Last night we watched players predicted pre draft as going Day3. Why are you so anxious to trade assets for what is left?

I wish i had the video but saw it on twitter. was an insider talking about rounds 4-7 now vs. years past. in years past before NIL kids came out in those rounds cause of the money and it was guaranteed to them. Now over the last couple years more kids are going back to school cause the NIL is better money and more guaranteed for them taking a chance and then going rounds 4-7.

Think a 5th and Ringo gets you into the upper part of the 4th?

Ringo doesn’t have any value other than as a gunner - I don’t see it.

Calculator was our F type - but he was basically ignored as pass catcher (what he could do well) and used as a blocker in 12 personnel… which aside from split zone where he just needs to get in the way of the backside DE was an utter failure. If they use Stowers in the same exact way, it will be underwhelming.

Yeah you want stowers out in space as a receiver. Could see wham Blocks for him but his technique sucks. Puts his head down and lunges…that can potentially be taught/fixed

Two very different players/roles

But i would rather have taken the toledo safety or OL and added delp

Caveat that with that i dont yet understand what the scheme will really look like on offense. We havent really used an F type in recent history have we?

That's certainly a big question. The writing is on the wall about change though. The WR and TE picks are apparent of the new coaches input and what they plan to do. We expected them to install the new offense and see this year who can execute it and who can't. That includes anyone including QB, O lineman, whoever. This year's reports from OTAs and camp will be interesting getting the first glimpses of the new offense, and reaction comments from players about how it's going. I think sometimes we forget that the change at OC is arguably the biggest move of the offseason.

When we traded the 4s to get Lemon I thought we were going to miss out on a decent TE2 who could block in that range. Turns out the board has been picked clean. I think teams saw what McVay did with heavy personnel and will try to copy it. There’s no other reason why so many guys projected as backup TEs went late in round 2 and throughout round 3.

saw a short last night that credits some blocking TE in Seattle for the early selections of the blocking TEs. Which probably makes more sense since they were super bowl champs so teams will be trying to copy.

However, even the best well rounded guys like Klare, Delp, and Raridon are off the board before round 4 also.

That leaves you with Raridon as a top candidate and that is it. There is also Joly but hes more of the Stowes type that we didnt really expect.

Seems a lot of people liked Delp at TE. Would you have preferred him and taken someone else in the 2nd? Or is Stowers a better TE despite the lack of blocking?

Personally I would have taken Delp because I really value blocking from a TE. The tradeoff here is he’s coming off an injury and isn’t as dynamic of an athlete.

Part of that though is me still thinking through the lenses of our old offense.

One thing about Lurie and the eagles: when they commit to change they go all in. Andy Reid was given full control over personnel. Chip Kelly was given license to blow up everything from training to a roster of pro bowlers.

We brought in an OC who has a system he wants to run but didn’t have many of the skill players to run it. Delp is a better TE for most schemes, but for this offense Stowers is a better fit.

My worry for Stowers is that he is truly one dimensional. For this guy to be a big success, he needs to get a high volume of targets and make a big impact as a receiver, because otherwise he isn’t going to give you much.

It’s also why I think Hurts is gone. Unless he radically changes his game, Hurts is the antithesis of what this scheme wants from a QB. I hope the guy proves me wrong because I’m not some mindless hater, but as of now we will be asking Hurts to do things for which he has shown no propensity.

That’s a recipe for teams to treat him as a WR and assign a big nickel on him. While he’ll probably always have limited value as a blocker physically, technically you want him to improve so that he stalk and crack rather than ole’.

I shared a tweet last night that said that was their plan as well.

At least wheeler is on the mound. Although might be more devastating if he doesn’t look like wheeler of previous years.

Pretty sure this is what you’re referring to:

As an aside, I think the Eagles are gonna use Lemon on the outside more than people realize.

Are we absolutely certain Stowers is a TE?

That’s gonna go great

The value of our picks, and sequencing feels very messed up. We all did our own mock simulations and better addressed needs with players we liked. It feels like we could have done it better. But, we got what we got. There are questions on utilization, but the are exciting pieces so.... we will just have to see how it works out.

This is the first draft in a while that Im not completely giddy over. But I expected it as I paid attention to the 30 visits and noticed most guys werent my preference.

Bell is almost too big for the NFL. That man is a lump. If drafting him at 3 means this is the last year of Fred Johnson as the swing tackle, then not the end of the world at all.

Funny thing is, on X is lots of fans complaining about the Eagles getting away with it again

Well, they added the best receiving TE, a Pro Bowl OLB, the second best WR in the draft and a one year learning project with traits that cannot be taught at OL and is young. Note they also have at least a back up RS in Lemon at this point. Howie is right, Wicks is part of this draft too.

No.

I really wanted EMW there. Thought he matched well with Makuba- EMW plays closer to the LOS and Makuba center field. Loved that idea. Then was thinking draft a blocking TE. But Eagles are completely changing the offense and I see how Stowers fits.

Just now, eagle45 said:

Well, he’s a hybrid. Not a traditional inline TE, but a H-back, flex TE type. Expect him to be lined up off the LOS a lot, used in motion a lot, used in bunch formations a lot, etc.

We are going all in on a high passing volume finesse offense. He fits that mold. I think next season when Goedert is gone we will look to bring in a TE2 who is a bigger, more well rounded inline TE.

But our days of having a big, rugged TE on the field all at nearly all times is over.

32 minutes ago, Waiting4Someday said:

I like Lemon and Stowers in isolation, but together they seem to be competing for slot snaps. Bell has upside as a pass protector, and he moves well for his size but he doesn’t move well for the position. When I correlate these selections together, I see the movement to an high volume passing offense without much emphasis on the run (let alone OZ).

makes me wonder if we arent just going to be spreading the field a lot. Pass blocking OT who struggles to get out and hit targets in space in the run game.... 5 new pass catchers added this offseason....

No major focus on TE blocking except for the Mundt signing. Every other TE is more of a receiver. Goedert is pretty well rounded despite his blocking decline last year, but hes not here long term. So its really a depth chart of pass catching TEs and Mundt.

There is no clear focus on OZ linemen, and big sets with blocking TEs like everyone talked about since Mannion was hired.

Its more like we are going air raid or something.... and the eagles visited with Behren Morton from Texas Tech....so...thats another hint at pass heavy system.

If the whole league is shifting to off coverage and away from press man, it does lessen the value of that X skillset.

While we all love Stoutland, the sentiment on here that he is the only/best guy who can coach Oline is ridiculous. Not saying Kuper will be as good, but also he may be. 8 years playing G in Denver after being a 5th round pick, started 79 games, made pro bowl, became 2nd highest paid offensive lineman lin Broncos history in 2010, coaching in pros since 2016, last 4 as Oline coach. Hopefully we get him as he is hitting his prime.

Don’t discount that they retained Austin as assistant OL coach.

One thing this draft reinforced is teams will always err on the side of caution when it comes to injury. It's why I never believed the stuff about Chris Bell going top of round 2 or Jermod McCoy being a 1st rounder.

Next year there will be some really talented guy coming off an injury and leading up to the draft pundits will try to sell everyone him going higher than expected and he won't. He'll fall just like all injured guys do.
