Blocking isn't the issue for Stowers. He could be horrendous as a blocker, if he was a dynamic pass catcher he'd find his way on the field. The reason he won't and isn't standing out at all so far is he's been bad as a receiving TE too. He was drafted as a "Convert who can't block but is a special pass catcher, he just needs to learn the position" but he hasn't shown the ability to get open or shake defenders. He's just not a smooth athlete. Don't see it with him, didn't see it in college, but we shall see in time.

Mukuba, Epps, Carter, and then 1 of Wis, or Gushiken is probably S4.

Heck, maybe they should keep 5 because Carter is probably our best bet at NB2 as well.

Dalton is a veteran and they are going to give him every opportunity to win that #2 spot. It's a smart move by the org/coaches, and these are the kinds of things that get players to want to come here. It's clear Dalton is losing the job, but they aren't going to put a 15 year vet behind McKee.

I forgot who, but someone earlier mentioned Cole Payton would be the emergency QB on game days and they can get Dalton to the PS. If somehow both Hurts and McKee can't play, Dalton would probably get elevated to be the starter over Payton. Either way, the team is pretty screwed if it gets that bad.

I’m not opposed to their approach to preseason games at all. But I’m sure as hell not going to take my time and watch it with that approach either.

Saw more of the scheme. Mannion did well calling plays from the booth. O line played well. Vanilla Gorilla showed up. The 2 international players made impressive plays. Trotter looked good. Dalton is washed.

Preseason is for backups these days. And coaching, game management, preparation.

Why not? You can watch guys like Bell, Lampkin, Kendall, Trotter, Weru, Bernard and others and form your own opinions rather than relying on the beats or people on this board.

Heard the first game sucked but watched a bit last night and learned a lot. That we have some backups who can play and may be called into duty this season. Some others who are headed for the PS. So feeling pretty good and the negative vibe that plagues some Eagles fans continues to be unfounded.

Lets say we keep DeJean on the roster as a S for some reason....

So safeties are DeJean, Mukuba, Epps, Carter

But DeJean gets injured, and Carter fills in at nickel.

Now you are down to 2 safeties on the depth chart- Epps, and Mukuba. And you have no backups. (by the way, both of those guys are injury prone too)

Calling that semantics does not help the dire situation the team will find itself in on the field.

You need to call DeJean what he is, the nickel, and keep at least one extra safety because of that.

Then, if Carter is the first man up at nickel in case of injury to DeJean, you may want to keep yet another safety because of that.

The depth chart should probably have S, and NB as different positions in order to make sure you have enough for each position. Semantics? Or just logical?

S- Mukuba, Epps, Wis, Gushiken

CB/S or NB (whatever you want to call it)- DeJean, Carter

CB- Mitchell, Woolen, Jones, Trash

The only value I ever saw in it was the option to trade McKee for a better return than they gave up for Dalton, but it seems McKee is destined to play out his contract with the Eagles at this point. I don’t like Dalton at all as a #2 and don’t see him putting any wins together if Hurts gets injured.

He’ll be cut at the end of camp and I’d frankly be a bit disappointed if he’s brought back to the PS.

Totally agree.

The depth chart needs to have the Base S / NCB listed separately. DeJean is the starter in that role. Carter is the backup.

Howie likes collecting QBs. He in the past acquired Flacco and Pickett as well, and also this year drafted one. To him, trading a late round pick isn't much if the QB works out, and he can acquire more late picks by trading back which he does often. I think he just wants security at the position with options.

I was off twitter for a while and went back and it’s the same Like needy people posting cheerleader stuff. I get the people who are trying to make money but to post stuff just to feed an insecurity seems sad to me. But I’m a different generation. Whatever works for you I suppose
