I had a basset that looked just like this as a kid. He was a tough **** that wouldn’t let go. At the end, he was nearly blind from cataracts and was totally deaf. His sense of smell was the only thing that kept him going. Ended up living to 15 if you can believe it.

That is why I got him. I've had beagles all of  my adult life and hunted rabbits as well as pheasants, grouse, and woodcocks over them. We trained and hunted with him for a few years but I couldn't break him of trailing things like deer and raccoons , so he just became a house pet and then I lost the desire to hunt small game.

Now I do not own any pets and plan to stay that way (never know but that's the plan). Too hard on me when they pass and honestly who knows the next one might outlive me which could cause issues to those (family) that survive me.

It was Rocky or Donovan McBeagle when I got him. Rocky seemed easier to yell when you are chasing him down if he is trailing a deer. Very bad to let beagles trail a deer, you might never get them back.

I understand the issue of your pets outliving you. We've set aside funds in our wills to cover that and have a friend who's willing to take them in, should it come to that. There's more set aside for the cats than for certain scumball relatives.

I have a beagle/jack rusell mix....the beagle nose is something like I've never seen with other dogs I've owned....they're oblivious to anything around them once they pick up a scent

The Phillies were dumb not to address the pen more in the off season, but Wheeler was an excellent signing so far despite all the moaning at the time.
