October 9, 20241 yr Of the 13 times Topper has made a bullpen call this series, the Mets have scored in 11 of them. Genius managing.

That was all BP being garbage. He went Hoffman in the 8th then strahm following him and then Kerkering. All of them got destroyed. I’d have done the same thing with wheeler at 111 pitches and likely in that order. They just sucked. games 2 and 3 topper needs to be blamed for his BP usage. Pulling Sanchez earlier then he need too. Then Ruiz in the 6th was idiotic. And then not going back to estevez after 8 pitches in the 8th inning. Today not pulling nola before Alonso after the first two guys got on. Frankly would’ve gone Hoffman. He’s our best BP arm and im going down with my best. and then going Ruiz at 4-0 is just ridiculously bad decisions. This is a terrible series for Alvarado. Mets have a ton of righties and he’s been awful against righties

Those are the guys that got you here and your three best bullpen arms in that game. And at the right time too. That’s just not handling your Fing business. I can’t really blame topper for that one. Games 2 and 3 I think he had some poor decisions. Frankly Ruiz should not have been brought into a game in either spot he was. That is a high leverage situation. He is not a high leverage pitcher. If you need mop up duty or your beating somebody’s ass, you bring him in. They need to quit with this he’s got great stuff so he can be there. He’s not. This is like what they thought Marte was going to be. marte still sucks. Just because you have good stuff does not mean you’re a high leverage pitcher. I thought it was a mistake to not have Estevez or Hoffman to go out for the 9th in game 2. In this game, he should’ve pulled Nola as soon as first and second no outs and not had him pitch to Alonso. you could see kind of lost his location and command. Then again you brought Ruiz into a four run game. Go with Jeff Hoffman. He is your best reliever. One of those two situations he should’ve been out there. Keep it at two or keep it at four. Jeff Hoffman should’ve been used in this game. don’t get me wrong. the bullpen has been a disaster. Topper has had some poor decisions on when to use guys in certain situations since game one. To be perfectly honest my order of blame right now is 1. Hitters 2. BP 3. Topper 4. SP
October 9, 20241 yr Hopefully they actually make some real changes this offseason. Need more contact/high OBP guys, less home run or nothing.

I tend to think they need to move on from marsh, Bohm, realmuto. Probably stuck with Realmuto. Hard for me to blame Castellanos who’s hitting .385 this series. Yes his 6th inning at bat was atrocious but really he shouldn’t be hitting cleanup. If he’s batting 6th or even 5th he’s much better suited for it. To me they need a cleanup hitter who’s more consistent. Then can get away less consistency lower in the lineup. fact of the matter is jt, marsh, Bohm and hays are a combined 1-32.

October 9, 20241 yr Bohm is 1-10 this series on 19 pitches. He’s had 1 at bat where he’s seen over 2 pitches. Lol

JT’s quote after game 2 felt like a lot of BS they’ve said all year when they bust out then revert right back. I don’t know if any stories will come out in the off-season. More of an eagles thing when things go poorly. But they went on that Rockies and giants road trip in the end of May and were never close to the same team. We can say they just peaked during that April and May but I think something happened in that locker room. And there was a story where I think it was, Matt Gelb said, Thomson went off on some guys in the locker room, particularly Soto. So I’m guessing there is more going on the what we know for them to play as mediocre as they have for a while now.
October 9, 20241 yr I think the Padres are the most complete team that’s left but the Dodgers might just slug their way to a World Series title. Because of the hitters they have they’re never out of a game. And they might just be able to score 8 to 10 runs enough in he course of a series to win a World Series even with pedestrian pitching.

I'm rooting for the Astroid someone mentiened earlier

I wish there were players like Tony Gwynn or Rickey Henderson nowadays. We need people that get on base and advance. Where are the pure hitters and the base stealers?

It’s why they’ve been pretty consistent after their rough start.
October 9, 20241 yr Not talked about enough in this game, the decision to play Sosa wound up backfiring. Because he’s not as good of a fielder as Bryson Stott. Stott is at second base you probably turn that double play and you’re out of the inning without giving up 2 runs. Sosa was great when Turner was hurt but really that is not who he is. He regressed back to his mean. He is what he is a solid backup. At some point need Stott to play everyday and just see if he grows or not. Love and die with your best guys out there.

The game has fundamentally changed in the past 10 years or so. Crazy stat: You had 36 guys in the MLB hit over .300 in 2004. Only 7 guys accomplished that feat in 2024.

You would think some team would start growing pure hitters in their farm system and beat this launch angle stuff and give pitchers nightmares.

It’s cause their top 5 all hits for good average and doesn’t strike out at the rate others do around the league. (Dodgers are close cause of having betts, Ohtani and freeman… Hernandez this year has been way better with avg and Obp the previous two years) arraez .314 and 29Ks tatis .276 96Ks (102 games) Profar .280 101 Ks (158 games) machado .275 124 Ks (152 games) Merrill .292 101 Ks (156 games) Bogaerts .264 79 Ks (111 games)
October 9, 20241 yr I am traveling in Kazakhstan for work so I fortunately didn’t have to suffer through watching this one as it started at 2am here. Said it after game 1 though, lineup just isn’t good enough. We thought these bottom 4-5 guys would grow and get better and none of them have. So you have a few superstars and a bunch of middling players who aren’t showing up against postseason pitching.
