Pathetic Scoring 1 run is a bigger issue than the guys responsible for giving up 3…that’s for sure. The offense is what it is…feast or famine. That’s just going to be their reality. The players I worry about, at this point, are Ranger, Alvarado, and Stott. Ranger has been a gamer in the playoffs, but I don’t know that we’ll ever see him where he was earlier this year. Alvarado has a long way to go before he’s usable. And Stott…his book may not be written yet, but this is a season long slump at this point. He may turn it around, but I don’t think he’s going to do that this year. So they are probably going to have to deal with 2b and 1-2 OF spots being holes in the lineup for the playoffs.

They can’t consistently hit against good pitching. Go back to when they went to London onward. Every time they face good pitching, they haven’t been able to hit it. The times that they beat in good teams it is because they faced like the three or the four or the five starter or guys are no longer in the rotation. They face glasnow they looked awful. they face Lopez twice. Both times looked awful . They faced houck from the Red Sox. They got their ass handed to them. They face burnes. They didn’t look good. Skubal shut them down. Kelly and gallen they didn’t hit well and had tons of chances. Only good pitcher they’ve hit well is fried who’s not been as great this year. At some point in time it’s not feast or famine, they just can’t hit good pitching. Now they make bad pitching look better at times because they swing at Crap.

At this point we might just have to accept they aren’t a good team and they are an average to slightly below average baseball team. Since they went to Colorado they are 36-38. That’s 74 games or 46% of the season. They were hot for April and May cause the schedule broke their way. Lot of easy teams. And 3 of the teams over .500 in SF, Padres and Mets weren’t playing well at that time. since baseball is a long season, you evolve as a team over the course of 6 months. Teams like the dbacks, padres, brewers have gotten better over the course of the year. The Phillies have gotten significantly worse with each passing month. Their hitting has been regressing. Their bullpen has regressed. And even their starting pitching has regressed. Peaked in April and May and haven’t been able to recover this goes back to their offseason. They were arrogant in the fact they got to the nlcs and thought they didn’t need to make moves to improve the roster besides Merrifield. They believed they’d just fix their hitting issues and guys would get better. Instead marsh has regressed. Stott has regressed. Rojas really hasn’t made the jump they envisioned. Harper has gotten worse with each week since coming back from his injury. Realmuto is on the decline and needs to be in a platoon. Bohm is the only hitter who’s improved. Turner has been better than last year. Castellanos has been about what he was last year. The bullpen is much worse than last year. Alvarado is a disaster. Dominguez and Soto were what they were last year. Hoffman and strahm have been regressing since the AS break. Kerkering has been bad since beginning of July. Factor in their deadline moves have done next to nothing to help the team as hays is hurt and estevez has been regressing from what he was with the angels. said before the season doing nothing in the offseason would be the reason they’d take a step back. I was shocked they were playing as well as they were in April and May. But league caught up to them as they are progressively getting worse as other teams are evolving and getting better. I don’t even think I’d consider them one of the 10 best in baseball right now with how they’ve played since London

They just managed to survive because they hit enough home runs that it didn’t matter until the last 5 games of the NLCS. When you go 217, 219, 230 with RISP in 3 series (and the 230 is inflated because game two they were 5-7 and the rest of the series they hit .160) you weren’t good enough you were destined to fail when the HR drought came The fact that they were arrogant enough all off-season to just sit there and not do anything except add a utility/ bench guy like Whit Merrifield was ridiculous. Your arrogance at the trade deadline last year likely lost you in NLCS. Because we all knew as soon as Hoskins went down they needed a power right handed bat at that deadline. There were guys out there like Hernandez, Bellinger and others and they didnt break the bank and you just didn’t wanna do it. You believe guys would just be better and fix their issues. Veterans of 7 years or more are what they are. Kevin long hasn’t improved the young guys except for Bohm. And then you got to the deadline this year, and your solution was Austin Hays. I like Hays, but Hays isn’t a marginal upgrade if that. this goes back to your roster construction and arrogance. After losing in the NLCS they thought they didn’t need to add. Everybody kept saying oh look they’re spending money to signed their own guys. It didn’t Fing matter because your team stayed the same and didn’t improve. You took leaps of faith that didn’t pay off and had no other solution to the issues if that happened except for a 35 utility player. Literally look at every contender in the NL around the Phillies. All of them made moves and additions to improve the team except for maybe the brewers and they still added a big bat in Hoskins after trading burnes. phillies sat there and didn’t do anything. So what did you think was gonna happen? The rest of the league wasn’t gonna catch up to you or use the plan that the diamondbacks employed to beat you? The arrogance is why they kind of deserve to completely collapse.

If it was going to deteriorate him that much then we have bigger problems that he was going to fall off a cliff sooner rather than later. It was BS excuse for the Phillies who just didn’t want to retain Rhys thinking they didn’t need him and spend the money to go into another tax threshold. a issue not talked about is that they lack HR power outside of like 3 guys. Turner, schwarber and Harper are homerun hitters. And Turner is less so than the other. But everyone else isn’t a HR. Bohm is a doubles hitter. Castellanos every other year isn’t giving you more than 25. Last 4 years (162 game not 2020) Castellanos has gone 34, 13, 29 and 16. Marsh, Stott and Rojas just aren’t homerun hitters. realmuto isn’t at this stage of his career. They let Rhys and 30 HRs and 80 RBI averages last 3 years (162 game seasons) and didn’t replace him. They just hoped guys would step up and it’s still a massive hole that needs to be fixed
