I was told signing Epps was impossible.

Laughable strawman, NOBODY said that.

Marcus Epps resigned, @T-1000 smiles?

See my post above. This was a low key great set of moves from Howie tonight.

Also, thank God we don't have to listen to that moron EJ Smith and other morons parrot him with the "Michael Carter might be a starting safety for this team" nonsense. Dude is 5'10 185 and would be a terrible pair with a 5'11 190 pound Drew Mukuba. Oh, and not to mention he is 27 years old entering his 6th NFL season and has zero experience as a starting safety. People might want to stop getting their football news and views from a guy who thinks its funny to try to do an entire football podcast in an Irish accent.

LOL I did. I've always wanted him back. If the D Coaches likes him, then I like him. groovy

Scrolling up is generally frowned upon, but I’ll make an exception.

Yeah, guys, just scroll up. It's easy and free!

The moves Howie just made are low key really good and the types of wins on the margin that can make a difference. First he trades Sydney Brown who absolutely sucks and moves up 8 spots in the 4th round, and 18 in the 6th round. Getting anything of value for him is good enough. Moving up in the 4th and 6th is just an added bonus. Then Howie goes out and signs a guy in JT Grey who is a depth safety who excels on special teams. Essentially they got another Sydney Brown and moved up in the 4th and 6th for free.

Lastly, he finally brings back Marcus Epps which I have been waiting for him to do for over a week. I said it hen Blankenship left and I will say it again: Epps isn't much of a downgrade at all from Reed and I haven't seen contract details but I am assuming he will be much cheaper.

So the end result is you swap out Blankenship for Epps (which is pretty much a wash) and save a bunch of cap space, replace Sydney Brown with an older Sydney Brown, and move up in the 4th and 6th rounds. I call it like I see it and this is excellent work by Howie. I still hope they draft a safety somewhere in the 2nd-4th round range but they should be decent enough at safety especially with the three corners they have.

Now Howie has to keep the momentum going and get that legit edge rusher and sign a veteran OL or two with starting experience and things are starting to look up. Still work to be done for sure but today was real progress.

He will do nothing else until the draft just to spite you.

Well, I was making a joke.

If Ioane was super athletic, sure trade up. But you can have Bisontis by not trading up, and there are guards in this draft. Theres just not OTs. Dont get desperate.

I like Pregnon from Oregon at guard too.

Let’s say we made almost the exact same trade to move out Kelee Ringo. How would folks feel about that?

JT Gray former ST all-pro, like it.

I always hated how we would carry 4 safeties, and only 3 could actually play while the 4th was a pure special teamer. So, I hate it. Hopefully he ends up on the PS not the actual roster.

I think they view Carter as counting for both so we'll carry 10 DBs - 5 CBs, 4 Safeties, and Carter

It's not just EJ saying that.

I dont doubt that carter may be viewed that way. But until he actually plays there for us, and plays well its a very madden like projection that I think a lot of people are too sure on.

They had better be drafting a starting quality safety in the first 3 rounds of this draft. Epps, and Carter should be backups. Epps can play STs. JT Whoever is going to really have to earn a ST only spot.

Conversely, you can develop a guy on the PS and JT can be ST baller.

Also, we have Coop, the in-game contingency for all positions.

I LOVE the safety moves we made today. Basically swapped Brown, our ST only backup safety, for JT Gray, a ST only S who’s a 3 time All Pro. Brought back Epps who’s still a decent player and an okay floor. Got some draft pick value for Brown, which surprised the hell out of me. Good day at the office.

JT Gray bounced around 3 different Practice Squads last year. It's a fine dart throw to see what he has but he seems he's more of a camp body than anything.

I also hate how Coops name is always brought up as a possibility at other positions. Hes a nickel. Hes best utilized at the nickel. Fangio wants him to remain at nickel. I dont believe the eagles ever want to have a scenario where they feel they need to move him to safety.

I’m fine the Eagles trying Michael Carter at safety. I’m not fine if they make him a starter. If they did that’s pure arrogance or something went horribly wrong in the draft

He's likely going to be S in base

If he is, then their plan likely failed. They should have a real safety out of this draft.

Playing him at S in "base" only became a thought last year because of injuries at the position.

Anyway, the base thing is only slightly annoying because our true base is nickel anyway, in which case he will not be at safety.

The base will be Q, Riq, Coop and Mukuba. In nickel, Coop goes to nickel and someone wins the safety job next to Mukuba. Carter and Epps will be in the mix with a rookie.

Remember - we traded for CJGJ at the end of camp in 2022. So there are always options. Hopefully a draft pick steps up.

I think the Cowboys game last year exposed that DeJean can't really play on the outside. If anything in base, he should play one of the LB positions. Really F with the offense's head from there.
