Yes also you get two additional if your team makes the playoffs. I believe you are correct... However there is a catch here and I see what they are trying to accomplish. Before the two 2024 rule changes... there was 8 total " designated to return " Now they added 2 at cutdown day....and allowing 2 more once the playoffs start. So if we have 10 guys on the list ...only 8 can be used during the regular season. So this is where it was a little confusing.... my next post.

Yes August.... after their original low ball offer...they should have locked him up last year. He is 2020 draft right? Good article by Jim Florio where they messed up...even just the spring. They could have had him for $27 mil per.

If I can only put 8 guys on this " designated to return list during the season" that means I could put 2 additional guys DURING the playoffs on this list. If IR means you have to miss 4 weeks.. what is the advantage of putting these guys on a list that is eligible to return ... they wouldn't be able to return in time anyway? So I can put a guy on IR for the Championship game, but bring him back for the SB? Makes no sense? Much easier rule.... one IR list... but you can take 8 guys off of that list a year, with 2 extra thst can come off during the playoffs.. Not put to more on with the playoffs only being 4 weeks????

I'm just trying to see if you can make sense of this???? t Most of the rules remain the same. Once a player is placed on the list, they must miss at least four of the team’s games. While on IR, they are not counted on the team’s active roster — although their compensation is still counted against the salary cap. After four games, a player may be designated to return, which opens a 21-day window during which they can attend practices but are still not counted on the active roster. If they are not activated to the roster during this period, they must remain on IR for the rest of the season. While each player may be designated for return twice a season, a team is allowed just eight returns from IR during the regular season. In the latest adjustment to the rule, a team appearing in the postseason will be allowed 10 returns that year. This is what I mean .... it makes it sound like 2 more can return... 1. does that mean guys that were on the other list are no longer done for the season? 2. They waive the 4 game minimum for NEW guys placed on that list? This is where it's confusing? According to logic, I would have been right, but it did say that the player had to be put on one of those lists? Weird!
August 30, 20242 yr 4 minutes ago, cunninghamtheman said: Yeah because it clearly stated if you haven’t used any of your activations…you could activate ten guys for the playoffs. Right... but it also said (YOU WERE CORRECT) ... at least from what I read too.... that a player needs to be designated to that specific " return" list ... And you could only designate 8 of those guys during the regular season. So can't be two more new designations.... if they need to start 4 games at playoff time. I assume it means if we put a guy on season ending IR now, then he can be switched to the designated return list, as long as he sat out 4 games? It's vague.... and it's not the only NFL rule that is like that. They need to improve their language to make it easier to understand.
August 30, 20242 yr But that would be weird...imagine a dude put on IR... season ending IR... and then your team makes the playoffs on a last second play... then what? you thought your season was over for months... but now you can come back? It's odd?

It’s a combination from somebodies own take on it. You activate a guys practice window …is what you do to take them off IR….you don’t designate them to return.

One being done for the season... and 2 being you can return. I always assumed it was one list, but the players specific situation of the timing was what made them eligible to return or not, The old days was simple... a guy on IR was just done for the season.

He’s only reported "return to practice.” He gets three weeks to practice before they officially have to roster him or lose him for the season. As soon as he’s activated he’s placed on the 53 and a corresponding player must come off it.
August 30, 20242 yr So no…don’t have to comply with the 53 man limit according to Return to Practice.

Do you think they would be in a situation where they could only have 5 more guys go on an IR and be able to return? We gotta be missing something? The TE makes no sense really if it takes up a spot? In the sense of taking up a spot unless its a return to the roster.

Rosie really has been pumping this guy that still hasn’t done anything. He has tremendous athleticism with his size. But at some point you gotta actually become a football player.

Even if you go on the Eagles site and look at the roster...it has all the IR guys listed... first Bradberry, then 3 other guys... then the TE and A Smith. You would figure if it were 2 different designations or whatever, that the would be listed as such or at least group those 3 together?

That's why to me it just made sense that you have a max number of returns... not that you have to designate it as you put them on IR? A guy is on IR, he sits out 4 weeks... from there I shouldn't have to know for sure if he is coming back.
August 30, 20242 yr Yeah I was trying to figure out why you’d have to designate to return before placing on any of the lists? I’m guess it’s just a safe guard keeping teams from abusing the IR.

Well you don’t know he’s for sure coming back until after he’s been activated..from being activated for practice. That’s when the timer turns on.
