June 23Jun 23 Im not even sure what the point is to sign Carter immediately. He’s not signing for a discount and you aren’t really signing a guy with untapped potential for cheaper. I basically see it as you sign him today to be the richest DT while taking on the risk of maturity or injury issues. Or you make him prove for another year the injury concerns are fine and he is mature enough to handle a prove it year. In the end it’s going to be basically the same deal, maybe slightly more. But it’s DT, this isn’t a QB/WR/Edge where new guys reset the market every month.

June 23Jun 23 Eagles thought they would save money by paying Cam Jurgens last offseason. Should have treated him like they did Dean. See if he was fully back and then pay him. Wouldn't be much of a difference. Think there's a lesson to learn from that. Carter has had 1 great year. In a great defensive tackle room with Milt Williams, JD and MO. Sign him next offseason if he kills it. For now, you keep optionality with MO and others. Once you sign JC, you are locked in to pretty much only signing Cooper and Q. And maybe Jalyx (could be out of range with a great year this year). Still have Hurts, Devanta and Mailata with huge contract extensions coming up as well. And Steen is probably gone next offseason for sure with a JC signing. This should be a show me year for this entire roster.

I'd say it's a flip of a coin and not that obvious and certain that he does. He should be a value early signing at this point or nothing. For now. Eagles have good leverage here because they have MO at DT that they can pay for maybe half as much. Very tempting.

Probably more than any other position. Even some HOF DTs took until year 3 or 4 to break out.I'd be willing to guess that Jalen Carter's first two years in the NFL are in the 99th percentile of first two years of all NFL DTs who've ever played, and year 3 I give a pass because he was playing injured the whole season. Two shoulder injuries would be crippling for a DT. The arms of a DT are everything. The guy is a generational talent who has started his career on a HOF trajectory.
