Weru is a better athlete, so that is allowing him to flash a bit. Obviously still raw.

Bernard is further away. I usually never agree with IR for development since there are no reps, but since Bernard doesnt even know what an A gap is, he can definitely benefit from a year in the classroom. If he was at a football camp in Africa, they must have meant soccer.

I wouldnt go as far as saying Weru has to make the roster.

You have Greenard, Hunt, Smith, Epenesa, and Ebiketie.

Weru would be edge #6. Thats a lot considering as well that Graham is on speed dial, and their favorite player Taron Jackson is always available.

Eagles find a way to keep both Weru and Bernard. They trust Hurtt will develop these 2 and have to prepare for life with out Ojomo and Smith (in 2 years). Need some young guys waiting in the wings. And Hunt is gonna cost a fortune. Bernard probably goes on IR and Weru is rostered. Becomes even an easier decision, if Greenard is out first few weeks.

The guy who might replace Ojomo is Zion Wilson. Bernard wont be ready next year either.

Need Robinson and Young to take next steps. Gabe Hall also has played well. Zion Wilson is definitely showing up. Tougher cuts this year on both lines. Howie has recovered well after a subpar offseason last year in fortifying the lines.

Yeah, Bernard needs to work on the most basic fundamentals… I don’t think that is what the practice squad is even for. He’d be working by himself with some sort of remedial coach, so he might as well be on IR.

I suspect that Dalton gets waived with the idea of adding him to the PS. Payton makes the 53 and is activated for games as the third QB designee. But won’t play.

And if Hurts gets injured, McKee starts and Dalton gets activated off the PS for the actual games.

There’s no way that Payton can be anything this year.

There will probably be some minor trades coming too.

I’d IR Bernard, roster Weru until Greenard returns, cut Payton.

Unless Dalton gets traded for a similar return then they just gave up, he stays. Even though he stinks, he will serve as a mentor. Don't think Howie risks it and cuts him outright. Knows the system and will be valuable for that role as a QB3. Payton gets cut and will try to sneak him onto PS as developmental QB. Howie is gonna have to be very creative, with early season roster construction management especially, in sorting out both lines to keep the young talent in house.

Where are we at with S4 and CB5; didn’t seem to be a good night for the guys who were out there and a bunch of others didn’t even play.

The problem from what I have read is really schools/boosters that want to have a competitive edge, it's not just on the players. The judge that made the ruling to allow players to return is a Louisana judge. There were 16 players associated with an NFL team that planned to return to school last I read, with camp cuts looming that number will likely grow in the next couple of weeks. There is still money involved due to NIL so those players can come back to school, compete, get paid something, and improve their skills for another opportunity the following year in the NFL.

Who is losing out in this scenario? The younger college players. Their opportunities to compete are being reduced, unfairly imo. It is not as bad in football as it is in college basketball. At least in football there are 22 positions plus K/P, in basketball there are only 5 starting positions.

At it's core, the NCAA is responsible for the majority of the problem. If they weren't so greedy for so long and they had taken better care of student athletes financially there would be no NIL and money to throw around to bring players back.

Whatever happened to college eligibility being lost if you declared for the draft or signed with an agent? College sports is turning into a free for all with NIL, the transfer portal, and local judges making rulings based on their local colleges rosters needs/desires (at least that is the appearance from what I see). Coaches and ADs are put in crappy situation, win or get fired, if they protect the younger athletes by not signing an eliglible 5th year returning player they are less competitive and risk losing games or a championship.

At the end of the day college sports are no longer amateur sports, it's been that way for a while now...because of money. The end result is taking away what college sports were originally meant to represent. It's sad really. On the other hand people deserve opportunities to succeed, it's just freaking mess with no clear answer yet.

Here's the problem with the IR Bernard crowd. He actually has to be injured. The league has the right to evaluate a player put on IR to be sure it isn't some phony hangnail type deal. I'm sure there are fines, loss of a draft pick, etc. if the league finds out the injury is a phony.

I have to agree with Hazelton. I need to see Robinson against somebody other than 3rd string guys to be a believer. He was so bad last year I need better proof. Even if he is the 5th DT he won't be activated as I don't see why the Eagles need 5 DTs active.

Sounds legit - but I can’t think of a single example when a team has been punished for a fake IR designation. I think it’s because the player typically acquiesces.

Yep. It’s only an issue if the player makes a fuss. Eagles had like three guys last year on IR who they let practice but then just let their window to activate expire. There’s no way all of them were legit season ending injuries.

I can't either but don't want to research it. The league wouldn't investigate on its own. A team (say the Giants) contacts the league to investigate because they think the Eagles are trying to stash a player. That team would stay nameless.
