If the guy goes out and gets 10 sacks and is in DPOY discussion then I think it would be definitely higher. The thing is, whatever perceived questions of maturity there are, which I think are largely overstated, those will not go away in a year either. The one thing would be if there are questions about his shoulders, but from what I understand there are none within the Eagles.I think the maturity thing is a bit overstated but he did have the spitting thing and a few sideline moments. Having him play another year on his rookie contract might create a situation that tests him in a way. If he doesn’t mope around, comes in shape and plays great, then it’s worth the little extra. But if he lets his contract situation get to him and affect him on field or in the locker room, then it might cause some hesitation to make him the highest paid DT in the league.

Probably more than any other position. Even some HOF DTs took until year 3 or 4 to break out.I'd be willing to guess that Jalen Carter's first two years in the NFL are in the 99th percentile of first two years of all NFL DTs who've ever played, and year 3 I give a pass because he was playing injured the whole season. Two shoulder injuries would be crippling for a DT. The arms of a DT are everything. The guy is a generational talent who has started his career on a HOF trajectory. That's why he has no contract right now. Giving a huge contract to a guy coming off a season where had had shoulder issues all year would be unwise, because if it ends up being a chronic issue you just paid a premium for damaged goods.

I think Makuba is still an unknown. Vic also at one point said something along the lines of Blankenship masking a lot of mistakes by Makuba.I think it’s a stretch but you could also say pass rush isn’t good enough. Greenard has his own injury issues and had two really good years but was up and down other than that. They have depth but it could be like last year if Greenard struggles.

And I believe Fangio said this too.And Fangio is a straight shooter, if Carter's shoulders were an issue he'd have said it he wouldn't have held back. That doesn't mean that it can't crop up again, but I don't recall any long term shoulder medical red flags with him coming into the draft, so until proven otherwise I'm just going to assume it was a one year injury that eventually healed.

You are making him the highest paid now or making him the highest paid later. And like I said, DT is a position that doesn’t top itself at the pace other positions do. Simmons just set the market and the only guy that will come close soon is Quinnen Williams. I think you pay more, I just don’t think it’s a situation of getting ahead of the market and paying way more.
June 23Jun 23 He wasn't going to get taken anyway aside from all the fake news about teams using a 2nd on him. I suspect the NFL getting intel that he wasn't gonna get taken led to this.

Then his first year as a starter when he took the Eagles to the playoffs after they went 4-11-1 the year before? You Hurts Haters just continue to be the biggest losers around.Insulting someone doesn’t make your position any less ridiculous. It’s revisionist to suggest he "took” them to the playoffs his first year as a starter. They changed the offense to more of a run focused attack in 2021 after the pass game was struggling early in the season. That coupled with the fact that in the second half they faced a ton of tomato can QB’s. They needed all of that to barely get in and then look outmatched in Tampa. He’s had good-great games. He’s had good-great stretches. He’s had good seasons. He’s a winner. But crediting him with taking them to the postseason in 2021 is just being disingenuous.

It's not the worst thing for him. If he can keep his nose clean for a year (if), it shows a degree of recovery from addiction, he can attend some QB academies, hire a QB whisperer to further develop, run his own Pro Day and still be relevant next April.Nick Bosa barely took the field in his final college season and still got drafted #2 overall. Talent paints over a lot of things in the NFL, and the guy has quite a bit of talent.

A night and day difference from the horrible QB play we were stuck with from Wentz the season before. But it’s not actually. The rushing attack and defense took them to the postseason. Their schedule didn’t hurt. After going 2-5 they made the switch to a more rush based attack. The remaining 10 games they eclipsed 200 yards passing only 4 times. Yet the rushing attack went off. Going over 200 yards rushing in 5 of those games. The previous 7 games when they were 2-5, their rushing high was 173 in week 1. Other than that they had a 4 game stretch where they ignored the run and rushed for 64, 103, 91, 100 yards total. Sure Jalen contributed to the rushing attack taking over. But don’t act like he lead them because of his passing. Because he didn’t. You seem to have some personal feelings wrapped up into this. Either hatred for Wentz or something else. But rewriting history doesn’t make it so, regardless of your motivation. Wait….were you really a fan of Koy Detmer’s or is it the comedian? Maybe your opinion of QB play or sports in general is askew? No offense.

I know this is a discussion board but man, some of the discussions on here are like teen girls fighting over a boy.
June 23Jun 23 Carter is a good talent. The team drifted him when there were reports of problems. He played well since joined the team. Yes, there were behavior issues and injuries. I think the FO will have problems to let a talent like that to leave. My guess is that they tell him to clean up his acts and play well, then a deal is done during the season.

No offense. There's no use. His blind love for this man knows no bounds, despite the fact that he threw for less than 200 yards in 10 games last season (including playoff game) despite having the best weapons in football. I don't even understand how that is possible, even with the banged up o-line and Patullo calling plays. Hurts could average 50 yards/game passing in this new offense and he will come up with some asinine reason as to how it's everyone else's fault.

I don’t doubt Howie considered trading him for better players, but like Adams with the rams if that doesn’t work out it doesn’t mean the player is now worthless to you. Heck we almost traded Hurts once upon a time
