D. Taylor - bust

N. Dean - bust

These two picks and the subsequent moves to fix this mess have really handicapped this defense. The fault lies 100% with Howie. I think it is the perfect example of the Eagles trying to get cute in the draft, thinking they are the smarter than everyone else.

Howie makes great moves here and there but he mixes in a lot of horrible moves in between. Outside of Ghost nobody in the back 7 deserves to come back. It's early on Smith but at the same time when the goal is to get back to a SB you don't take a project at the end of the first with a corner sitting there. He did a horrible job this offseason outside of Swift and Carter.

Tackling is part of it, but you don't end up 29th in pts allowed per drive just because you're missing tackles. The problem is far more systemic than poor tackling. Believe me, I really wish it were that simple and easily fixed, but it's just not.

This is what Siri and Howie want to do. I'm going to take back all the ill will I had towards Schwartz, Gannon and the like because the scheme is coming from upstairs. Well not Gannon F that guy.

Nah... I think the poor play from the LBs was the bigger factor in this one. Deebo, Mcaffrey, and Kittle ate them alive

But that's the point. Everyone knows the LBs suck(including the Eagles) so they need their DL to dominate to make up for it. They didn't yesterday in a matchup they should've had the advantage on. The Eagles LBs are going to be a problem every game, it is what it is. They're bad. We knew this back in August when they were healthy. They're even worse now with the injuries.

Lol before it was a win is a win but now that we lost it's the world is ending

I never said a win is a win. Most of us saw how lucky they got and said they need to fix crap, but as we saw yesterday that probably isn't possible. It's also how they lost and how their defensive stats show them bottom of the league. For a team with a goal of winning a SB that's freaking horrible. They got their asses kicked and not many ways of fixing it this year. You can lol all you want and point to the record but they have serious problems and those of us living in reality see it.

No one thought the Eagles would be in this position. They are. Just sucks that the defense is in a rebuild. Offense needs to carry them as that's where all of the talent is

Howie saw the Chiefs pass all over them in the SB and let things get worse in the back 7.

Way too much was put on Dean to carry the linebackers this year. There's a reason a he fell in the draft and the whole success of that position group shouldn't have been dropped on him. Maybe they wanted Shaun Bradley to play a bigger role this year, but I don't think he would have ended up helping much. Morrow and Cunningham are decent depth pieces, but there's no way they should have gone into the season with them as starters. It should have been a higher-prioritized position. But they were definitely relying on the DL to mask the LB issues, which hasn't worked.

$100 says he will be in Dallas on Sunday night

Yea, for the halftime show where he will announce he needs more time to think

I wasn't exactly Schwartz's number one fan, and was fully ready to move on from him, but he (along with Gannon) atleast had our corners pattern read against bunches rather than static assignments pre-snap.

The Eagles had one PBU all day yesterday. Can anyone guess who it was?

They didn't yesterday I believe because they are worn and banged up. I think it's pretty clear we need to give up hope on some miraculous improvement from the D. They are what they are. We need the O to dominate especially with TOP and in the redzone. Keep the D off the field and rested so that the DL can get home. Without the pressure the D is toast. At least stop the run with Cunningham back or something. Can't have both pass and run killing them.

He focused on the trenches in the draft which is fair. Should have kept at least one of the LBs though that was the biggest blunder.

The only hope for the defense is that they turn opportunistic and can force more turnovers. You don't need to be a great defense to get interceptions or force fumbles. Especially with this defensive line. They're going to give up yards, they're going to give up points, and the talent is what the talent is. It's lackluster. But getting the offense 1-2 turnovers a game might be enough.

I understand the defensive philosophy -- stop the run, don't get beat over the top, and force a team to dink and dunk. Eventually, a negative play or penalty gets them into 3rd and long. But then you need to get off the field at that point, and the last 2 weeks we have been owned on 3rd down. I'd like to see them maybe play Reddick, Sweat and Carter less on run downs and try and have the specialize more on 3rd down. But they need to do something -- this scheme can't work giving up 3rd and long all day.

Reed! They weren't going to get many PBUs on the plays that San Fran drew up. Screens, swing passes, wheel routes, match ups on LBs, etc. Pretty much the stuff we hate that the eagles do because it rarely works lol

That's not the scheme they deploy. Doubt that changes. As someone said earlier... analytics

Our back 7 isn’t particularly physical or tough. Cunningham is tough, but has no finesse at all. Reed is tough. Brown is tough but has no idea what he’s doing. Slay and Bradberry are finesse by CB standards. Morrow is soft for a LB.

It didn’t show up last year because the offense was more consistent game in and game out, plus they were getting take aways.

CJGJ missed games but still had a bunch of interceptions, and yesterday they missed him big time

I blame you, @Diehardfan  and @ManuManu for not being negative enough on game day.  I didn't see a lot of @eagle45 posts on Sunday. There should be no excuses for his low effort performance.  @TEW is far too rational maybe he put money on the game.  Could he be using his big bucks investment job to pay off players in sort of gambling scheme? I am just asking questions.   @austinfan didn't even show up once to defend Howie's inability to address the LB position.  Also what is @mattwill doing even keeping track of the predictions.  Maybe just don't take predictions who are clearly bad luck and shouldn't be playing.  Maybe @paco , @hputenis and @greend should have stayed on  WU.  I also blame @LeanMeanGM for his snark and @Iggles_Phan for spelling Eagles wrong in his username.  On the whole, Sunday was a blog failure. If you have not been mentioned, please think about what you have done and maybe try a new pair of lucky underwear.

I wasn't in the blog, I was at the game fool.  Get my jinx right.

And pay me $$$ not to go to another.

Offense needs to put up 17 first half points this Sunday, minimum.  Another 7 points or less, and down 2 TDs at halftime will be quite irritating.

Guys, this loss was 100% on me. I went to Vegas the weekend of the Jets game, flew back Sunday morning to watch the game, and we lost. This weekend I went to Vegas Friday night, came home Saturday, and we lost. Vikas goes to Vegas = Eagles lose.

Where's the Super Bowl again?
