Ongoing Eagles New Discussion volume 2

Bad culture organizations can most easily be explained by looking inward at exactly what our Eagles now possess. Starts at the top. HC relations with players. Ownership buy in. GM relations across the board. Nothing more key than player leadership.

You were batting 1.000 in your comment until the final sentence. I would rephrase what you said as follows … "Starts at the top. HC relations with players. Ownership buy in. GM relations across the board. And player leadership that makes sure that that culture from the top carries right down to all the players who take the field.”

I would throw in something about an overall theme of "accountability at all levels” but it is neat and clean as written, so that will be for another discussion.

BTW, intend desire to win is an attribute that can cut both ways. If that intend desire is out of balance (too much), it can be destructive rather than constructive.

Welp, now we will see if Hurts can be more than mediocre when his big scoring stats are taken away at the GL and he is forced to make 10 yards in 3 downs with no security binkey

He will still have the security binkey. The sneak will be just as successful with two players on his flanks surging ahead behind the surging O-Line as it was with Goedert and Saquon pushing him from behind. The Eagles will assert their will on the opponent. "You can’t stop us” Is very demoralizing.

What did they "sacrifice"?

Fantasy stats.

Yep, gotta cover for the mediocre QB now

I’m new to this merry group, so I don’t know whether the above comment is serious or sarcastic. Can you fill me in?

I already said this, back before the Eagles came out said it, but they were preparing all the while adding FB's for this possibility

I don’t think adding the FB was for goal line play, but rather to open holes for Saquon (and whoever is RB2) all over the field. We know that opposing Defenses are going to go with 8 in the Box. As we saw many times in 2024, the vulnerability of that Defensive approach is that Saquon can and does take it to the house if he breaks through that first line of Defense. Having a FB blast through the hole before him increases Saquon’s chances of success. It probably reduces the wear and tear on Saquon as well.

BTW who the heck would be DUMB enough NOT to key on Bark at the GL??? I sure would, but you can't box him and Hurts both in from the 1. After a long run what is wrong with rewarding him at the GL?

Rewarding him with Fantasy stats is a distraction from what is important … getting a TD.

Ham is implying Howie will be stuck without much cap space in 2027. That's why he mentioned that huge $8.6 mil cap hit for Jurgens.

I didn’t read it that way, but as I said above, I am new to your merry band of men, so I can’t always tell the players without a scorecard.

Agree..none of the RBs had this offensive line or ran the ball vs Nickel coverage in a single back set..like Barkley. Also...I don't think we need 2000 yards.

I believe they didn't trust Shipley last year and used Gainwell more for other purposes than rushing. One would assume a trust in Shipley and usage f Dillon as a rusher...should take the need away from Barkley...especially on early downs. He may be actually used more on 3rd downs and passing situations this year though.

Who knows... but a lot of anticipation going into this year.

Regarding the RB usage last season, I believe George Eliot said it best … "What novelty is worth that sweet monotony where everything is known and loved because it is known?"

Which suggests that the comfort and familiarity of a routine are often more valuable than new and exciting experiences.

This is the version of Hurts contract... only for a C instead of a QB, so the numbers are on a smaller scale. But same principle.

You made it seek like Hurts made such a sacrifice taking a team friendly deal...but you don’t see it with Cam?

Both get great cash. Both with miniscule cap hits relatively to their positions. Both locked in long term.

Both great contracts for average starters at their positions. If either are considered top 10 at their positions...both deals would be excellent... if both could be considered top 5 at their positions....both contracts absolute steals.

Are you still that clueless? Hurts could be top ten? He’s best franchise QB ever. On a HOF track

That guy you can’t stop #HurtsHating is best Eagles ever had.

You two are still bashing the leader of our team. Pathetic!

I meant the security of going 9 yards in 3 downs knowing the tush push will get us home

Once again he has the best supporting cast in the NFL

What else does the guy need to do for you? Carried the team to the playoffs every single year:

IMO Hurts is a middle of the pack QB, possibly top 10-15 range. His success is based on 1)his 600 pound leg press lower body 2)the best supporting cast in the league. In Ham's view, he is a god to be worshipped. He carries this entire team all alone with very little help and I disagree with that assessment. He calls me "a hater" when I point out Hurts weaknesses. Further the offense is not capable of functioning without Hurts. Forget entirely the fact we put up 70 points using BACK UPS. That had to be luck completely since everyone under the sun knows Hurts is the whole offense

He finally improved last year after we took the game out of his hands and went to 20-22 passes vs the 40 before the bye. He functions very well as a game manager. He is no Peyton Manning or Joe Young. He also got to play with the best supporting cast in the league. The fact he was not "on the run much" made controlling the game effortless. Keys to any game- impose your will, win your battles especially in the trenches. Ball control and no turnovers. Hurts(and the other 21 guys) did all of those things well last year

Sure, but it's great as a coach to reward a player who makes a spectacular play and gets you to the 1. I would sure give that guy every shot to score. Don't have to of course, but it's a nice gesture to put a stamp on that drive

There is no bashing, it's reality. Any top QB would do well with this offense we have

I love how you think he is the only guy participating in the offense. He plays fine after we pulled him back. He is a good game manager for a RUN FIRST team. he was a cog with 10 others, He carried no one, they all did their jobs which is why we pay them

After the bye, he settled in and stopped the BONEHEAD plays. Did you hear ANY complaints from me after week 6 last year?

Ham, I believe you have misread Joe‘s statement. What he was saying was generic that the contract terms of the Hertz contract would be excellent for a to any top 10 quarterback and an absolute steel for a top five quarterback. He wasn’t making any observation about whether Hertz was in any of those categories
