I just saw "Audition" on Shudder.  Holy moly.  That was a pretty horrifying ending that was tough to stomach.  Wasn't really a huge fan of the movie until the end.

Spoiler

If you're not a fan of needles stuck into eyeballs, then you might wanna skip this one.

Found it.  I guess the whole cigarette in the woods thing must have been another movie.  But this was it.

This looks great, and it says it's free on Hulu.  Definitely gonna check it out!

I just finished Yummy, and I’m 3 shorts into Etheria (wife had to take her mom home and stay there so I’m here watching crazy sheet by myself).

Yummy might have been the dumbest movie I’ve ever seen.  I only stuck with it in hopes they would show the chick’s boobs who was getting a breast reduction (or her mom’s) and they never did.  Instead we saw a zombie deek and a dead girl’s tiny teets.  Train to Busan was fantastic.

Does Shudder have any more content?

I keep finding more stuff on Shudder that I find worthwhile. But horror is very subjective. Fans have vastly different tastes. I liked the subtle humor in Yummy and appreciated the high production values. Most zombie movies are unwatchable because the zombie make-up and acting is awful. I also liked the new Creepshow but another fan I know hated it because he thinks the old 80s version was better. Go figure.

I also like the podcasts. Some of the commentators are pathetic but Zimmerman is sharp and the guests are interesting.

At $6 a month and cancel anytime, I think it's the best bargain for horror fans.

I understand people seeing the overall library of Shudder being underwhelming.  My personal horror movie collection is significantly larger than Shudder has available but for me the value of Shudder is the newer horror they rotate through that I otherwise wouldn't see without paying for VOD.  Considering the price, I agree it worth the subscription.

Shudder is ultimately a supplemental streaming service.  There is not enough content for it to be someones primary streaming service like Netflix or Prime Video but at it's current price point, they have it priced as such.

I watched The Beach House on Shudder the other night.  It's definitely a slow burn that takes it's time getting where it's going but it pays off pretty well.

I didn't find the characters particularly likable and ultimately they that undermines the ending.  It also has a lot of way too many heavy handed, on the nose foreshadowing conversations early on. It feels like a movie that the filmmakers think is smarter than it is.

It has some good ideas and I liked it but it fell short of being what it could have been.

I just watched this, and it definitely did not do it for me.  I liked the idea, but it fell flat in my opinion.  I have more questions than answers.

Spoiler

I liked the part where that creepy organism caught her foot and started swimming around in it.

The series’s Kingdom and The Outsider are decent. Kingdom, Korean, zombies with subtitles. The Outsider, Steven King who I’m not particularly fond of, a demon

Last night, I watched If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do? and it was fantastically insane.

It's a fire and brimstone christian/anti-socialism exploitation movie.  The preacher predicts a communist takeover of the US in 2 years time (made in 1971) unless America comes back to godliness.  It's got Commies slaughtering god fearing Christians in the street for refusing to renounce Jesus as well as soviet soldiers drunk on vodka murdering husbands and raping their wives.

A small taste of the films subtle messaging:

Holy sheet!!   🤣🤣  How do you find this stuff?  Even though that's a horrific scene, the bad acting and the music make it hilarious.  I'll give it a shot if I can find it.

It's hilariously over the top for the whole movie.  This is one I had read about a while ago but hadn't seen more than a few clips, until now.  This was a movie they used to screen in the basement of southern baptist churches for years, almost like religion porn.

Nicolas Winding Refn started his own free streaming service http://www.bynwr.com/.  He posts some oddball movies from his private collection on there and this is one of them.  He also pays to restore them himself.  The quality of the picture on his site is significantly better than the one on YouTube.

The preacher, Estus Pirkle, and the director also made two other movies I haven't watched yet, The Burning Hell and Believer's Heaven.

This is one of those instances where I know I saw a movie, I remember not liking it but I have zero recollection about the movie itself because it's been over 30 years since I watched it.

Exactly.  I remember being a horror freak in my tweens, at the video store.  That awesome cover and the dare about watching the ending.  And I remember a total dud of boring arse movie and the ending with some really bad monster costume that also f'ing sucked.  😆

I watched Host on Shudder over the weekend.  A group of girlfriends hold a seance via zoom conference while bored in quarantine.  Things go as well for them as you would expect.

This is a pretty fun watch that goes against a lot of trends in current horror.  With so many slow burns/dread inducing mood pieces coming out over the past couple years, a tight 1 hour jump scare-fest was actually a nice change and pretty well done considering the circumstances and budget.

I also went to the drive in this weekend and caught a double feature of the original Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2.  I've seen them both individually many times but this was the first time I watched them back to back.  If you've seen them, you know the second is more of a remake of the first with a lighter tone than a true sequel.  As you might imagine, watching them back to back isn't really ideal, even though I like both individually quite a bit.

That said, it must have been longer since I re watched the original than I remembered.  I think the humor present in the sequels colored my memory of the first one.  I was pleased to see how well it worked as straight horror.  I was 10 or 11 when I snuck into the theater to see it during it's original release and loved it.  It was great to see it on the big screen again.

Good suggestion on Host!  I just watched it, and I think my favorite thing about it was that it was less than an hour.  It would have been hard to watch it in this format with those accents any longer.  😂  Overall though, it definitely caught me by surprise and was entertaining.  It provided plenty of that "jump scare-fest" you pointed out.  They blatantly stole a few scenes from Paranormal Activity 1 and 2 (the flour on the floor so you could see footsteps and the kitchen cabinets flying open).

Spoiler

I liked how the demon just got right to the point.  Instead of tormenting everyone, he was just snapping necks and lighting people on fire.  😂

I liked the short run time for that format too.  Effective, quick, and a bit nasty.

Just saw a new one last night called, "The Pool," on Shudder.  I was not expecting much, but overall I thought it was pretty good.  It's literally some idiot that gets caught inside a huge deep pool after it drains.  Then somehow an alligator slips into the pool.  It's infuriating at times watching this dumb arse making wrong decision after wrong decision, but it's worth the watch.

Just a heads up...........there isn't anything too disgusting or gross in this movie (except a fingernail scene), but there is a gut-wrenching part.......and you will know it when you see it.  I can't really give you anymore than that.

1BR on Netflix is worth a watch imo. It’s a decent psychological horror.

I was just about to post about this.  Probably the 1st good horror movie on Netflix that I can remember for a long time.  Another creepy one about cults that's worth the watch.
