The issue would be Vrabel's - if there were proof he asked her to put out false info in an attempt to chill the trade market. Intent matters.

The more intriguing part of this is - Russini basically has nothing left to lose. She can never credibly report on the NFL again for a real organization. So, at what point does she go scorched earth/scorned woman and sit down for a tell all interview. There are rumors of others (Washington GM, McVay). Her doing some kind of tell all interview right before the season is a nightmare scenario for the NFL.

True but bidders don’t know who are making competitive bids nor what those are and I suspect the media is viewed as a source of that information.

That's what every GM does. How can you prove they were actually willing to give up a first but told a reporter they think he is worth a 2nd? The whole point is to make the trade in your favor. Unless it was complete fabrication like DeSean Jackson had gang ties and is borderline ground for libel, I don't see how you can prove it. Likewise, a GM trading a player always puts out false info about teams involved to heat the trade market. Like why the Eagles are in every trade rumor or the "Howie is hot for Garrett" rumors.

You’re 100 percent right here. Reporting on AJB and his unhappiness has no impact on his value. If Vrabel tampered with AJ, leading him to request a trade, put in a half arsed effort or say he wouldn’t want to play for certain teams in order to force his way to NE, that would affect his trade value.

If Vrabel specifically told her to put out false info in an attempt to chill the market, the NFL will have an issue with it. In that scenario, both parties know the info is false and being put out for false reasons.

If Howie told her Minnesota had multiple offers of a 1st for Greenard, and she put that out, it would be scummy but since she wasn't working with Howie to put out false info, it's buyer beware.

The issue would be proving both sides had corrupt intent, which is very difficult.

In general, sure. I'm talking specifically about the Julio story. We hear reports all the time of "X team is interested but the price remains to be too high for their liking". That's team X's attempt to chill the trade market and get the price down. I don't see how that's any different than "Do you want to trade a 1st for Julio Jones?" "No, not really". "It's a long shot Titans trade a 1st for Julio Jones." I also don't see why the NFL would ever care about a players trade market being hot or cold.

Ah. We'll I kind of agree with you there. If he put out his knees are bone on bone or something completely false to scare off teams, that's a problem. But if they are just undervaluing the player publicly through reports, that's basically how negotiations work.

Tbh i don’t think that’s just a russini thing. I think reporters have ins and will put things out from sources in return to get a juicy story or favor down the road. Frankly russini is the only one who’s gotten caught red handed with literally having her pants down lol

I think GMs can call other teams to see what they are being offered. What she reported, did not devalue the market. She says Atlanta claimed to have an offer of a first round pick and that the Titans were a long shot to get Julio. I doubt it was the Titans allegedly offering the 1st since Jones was traded with a 5th to the Titans for a 2nd and a 4th round picks. So, I don't see how the report devalued the market. Even if it did, it's not tampering because she doesn't work for an NFL team.

So a news article would scare a team off from checking in? These GMs understand how these access journalists work and are used. It really wouldn’t mean a thing. If a team had interest in Julio or AJ or whomever, they’d check in.
