The Guardians have the second-longest championship drought in the four major leagues (only the Arizona Cardinals have gone longer since a title, if I remember correctly), and the Yankees have a substantial drought compared to historic success (and a Yankees championship would shut up obnoxious Red Sox fans). So it is clear to me that either American League team, but especially the Guardians, deserve Phillies fans' support or sympathy. I hate the Yankees but no question I'll be rooting for them over the Mets or Dodgers.

What’s even more irritating when you listen to the press conference even more, he goes to Mets had a worst chase rate than the Phillies. The Mets only had a worst chase rate than you because in April and May they were god awful. You got to August and you became the team with the worst chase rate. So for a third of the season, you were the worst team in baseball in Chase rate. If you don’t think that’s a problem and you want to try to make excuses you deserve to be fired. if they come back and run this thing back then fall short like they’re going to do if they run it back should be fired. Everyone. they might be hiding their cards, but if this is just a tweak here and a tweak there, I don’t wanna hear John Middleton‘s BS that he wants his trophy back. You have a chance to get your trophy back. Put your money where your mouth is and make the moves you have to make otherwise I don’t wanna hear this BS about your trophy. Because you ain’t getting in anytime soon running it back with minimal moves as your team was 51-50 in its last 101 games. you know there’s a Fing problem and your arrogance is on full display season ending press conferences in a row because you got lucky you got to a Fing World Series in 2022.

It almost feels like DD is saying F the fanbase, I know what I'm doing. Like he's doubling down on his crap decisions. From my perspective he's been an avg at best GM. And to look at the chase rate and hitting/AB approach strategy and think that no changes need to be made and Kevin Long is great is just a slap in the face.

He has to be playing coy. There’s no way any rational observer of this team could consider them fine as currently constructed.

There’s no way any rational observer of this team could consider them fine as currently constructed. I listen to the press conference twice to make sure I heard what he said. There is so many things are ridiculously short sided and just arrogance. I look at it this way your 5th starter was a disaster because you did a horrible job fixing it. Can say we have 6 more wins if we had a better 5th starter down the stretch but their issues with 5th starter stem from a GM that made bad decisions. From inside your system in the minors, you knew wasn’t gonna be good enough based off their minor-league stats that year were atrocious. giving Walker the contract you gave which is an albatross. then trying to explain how the Mets had a higher chase rate for the series when the Mets had more batters go to the plate more and the Phillies threw more pitches. Add on the Mets are not loaded lineup. So they have inferior players at a lot of those positions compared to you. So it should be worse for them. It shouldn’t be close enough to where you’re getting your ass handed to you. And then they talk about you look at the offensive production in baseball right now it’s down. And then you look at the playoffs, teams aren’t scoring as much. Literally the Mets scored five runs or more every single game you played. The two winners in the NLCS so far have scored nine and seven runs. They bad offensively cause you are delusional enough to believe that these guys are going to change. It’s why for a 1/3 of the season you were the worst chase rate team and 12th in runs per game since June 1. get help from the outside.
October 15, 20241 yr I’ve been talking about Schwarber‘s protection deeper in the lineup, being more important than him at leadoff for the last three years. This whole argument that look at when Girardi had him out of leadoff and the Phillies were bad and couldn’t score. The Phillies were bad under that manager to begin with. Even if he bad at lead off, they probably were going to be Crap. So you really haven’t seen it with a different manager and with different guys in this lineup now. I would really love to see him batting like third because if Turner and Harper (who have good on bass percentage get on base), get on there is more chances that he’s gonna hit two or three run homers. He’s probably gonna give Harper better protection than anybody they’re gonna get in the free agent market besides Soto.

October 16, 20241 yr Just making sure you guys realize that everything will be exactly the same next year, right? The starting lineup, the batting order, the rotation will all be the same. There might be a few minor pieces that change, but for the most part nothing will change. And the end result will be the same in October.

I also remember those great Phillies teams of the 70's couldn't get past the NLCS. But they wound up winning the series and another pennant in 83. Be careful for what you wish for. The Phils have done a lot more losing in their history than winning - and we can very easily be looking at losers again if the team jettisons Thomson and Dombrowski.

October 18, 20241 yr This Cleveland/ NY game was fantastic. Cleveland ties the game in the 9th with a 2 run homer then walks it off in the bottom of the 10th with a 2 run homer.
October 18, 20241 yr Said this last week, the Dodgers might just slug their way to a championship and not even have the starting pitching. This is what the Phillies should’ve done to the Mets bullpen. The Mets bullpen is not very good. If you were going to beat them, you had a tee off on their bullpen.

As far as I’m concerned there’s never been a debate about batting Schwarber leadoff. It’s asinine; I don’t care how many walks he gets or what his OBP is. He’s a sloth on the bases; he’ll never steal a base, go 1st to 3rd on a base hit, or put any pressure at all on a defense. To top it all off, he strikes out 200 times a year. Af least this season he produced more runs per HR. Didn’t he have something ridiculous like 46 HR and 90 RBI in 2022??

He hit .248 in 2024 which is much higher than his .197 in 2023 and higher then his 2022 avg of .218. The issue is they need his HRs as they lost Rhys HR production. Turner was added to be another player to the lineup constructed with Rhys in it. He shouldn’t be hitting leadoff. We need a cleanup hitter as we really don’t have one unless you move him from leadoff. No offense to Castellanos he’s not a cleanup hitter. Harper is batting 3rd.
