I get it and I suspect there are probably more red flags that would take him off the list.  But what you are saying there is that a kid who was driving too fast was warned that he was driving too fast and did it again. You are judging that more harshly because of the result which while understandable isn't really right.  If he had 2 reckless driving tickets would he be taken off draft boards?

I'm also judging that he did it all when the draft is coming up. So many horrible decisions when you're future is basically right around the corner

I think he'd be in jail if he had 2 reckless driving tickets. You can go to jail for just 1 in that state

Since there are folks on here who want to give Carter a complete clean slate for his driving record, let's also do two more things:

1)  Go and redo his Pro Day workout for him since that wasn't actually him (I guess)

2)  Ignore that he's actually not a top 10 prospect in the first place

He's lucky he didn't get ticketed for reckless driving the first time and gone to jail

Edit: Although that may have saved lives

Some might call that an unlucky consequence for him in avoiding the first ticket.  Also, I don't know the circumstances, but it looks like he was ticketed for speeding and paid a $1,000 fine.  I don't think anyone that gets actual jail time after their first conviction for a misdemeanor especially reckless driving.

It’s possible, but also keep in mind his charges were misdemeanors. I’m not exactly an experienced veteran in this field, can you get jail time for misdemeanors?

Todd McShay alluded to character concerns for Carter before any of this stuff was made public. I don't think he was talking about the car crash but about other character concerns.

The officer that pulled him over showed heavy favoritism towards Carter and hinted he knew who he was and that he played for Georgia. The officer also pleaded with Carter to stop speeding and to spread the message to his teammates. Which leads me to believe this is a regular occurrence for the the entire team.

I couldn't agree more. It looks like the Eagles are doing their homework on him.  I don't think they would pass on him lightly given his talent.  If they do pass on him, that tells me a lot.  The FO values DT and especially the ability to bring interior pressure.  If they pass over him,  the Eagles believe their culture and veteran leadership will not be enought to help him be successful.  He would be going into a group with 2 very good established veterans (Cox and Graham) and a former teammate.  If that's not enough, that says a lot about him.

My guess is that Rosenhaus believes the Eagles won't pass on him which is the only explaination for the statement.

I’d be surprised if it was Rosenhaus making that decision.

On the first point I agree there probably is something more there.

On the 2nd that's my point college football players in major programs get away with stuff all the time.  Reckless driving on it's own is not uncommon I'd wager.

The sites I've seen say you can get up to 1 year in jail for reckless driving

Carter has red flags flying out of his ass. Not one but two incidents of reckless driving, 2nd tied to a fatality.  Showing up overweight to arguably the most important day in his career and couldn't finish drills. Not meeting with teams outside of the top 10.

No one has stood up for him on any of this as you would usually see if someone did have high character and good relationships with teammates. Then there's the Dan Campbell nugget about him. There have been whispers of character concerns all over.

This isn't even taking into account his pedestrian stats throughout his time at Georgia. Rotating or not, he had just made a few "wow" plays and people are hyping him based on that. I wouldn't have him in my top 10 most drafts even if he was a high character guy with no off the field concerns.

The Eagles will do their due diligence and meet with Davis & Dean to learn more about him. Hoping he doesn't end up here. Screams disaster.

Ultimately I think they end drafting Nolan Smith who seems to be the higher character Georgia player

What?

Not wanting Carter for character concerns is 100% fair. But he's a top 5 non-QB pick in any draft class.

Would rather Carter at 10 and then Givbs at 30 than Branch.

Carter will likely go onto be a great pro.  Pro Days and combine are overrated so much by people.

Maybe but I think he put it out because he believes it's true. They could decline to interview without making a statement.  It's not like Rosenhaus is hoping to tank his value.   Rosenhaus is savvy and doesn't seem to make rash statements about his players.

Not sure you can if you’re the star football player for your national championship squad. To me it’s not about driving too fast.  I know I drive too fast and did when I was his age. It’s how he responded, according to reports at least. Leaving the scene?  Two people are ejected from a vehicle and you make no attempt to render aid?  Lie about it?  He got the friends and family discount in terms of his charges and got away with it but the character concerns are real. As are the conditioning concerns.

That's what is always funny about here. Every single pro personnel analyst has Carter as a top 3 talent in this draft but they are sure their analysis is better.

Right he could be a terrible person all around. Or he could be a young person who likes to race his car which while extremely dangerous is probably fairly common amongst the testosterone overloaded young athletes. Is he a worse person because of a tragic result? Panicking at the accident is bad but not exactly unique either.  It's certainly all concerning and needs more investigation which what they are doing.

I blame the Fast and Furious movies.  There are way too many of them.

I know this is a very vague question, but there was a draft prospect I think in the last 5 years who absolutely bombed the combine and was projected as a high pick. I can't remember who it was. They showed up really out of shape and did awful on workouts.

Anyone remember?

Orlando Brown Jr.  Turned into a perennial Pro Bowl player.

He also participated in the Combine instead of running away, and has a really good driving record.

Jeffrey Simmons got hurt right before the combine, so you may be thinking of him. Also beat a woman to a pulp that was caught on video.

Not true.  I heard he "rolls" thru stop signs.

This is a tough one. Cincinnati offers a 1, 2 2’s and 2 3’s for 10 overall with Murphy and Witherspoon on the board. Is Murphy worth more than 5 top 100-players?

Seems like a lot, but Cincy will probably be at least in the divisional round next year, so those are low end selections in those rounds.

So were Luke Joeckel, Dion Jordan, and Solomon Thomas.

If you just want to parrot what the guys on TV tell you, anyone can do that.
