that is only relevant because of blood money.

Yeah, never.

Not Madrid no (who is) but Chelsea has won five UEFA cups the last 25 years. Not chopped euro liver.

Starting lineups out for el clasico:

Real Madrid starting XI: Courtois, Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Nacho, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Valverde, Vinicius, Rodrygo.

Barcelona starting XI (TBC): Ter Stegen, Araujo, Pique, Eric Garcia, Alba, Busquets, De Jong, Pedri, Traore, Ferran, Aubameyang.

Madrid going with a 4-4-2 with Benzema out. Interesting… Rodrygo will be the second attacker with Vinicius. I assume this will be a diamond formation with Kroos or Modric as a #10. Very defensive personnel, but a diamond should really help to hide Kroos’ lack of mobility. Watch for Nacho and Alaba to swap positions at LB and LCB throughout the match. Tactically, it looks like Madrid will try to sit back and hit Barca on the counter attack.

A guy to watch for on Madrid is Fede Valverde. He’s quietly turning into one of the best young CMs in the world. Strong, fast, boundless energy, and very direct. He’s one of those guys where when you look at his progression stats (passes + dribbles) he’s almost literally off the charts compared to other players at his position.

Rodrygo has played well as of late. He’s the "other” high priced Brazilian teen Madrid bought a year after Vinicius. He’s not as explosive as Vinicius, but is very smooth and a very solid 2 way winger at just 20 years old. This is a good test for him. That said, I would have liked to see a true striker paired with Vini up front.

Prediction: 2-1 Madrid
