That’s not true at least with McVay. He wants an X who can win in isolation and against press. That’s why he went out of his way to get Odell Beckham and Allen Robinson and pushed out an aging slot like Cooper Kupp for Davante Adams.

The Shanahan offense was also at his best with Aiyuk as the back-side X as well. Without him, they're still good but not the 2023 death star.

Devonta can beat press, but he's not automatic against it.

Yeah, I think earlier on McVay probably fit my description better, but he's changed his philosophy. Idk if better QB play has a bigger impact here, going from Goff to Stafford can definitely change the way you make the offense go.

McVay has been fascinating to watch. He used to be in 11 personnel, condensed splits. Then he got away from that for more spacing with a traditional X. Now he’s using 13 personnel and playing bully ball with Terrance Ferguson as his shot play vertical player.

Can Lemon be more than a slot receiver, can Stowers be more than F type? These guys aren’t all 6’2”, 210lb and fast. If anything they appear to be specialized, not interchangeable.

I think you will see Lemon using motion a lot. Howie talked about his ability to play on the outside, I imagine we will see quite a few times him lining up in the slot and motioning out wide, running across the formation on a high cross or taking a handoff on a jet sweep.

Stowers is interesting because you can use both 11 and 12 personnel with him with the same group. He's going to easily beat the LB covering him, and if they move a safety on him, that opens up the run game.

RE: Stowers as a blocker.

He WILL get better at this. Vanderbilt is an SEC school, but it's not a SEC-level weight/fitness program. He's big enough to add 10lbs to his frame. He's smart as heck for the position, but make lack the aggression. This does get better over time. Brent Celek wasn't a good blocker coming out and he got a little better every year until he was quite good at it. It's an effort thing.

If teams match Stowers with a CB, then his run blocking no longer is an issue. Teams used to do this with Ertz all the time. Like Zach, I expect Stowers to get open against CBs by year 2 because of his profile. Look at this numbers if he were a WR. He's more than athletic enough. A

And if teams want to match him against LBs, yes it's bad in the run game but good luck in the passing game.

I think the NFC East had good drafts unfortunately.

He has elite explosiveness - what teams look for in O linemen. Add some upper body strength and have an NFL coach teach him techniques. He'll be fine.

For tight ends it's not winning the block, but rather losing very slowly.

My metaphor, this draft sucked and they did the best they could

I’m going to disagree with this a little bit. Yes, he will improve as a blocker, but I don’t think he will ever be even an average blocker as a TE. He can get stronger, but I don’t think he will get much bigger. He may be tall, but his frame really is not that of a guy who can get to 250+ pounds. He’s long, not big. If you watch him try to block, he looks like a child trying to walk for the first time. Yes, he will get a little stronger and improve his technique, but this is a guy who simply doesn’t have "it.” Aggression aside, he’s just not comfortable with being physical.

I think we need to just be honest with ourselves about what he is and isn’t. What he is, is a tremendous mismatch as a receiver. I could see this kid being a thousand yard receiver. I can see this kid having double digit TD catches. But he’s so bad as a run blocker that Vanderbilt took him off the field most run plays. He’s a finesse receiver, and a good one. Use him as such. Don’t hope to try to make him into something that he’s not.

Eagles will probably trade for a safety. The two names most whispered in trade talks have been Grant Delpit and Justin Reid. I'll be honest I don't love giving up picks for short term replacements, I'd hope it could be a player swap.

I know it's early to say, but you think he makes the roster? I'd love to see Calcaterra cut. If this guy works out along with Mundt, Stowers and Goedert it's a revamped TE room.

No idea. Hes explosive but very linear. So he will be limited in a traditional Y type role if thats their plan. However the Eagles are leaning in to their newly perceived ability to scheme open so, this guy's RAC ability would be great if that's happening. He will have to beat out Calculator. Id guess hes going to have to show much improvement in his blocking ability throughout camp to do so.

Has Pavia still not been picked up yet? I get he’s not an ideal prospect but this feels intentionally disrespectful

Jets I believe for 330k.

The quote doesnt seem to match Zach's statement. The quote seems to be Howie making sure the player fit.

I like getting Woodson from new England in the AJ Brown trade.

Saw some rumblings about that on social media yesterday. I forget where.

Baker, Bates then Delpit, Reid.

There's one last obvious missing piece to this team and to finish off a championship defense. I hope they don't pull the, "we're fine there" motif and do not much else there besides scraps. Hearing Howies post draft presser, he made it seem like they like their room, hopefully it's just trade posturing there.

This was a good DB draft overall, disappointing they did zero in the draft. There were a slew of corners to stick behind Riq to develop. A bunch of safeties you could have added to the room later in the draft. Oh well

Id take him and Boutte even though itll lessen our draft comp. Wonder what picks we could still get.

I do think we need to load up on picks next year cause its either gonna need to be a big move for a QB or an OT. And youre still gonna need ammo for a high pick at CB2 since we didnt address that this weekend.

My question is, with the Greenard signing, and impending cap hit from an AJ trade, how much money do we actually have left for acquisitions now, and in the season?

You probably NEED to go for Woodson for his rookie contract.

So who drafted safeties this weekend and might have vets available to us?

People say that a lot in recent years. Easier to do when you're picking in the top 10 because you suck. And traded away a stud DT for a high pick.

Years and years of "the NFCE got better" and yet:
