Playcallers constantly do it. Why should the QB have to constantly do it? Especially after the first two statements clearly demonstrate the coaches don’t have the answers that they should be telling the QB about.
July 17, 20241 yr Jalen Hurts it feels like you guys forget is only 25 years old. Had a different OC every year he’s been in college and the pros. He still needs to be taught some of these things. Needs a few more answers to the test still. It’s completely understandable…to me at least. Let’s watch and see if Kellen Moore doesn’t have a few answers to the blitz for Hurts this season. He isn’t some offensive rocket scientist….but I bet even he has more than just the answers of go long…or bubble screen to counter a blitz. Quick timing passes is what I was calling for most of last season. Receivers breaking off on Hot Routes I begged for second. Think we’ll see some of Saquan punishing some people this season trying to blitz. He either stays in to block…or goes out to burn them.
July 17, 20241 yr Saquan was pretty much the only personnel move the franchise made to combat things. Unless you count Ainas on his YAC creation plays. Which would count…if they can get the rook up and going.

RB that can stay on the field for all the types of plays...plus a 3rd RB that should get some carries. 2. Slot guys that can have ability to catch a short pass and run. Those elements....added to what was already here.... plus an OC that isn't here because he was a childhood friend of the QB... Plus I believe Lane Johnson and all the other reports...the QB had his best offseason as a pro. And I don’t think any of that has to do with his physical ability. I expect elite from this offense.

I just quoted Siri on how Hurts had bailed us out several times before n the first half of the season…particularly to win the fake versus the Chiefs. I just think there has to be a limit on expectations placed on the QB. Even your answer expecting Hurts to audible is an admittance of a failure of the coaches. Not sure how you can’t admit and college you are even saying this in yourself…in blaming Hurts for not changing the playcall even more. But in such clear demonstration of the coaches showing they have no answers ….there is no case you can make the coaches were instructing Hurts to adjust and he just wasn’t accepting coaching.

So that can’t even be an excuse.

Number two is still a huge question mark. I’ve still be of the thinking a third WR needs to be in the works. Most likely via trade. But any way the opportunity arises. Be so very key for this O to be "elite.” That fourth option that just has to beat the Ds fourth best cover man. That D player is going to be really bad some weeks. To be able to take advantage there should go such a long ways.

It wasn’t just Johnson being bad as OC…it was that we lost our quality QB coach. Under a legit quality O minded head coach things could have been ironed out most likely. But not under Siri.

July 17, 20241 yr Playcalling is done by a professional O mind getting paid to do that job. 1 hour ago, joemas6 said: Who gets hit on a blitz? You seem to be lumping HC, OC, QB coach, Passing Game coordinator, QB and playcaller all on the plate of Jalen Hurts here.
July 17, 20241 yr John Mara on Hard Knocks candidly stating how he’ll have a hard time sleeping if the Eagles get Saquan. Priceless!

I expect Hurts to see 6 guys lined up on the line...and i know the empty backfield isn't going to work. Bring in a blocker. If the QB can't tell one guy to come block....that's a problem.

I think the jump from Swift and a zero 3rd RB....to Barkley and Shipley is significant... and I think the slot position having better fits... is a moderate jump. Put all 3 together, and you said the offense was already ranked 7th??? I expect elite. Plus... again, i believe the reports that Hurts has had his best offseason as a pro.

All depends on the definition of elite. The O was elite statistically most of last season. But to me that key bump from good to elite is the hardest achievement. It isn’t something Parris Campbell is getting us over the hump with.

If the QB wasn't allowed to simply signal a guy to come in to pass protect... that's a system issue for sure. If he was allowed to make that " adjustment " at the line, but didn't...then it's on the QB. Either way... new system...and I definitely believe this has been discussed and the QB will now make the adjustment.

July 17, 20241 yr Again..while your obsession is to avoid any blame for Hurts... my belief that they addressed Hurts responsibility in making these adjustments. You see.... the childhood friend... maybe can't get past Hurts being a child...mentally. Moore and his QB coach don't know the preteen Hurts...they only know the adult, so they come in ready to give him adult responsibility. Hurts also isn't held back by the mental training wheels... and he finally experienced adversity as a pro... the first offseason where nobody kissed his ass. I believe this helps him mature a lot. Great for the team. If you can get past 2023 and who you want to blame and move on to where you see this helps Hurts now. Then maybe you will get it. But I'm thinking this is like 2019 cap...you just can’t get past it

July 17, 20241 yr Let me ask though. Do you always go into every season focused on all the bad things that can happen.. who gets injured etc? If Trent Williams gets injured what do you expect from the 49ers offense? Elite? Is this why your wedding caused all this anxiety? Constant thinking of all the worst possible things happening?
