Yep. Same thing at AT&T here in Dallas…Dallas Stadium is what they’ve named it for the WC. They covered the AT&T logo on the roof as well. It’s a FIFA corporate sponsorship thing. If the current stadium sponsor is not FIFA partner/sponsor they have temporarily renamed the stadiums.

I don’t know whether I should be offended by the Beats reading the Blog and stealing from us or validated by Beats publishing our observations. Maybe they should monetize us for what they use.

Comparing an undersized underwhelming 7th round edge to a fresh undersized underwhelming 7th round edge is a comp that more than one person is going to realize.

FIFA are a wild organisation. They pimped themselves out to Russia and Qatar for the last 2 world cups - the last WC was a soulless corporate tournament mired in a massive bribery and bung plot - added more teams in this one, lowering the quality of the tournament significantly, raised ticket prices to laughable levels but then make someone spend hours and hours covering other sponsor logos.

I don't know much about soccer, nor do I follow it, but I am enjoying America hosting the WC. As a casual observer, it's really noteworthy the impact the expansion has had on the tournament. Makes the group stage feel like preseason. It feels like the real tournament doesn't even begin until the knockout round. Some heartwarming ties, but who has been the best underdog in any match so far? My point is that we are 40 matches into the world cup and I'm not sure 2 good teams have actually played each other yet.

Having the tournament in a country with a deep and wide sporting cultures has been a big plus. It looks to be fun for fans who are there.

Agree on quality. The best ranked game, I guess, was England vs Croatia. Did Curacao beat someone? I've seen bits of games where I look at the lack of basics and wonder how that team qualified and a team like Italy is at home - average by European standards but better than Haiti or Cape Verde.

Given the lull in the American sports schedule... I'm glad to watch something for free and in my time zone that is highly significant to the rest the world and relatively commercial free (comparatively). If the NFL could play games in 2hrs, the players could be adorned like NASCAR drivers for all I'd care.

I guess now that water breaks are being socialized, you'll have to look forward to that soon in regular play...

I genuinely can't think of any organization I disdain more, whose product I really enjoy than FIFA. The world cup is such an amazing event that brings the world together in way nothing else can, and yet it's run by comically corrupt narcissists. Like cartoon villain levels of scumbaggery. It's wild.

Been having a blast with the Scottish fans up here. Good bunch.

It may not have made the news out there, but there has been a lot of booing in stadiums about the water breaks and how badly timed they are . Knowing FIFA, they'd mute the crowd when it happened to make it appear ok, but its not been universally popular with the in stadia foks. At games I go to, the crowd would be as vocal about it.

Infantino somewhat cleaned FIFA up after taking over from Sepp Blatter, but they are still a less than honest broker. Just less obvious about the machinations of power. He only left out 2021 as a full time starter. It's still a pretty good stat. Why are his good stats ignore or minimized? Best stats: since 2021 3rd in league with 56 wins. Plus 2 SBs.
