I thought a decent top 4 would be Turner leadoff, Bohm 2, Harper 3, Schwarber 4 but they're obsessed with keeping Schwarber as leadoff.

They wouldn't want back-to-back righties then back-to-back lefties in the lineup. I would do Harper, Turner, Schwarber. Turner can't hit leadoff. He doesn't take enough pitches. Bohm isn't a cleanup guy. Those guys hit 30+ homers per year and as we've seen, Bohm ain't gonna do that. Bohm should be in the 5 or 6 hole. They need to find a true cleanup hitter somewhere and preferably a true leadoff guy. Not sure that's gonna happen though.

I’m assuming the reason they won’t do that is the it would be R-R-L-L. I still think they want Stott near the top of the lineup. Issue is he has to be like 2023

Yeah, Stott would be a good candidate to be a leadoff guy IF he can get back to what he was last year- seeing a lot of pitches. I just don't know if he walks enough to be the leadoff guy though.

Their top option is really Turner when you look at his career numbers batting leadoff. His avg (.302), OBP (.348) is higher than when batting 2nd (.292/.333) (100 more PA). He also doesn’t try to hit as many homers as he has 11 less HRs leadoff as compared to 2nd even though he has 100+ more PA. Has also close to 60 more SB. I tend to think he gets into this mindset in the 2 hole where he has to drive guys in and hit HRs then he goes into a slump when the HRs stop. His issue since he has come here he strikes out way too much and like you said before he has to see more pitches.

Turner, Harper, Bohm(if he's back), Schwarber. The problem with that though is Schwarber k's too much so I don't know if he would be good in the cleanup spot.

I said this at the start of the season and at the end of last year, they don’t have a cleanup hitter. They need one and it would make a big difference because it would protect Harper and you can move guys down to five and six that are more suited to be in that spot.

Dodgers teeing off on the Mets bullpen. It’s the weakest part of the Mets. Able to do it more often by knocking starters out by 6th. Dodgers have scored 15 ERs (17 Runs) on 21.2 IP by Mets bullpen (doesn’t includes inherited runners like last night)

No surprise. The Dodgers have professional hitters who don't swing at balls but swing at strikes. They also take their walks and don't play hero ball. They just pass the baton to the next guy. What a novel concept. Hell, Max Muncy got on base 12 straight times, and I think 7 or 8 of those were walks. Anyone on the Phillies disciplined enough to do that? Hell no.

Obviously, the three Hall of Famer at the top of the Dodgers lineup is a massive advantage. But even when you go four through nine, they have different types of guys at each one of those slots. The Phillies have way too many guys that are the same thing. Bohm (when head on straight) is about the only one that isn’t looking to hit HRs. Stott was that in 2023. Muncy and kikè are playoff gamers. They tend to usually show up. We have a lot of guys that are frontrunners and wilt in bigger spots. That’s the reality. Dodgers right now are playing like F it if we lose we lose but they are loose and just living in the moment. Phillies besides their obvious issues really are frontrunners as when things go well they can pile on but when things go south they can’t pull themselves out of it in a reasonable time frame

LMAO @ 'Off-season for the Bums'.

I don't get Phillies fans.  They discovered their secret sauce with this, but then just reverted back to their old selves.

Kind of see the Mets forcing this to a game 7. Manaea vs. dodgers bullpen. Dodgers did well vs. sd but not so well game 2 doing this. Then it comes down to buhler vs. severino. Dodgers really should’ve pitched Yamamoto game 3 and buhler game 4 so Yamamoto is going game 7 (if it went 7)

Dodgers always seem to find a way to lose in the playoffs

Bullpen question for everyone.  As a former pitcher, I think it helps to have a role.  The Phillies had a fairly stacked bullpen this year.  But it was all about matchups, where we were in the lineup, etc.  That’s fine…neither right nor wrong.

It doesn’t matter so much in the regular season…but in October, when it becomes a pressurized head game under bright lights…I miss having an inning almost being a part of a player’s position or job description.  Designated 7, 8, and 9th inning guys.  Guys go into the game knowing exactly when and what their responsibility will be and can be mentally prepared to ice their inning.

And for the team…you feel like if your starter brings a good game through 6 innings, you get a huge momentum boost knowing things are about to shut down with your routine closing crew.

Get 3 high leverage relievers and let them own an inning.  Then have a mentally stable and reliable disaster crew for when your starters get chased early.

If they hope Painter will take that spot by the end of the year, it doesn’t really make much sense to invest in a 5th starter for 3 months.  Might as well let Walker compete with whatever other random arms they have in spring training.

F that. Walker has one of the worst statistical seasons of any starting pitcher in Phillies history. I much rather just let Abel be the 5th starter until painter is ready at end of June or July. At least with Abel you might get something out of your once prized prospect. You aren’t fixing Walker. His velocity has been dropping since his first year here and progressively getting worse.

heck bring turnbull back or someone like him for dirt cheap and just hope he holds up for 3 months.

With how many crap pitchers we’ve brought up I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten at least a call up for the bullpen

Juan Soto is never leaving the Yankees. we can forget about that now after that Cleveland series. Phillies are doomed

I’d really gage where the Astros are with Kyle Tucker. Tbh he plays OF and is a bat we need. Hes a FA at the end of 2025 so chance the Astros lose him and he’s coming off an injury year (his numbers are still really good considering he played 78 games).

Maybe McGarry and Abel could be the future of the bullpen.

If you are sympathetic to the Mets, that will change next season when their obnoxious fans remind us a thousand times about how they beat us in the playoffs.

The Guardians have the second-longest championship drought in the four major leagues (only the Arizona Cardinals have gone longer since a title, if I remember correctly), and the Yankees have a substantial drought compared to historic success (and a Yankees championship would shut up obnoxious Red Sox fans).  So it is clear to me that either American League team, but especially the Guardians, deserve Phillies fans' support or sympathy.

yeah but I live in California now so that's far less of an impact for me. Last week I saw a guy wearing a Mets hat, so I went up to him and said "you're a Mets fan?" He replied, "No, I'm a (SF) Giants fan. I just don't want to see the Dodgers win." In 28 years of living in California, that's the first guy I can ever remember seeing wearing Mets gear.
