Where is this " applicable " to return list?   It's IR.

There is no limit to being placed on IR.

There are 2 restrictions that matter.

There are some placed on IR that aren't going to return because they were placed on IR before the cut down day.

Anyone after that is allowed to return.

So out of these guys... the 3 that we have on IR... they can return if possible...if we desire.  But they don't take up a spot in the sense we can only put 5 more guys on IR...we could put more than that.

We could put another  9 guys on IR....have 8 of them return..and none of the current 3 we have on IR have to be the ones designated to return.

They take up no spots...until the team designates them to return

That’s not how I read it. Tons of media out there have been clearly marking some players as places on IR and some IR Designated to return. If they didn’t need to be designated to return first they sure shouldn’t have worded it the way they did.

Before everyone that was hurt in camp...if they went on IR, they were done for the season.   That’s why we had injured guys on the roster at the start because teams were afraid to cut them or pit them on IR and lose them for the season.

It's a nice rule to able to have 2 guys not have their season end or possibly get claimed by other teams.

In addition to allowing PS guys to play.   That’s one thing Covid seemed to have helped...is make it more flexible for teams to keep injured players available and under team control.

Lol. ..  they aren't activated... this is the reporter anticipating stuff.

You have to be on PUP by a certain date... which is basically IR before everything starts.

If you get injured after that date... but before the final roster date... then the original rules were that you were ineligible to return.   Because they didn't want you to stash guys without having them make the team first.

Once the 53 was set....then anyone going on IR is eligible to return.

Now they just let teams add 2 guys at the deadline...so it gives them an opportunity to come back instead of having to sit out the year.

The guys on PUP can always come back, because they were injured before the start.   I believe it's a date right around the start of camp that is the deadline.

PUP is injured before TC and never suiting up for practice before final roster cut deadline.

Because the old rules you were never allowed to return from IR!

Correct... basically a list that is allowing the previously injured player to return.   But he doesn't have to

Teams just made their cuts and then placed guys on IR so they weren’t lost for the season. Then added guys to the roster. So now they eliminated that step for GMs. They don’t have to roster the IR guys while letting the two guys that would fill their spots had to pass through waivers. So takes the risk out of that whole process.

You were allowed two but they just had to be activated. Now you are allowed eight designated to return spots on IR. Whether you activate all of them is up to you.

Lol... if a player goes on IR during camp...done for season right?   Who went on IR during camp?

That's why any of these guys now... can go on IR and return.... because they made the 53 originally.  In camp there is no final 53 yet.

The other 2 would have had to make the 53 if they didn't change the rule... or they would have been done for the season if they went on IR before being put on the 53.

You didn’t have to designate those guys prior to activating their practice participation previously.

Yes....as they don't have to designate anyone for return....until they want to.

The original rule when we grew up... IR meant done for the season.   If you had guys hurt and didn't put them on IR...then you were basically short handed.

This is a rule for player safety so teams don't play short handed or injured players... they allowed IR guys to return on a limited basis...but not ones that were put on IR before they officially made the final roster.

Feels like I’ve seen the world growth happen in basketball during my life.

Anyone placed on IR last week ...was done for the season

Anyone this week can come back... they can be " designated to return "  they have to be designated...to return to practice... with the idea of safety, not jump right into a game... but if they practice for 21 days after designation, if they aren't put on the roster,  they are done..

And it counts as one of your designated attempts to have a player return.

"Such designation must be reported at the time of the Reserve List placement and will count against the Club's maximum number of designations.” NFL Rules

why would the rules say this …if you didn’t have to do this?

That’s not what it said right there in the rule book

Ok...so we know we can have 8 instances of guys returning from IR... 10 if we make the playoffs.

You find me the limit of how many guys can be placed on IR?

Then find me the limit of guys that can be placed on IR....8 is the # of returns...10 for playoffs... if it's the same guy...he goes on the IR a 3rd time he is done.

So if we trade Bradberry,  A Smith, the TE.... then we only have 5 more guys we can call back from IR?

Aiyuck signed with the Niners. Being reported he’s accepting the agreement that’s been on the table since early August. Which just goes to show there is always the player side of negotiations. This player didn’t sign…and didn’t sign…but then eventually signed the same offer. But he could have held out and stuck with his guns to not sign.

I don’t think there is a limit for how many can be placed on IR. You can only designate 8 to return though. Yes also you get two additional if your team makes the playoffs.

Lol...he wasn't offered this money originally.
