October 14, 20241 yr A little bit of conflict going on for me right now. Obviously, as a long time Phillies fan (more than 40 years) I definitely find it difficult to root for division rival NYM, however I can't exactly be happy for the LAD's either because everyone who's anyone in California is jumping on their bandwagon and making it an east vs west thing, which, oddly enough, is how I came to be quite supportive of the Yankees back in the late '90's when they were playing the Padres in the World Series.
October 14, 20241 yr I made the comment a few months back about us being the whitest team in the league

I have the Mets and their fans on the level of cowboys and cowboy fans. So anyone but them makes me happy

October 14, 20241 yr Apparently, Thomson and Dombrowski having a joint press conference tomorrow which means ole Rob is coming back. This team never learns. Can't wait until they run the same team back again only to get clipped in the wild card round next year.

The Manager sets the tone for the team to follow. When asked about the offensive shortcomings since June, all he can say is " ho hum, it's just baseball" or "ho hum, they'll eventually slug", or "ho hum, they'll eventually get it going." No sense of urgency from that guy. If we could go back in time, I wished the team would have hired Bruce Bochy when they fired Girardi. I guarantee they would have at least 1 title within these last 3 years. Instead, they hired a guy who was never even considered to be managerial material even though he has like 40 years in the big leagues. I was watching the Dodgers bunt not once, but twice the other night. Why don't the Phillies play small ball? Why can't Rojas lay down a bunt by now? Why is he allowed to swing for the fences instead of just being a slap hitter who uses his speed to get on base? What do they practice in spring training? Is it because it's not hip and cool? Is it because he doesn't believe in it? Nah, he's a huge part of the lackadaisical attitude that has infested that clubhouse. With the Braves getting their injured guys back and the Mets looking to be improved, the Phillies might be fighting for that 3rd wild card again next year with Thomson and then who's to say they make it.

How many times does he wait until it's too late ( usually bases loaded ) to yank a pitcher...... nothing like putting added stress onto a reliever. He placed the left right game to a fault....... playoffs..... the mets Minea was killing right handed batters over the last few months, but he was giving up quite a few hits to left handers. So by all means , keep your left handers on the bench. maybe he takes orders from above...... but If he does , then he's not a good manager, hes a puppet.

I didn’t think they’d offer Yamamoto $300+ million last offseason and they did. He turned them down for the dodgers but supposedly the Phillies offered it. They also went after crochet at the trade deadline. I wouldn't be surprised with Ranger being in his last year of arbitration that he might be used as a trade chip rather than paying him as he can’t make it a full season and they paid Sanchez instead. Sanchez, wheeler, nola and painter are 4 of the 5. If they don’t want to pay Ranger long term then i could see them going after a pitcher like last offseason/deadline

I feel like Ranger is gone... like you said trade and Painter will probably slot in at the 5. I could see them trying to go after a number 2 starter.

Also painter isn’t likely to start the year at the mlb level. Probably not up here til June or July as he’s going to be rusty and let him figure it out in the minors. Add on keeps his mlb contract clock from starting if brought up after a certain point. listening to multiple podcasts, multiple people like gelb, amaro and zolecki all said the same thing about Ranger. They said the Phillies thought he got out of shape as the season went on and that he needs to keep himself in better shape. Feels like they have their reasons why they don’t want to pay him and paid Sanchez. I love Ranger but i think he could be asking for more than they think he’s worth and they don’t love that he continuously breaks down midseason (probably their belief due to not keeping himself in better shape)

October 15, 20241 yr I don't know why the Phillies waste their time scouting Japanese players. They all either sign with a West coast team or the Yankees.
October 15, 20241 yr You never know what a GM says is true and what are smoke screens, but Dave Dombrowski is ostensibly saying in this press conference the same stuff he said last year. That they like the team and coaches and think they can correct the issues with the bats by working on it with individual players on the offseason. So far all the questions have gotten "Everything is fine" responses.

They extended him by a year so he wasn’t a lame duck. only reason that Kevin Long should be back is if they believe Soto as a higher chance to come here as he’s close to long. Otherwise it’s a disaster as he deserved to get fired
October 15, 20241 yr If they run it back they deserve to Fing lose again and everyone deserves to be fired after 2025 when it happens also don’t want to hear middleton say he wants his trophy back. So If Dombrowski is going to say this then he better actually do it and middleton better allow him to

If you are sympathetic to the Mets, that will change next season when their obnoxious fans remind us a thousand times about how they beat us in the playoffs. The Guardians have the second-longest championship drought in the four major leagues (only the Arizona Cardinals have gone longer since a title, if I remember correctly), and the Yankees have a substantial drought compared to historic success (and a Yankees championship would shut up obnoxious Red Sox fans). So it is clear to me that either American League team, but especially the Guardians, deserve Phillies fans' support or sympathy.
