no rook TE is gong to be TE1 on day 1.

Why can’t a rookie TE be the top guy day 1 did we not see Kyle Pitts, Sam Laporta, Bowers plenty of other TEs have come in and started day 1 and have done fine

So why should we take a "not the best recruit" it's the NFL, you need the BEST recruits.

No you need the best players plenty of kids in college are not top recruit turn into good players for small School… Josh Allen went to Wyoming because he wasn’t highly recruited coming out of high school.

Dallas Geodart was a D2 TE didn’t even play D1 football so clearly wasn’t a top recruit out of high school.

Q our CB wasn’t a top recruit out of high school the major programs missed.

Hunt was a small school kid he seemed to do well last year as a edge for us

Plenty of other examples of small school kids that were not high recruits.

Why you have a scouting department to scout players can’t just base it on what program they play for

My main gripe is that they can't block and you are spending a round 1-2 pick for a guy who MAYBE gets 1-3 targets per game and needs taught how to block before becoming our TE1. Why add another TE2 to a room full of them?. You know I was a TE(in HS) and I should be droning on to GET one. And I would if there was one worthy of TE1. We demand our TE 1 has the ability to block and ZERO of these are blockers. So although possible, you'd need to spend a boatload of time training them. If we had a pass happy offense who threw 40 times a game, I'm with you, but once again that's not how we play, unless of course we are going to open up the passing game

LOL well I looked at all the factors WHERE he played. He doubled BOTH WR's COMBINED, so unless you plan on throwing to him 12 times a game as your #1 target, I can't make that investment leap. Maybe you can,but I want a guy who has played against the big boys. His combine scores didn't break the bank for me either

Think the bigger thing is are the TEs willing to block we can coach them up as long as they are willing to block… no they likely won’t be Geodart caliber blocker at TE day 1 but as long as they are not rookie Ertz bad at blocking we should be alright

So take a step back and read this post...

You are listing positions where we need backups.

If we lose Goedert we need the starter... so logically that should tell you it's a priority. I get it, you are focused on the 30 visits...the lines. ... Lane just signed an extension to 2027...but getting his backup has been a mini obsession of yours since the day after last year's draft.

I know it's difficult to change the lines of thought after putting so much time in those ideas.... but we also didn't anticipate how the Goedert situation would go and look like he isn't going to be here ...even this coming season, let alone any extension.

So TE has to be a strong priority or at least a probable pick on Friday.

Round 3 I may look, 1 and 2 too high for me, but doesn't matter, it's what HOWIE wants. I just can't make that investment draft capital leap. Everyone loves a Cinderalla story, but you shouldn't draft a guy that doesn't fit. Fanin is a no go for me in 2. Maybe he IS for Howie

I would rather go get Mayer from the Raiders. JMO

Fannin isn’t really my guy can care less if we draft him or not but just saying not to draft a player because they played for a small school mmmmm need more then that as to why not take a player

Right, you can get a kid like Gunner Helm and train him all year, but he's not TE1 and Fanin would not be either. He's (Fanin)not very bulky either he would have a tough time with NFL D players, this isn't the MAC anymore. guy like Mayer is plug and play

Not against small schools per se, I am a bit more cautious with them though. Q was a fab find and the Toledo DT will go high this draft. I would just be certain any TE I took would be ready day 1. Loveland would be great,

but once again not taught how to block. if the staff thinks they can be trained in time, then go for it. Mayer is ready to go day 1,I would try for him over drafting one

I mean it's also possible we trade for a TE. But it has to be considered as a possible...very possible position that will be addressed soon. Very possible a player that gets picked Friday.

I already pointed out Mayer from the Raiders. He is sitting behind Bowers doing nothing. he was pick 35 in that draft. He has experience in the NFL, he is a top notch blocker. He got 800 yards a year in ND, that is untapped in the NFL. He's a perfect replacement for Goedert. I have no clue what it would take, but that's my play at TE

I would even pony up the 64 pick to get Mayer, could be had for less possibly

If we move Geodart then we need a TE1 guy that can come in day 1 and be the guy… whoever that player is I trust our scouting department to find we have a good track record when it comes to TEs

Michael Mayer from the Raiders. I posted all the links about him. He blows the TE's in this draft AWAAAAAAAAY

Mayer was pick 35 in the 2023 draft

And done nothing in the nfl in two seasons and lost his job last year to a rookie Bowers.

I have no issues taking a flier on the guy but would not say he blows away this TE group either

Sure we lost alot of D linemen, need to restock. Can't say for sure who the starting RG is either ,that one is up in the air also besides TE

We had in most of the TE's who could be around in every round. Just choose wisely as they get 1-3 targets per game with our KISS offense

So why should we take a "not the best recruit" it's the NFL, you need the BEST recruits. Fanin played against inferior players in an inferior league. He stood out, I can't argue against that, but vs WHO?. Making the leap from basically a "supercharged HS" to the NFL is a big one and why if we took a TE, I would opt for one who played with the big boys. When your TE has more yards than that teams WR's COMBINED(and it's by alot) you can tell he was the focal point of the offense and was never really taught how to block because they needed him out on patterns. So whatever. IDK what Howie will do, but if he wants a TE in 2,I hope he makes a better choice than Fanin because those "eye popping" numbers will vaporize quickly at the NFL level, then you are stuck with another TE2. JMO as a former HS TE. I did not want to play TE for Akron U(same division)

Fannin had big games against Penn St(Big Ten) and Texas A&M(SEC). You can’t cheat the homework that much. Yeah he played at Bowling Green. I’d say that’s saying even so much more if he can roll Against the Big 10 and SEC with Bowling Green supporting cast and accomplish. But I understand it’s never easy having confidence in the smaller school guys that would seem to have so much larger a transition. What he does I see as easily translating. He’s not Mr perfect repertoire route tree guy. He’s not a huge TE. He’s not known for blocking. He’s an athlete…that’s has that ‘it’ factor that enables him to make a move to get open…and a move to create with the ball in his hands making a defender miss. All that can’t be coached. He can learn blocking technique and possibly some route running techniques. His skills should translate to the NFL pretty much from day one he already relies on. Goedert was our big YAC Creation expert. So he’s taking over that whole package right away. We were looking for Ainias to contribute in this area. I’m not righting off the second year WR just yet. But I am not viewing him as any lock to make the team either.

They don't need 2 TE1's he is tradeable for them. They just added another vet too, so he is definitely a trade target. They can't find a QB so even Bowers suffers in LV until they DO. When Mayer was drafted he was their TE 1 (until they drafted Bowers the year after). IDK why they would take 2 top TE's 2 years in a row,but I will take advantage of their stupidity

Fannin Jr and Mason Taylor both will only be 20 years old come the draft super young guys.

I’d likely lean Taylor just because I prefer the size of him over Fannin… but both projected in rounds 2-3 image of we want either we have to take them at 64

Then we need to go away from the KISS offense if you are going to use him as a receiver. That's what I keep saying. if you want to go pass happy,I'm all for it,but that's not how we are built

ASmith was disappointing for me,but you know he was a round 5,so it's wasn't a huge draft capital investment. Not like the 2 pick you are talking about

But I get that Fannin isn’t the traditional prototype all around TE. Second round…even way back at 64 I do value that pick. I’m greedy…always want more. But really thinking about how any additions add to our team. AJ and Smitty working downfield with our O powered by Saquan. I want guys that can add any differing element to the O.

Except we pulled Hurts back to 25 passes per game. How many of those are going to the TE?
