When it works out as well as it did in 2018 then you get some grace to keep doing it

I'm not arguing against bringing in QBs just explaining that it's Howie's MO.

Updated after two games. Significant changes in bold.

Lots of tough choices. Putting Covey and Underwood on the PS. Couldn't find room for Hall or Wilson at DT. Maybe they waive Calcaterra to save one. We are going to lose a couple guys next Monday through waivers.

I think Dalton is the 3rd QB if he doesn’t get traded. Payton is a practice squad player with low end QB2 potential imo.

Side note - that’s a blah roster. Looks like 10-11 wins of everyone stays healthy. Maybe 1 playoff win.

Saying he felt disrespected by the fans booing was a FU to the fans?

Browns naming him the starting QB after that PC is a F you to the fans. He is horrible and has been nothing but horrible since the Browns traded him and the. For him to throw a tantrum attacking the fans on top of it was disgraceful. I'm not sure if you are living under a rock but it has pissed off Browns fans tremendously and them naming him the starting QB on top of it has just thrown gasoline on top of it all.

Good point, but if he ends up on the Practice Squad and eventually back on the roster, that money isn’t actually lost. Howie will just shuffle it from one bucket to another.

Um...huh? You take the charge, then you need to resign Jake to a new contract. So it adds even more to the cap.

There's no shuffling - you just take the hit and then need to spend even more to either resign Jake or another kicker.

He was named the starting QB because of his contract. People thinking it would be different are delusional

Future Hall of Famer. LOL

Here's what I think makes sense with one last preseason game to go. Thoughts:

  • QB - OK, you can't win them all Howie. Dalton was a swing and a miss. Maybe he was here to help implement the system, but he simply can't play anymore and we aren't getting value in return. Sucks that his $1.5mm is guaranteed, but it is what it is. No one will claim him, so he can probably get to the PS if he is open to it (might just retire). McKee looked better this week, but it was a low bar.

  • RB - Shipley locked down RB3, and there's no reason to carry 4. As for FB, Steele and/or Latu can go to the PS.

  • WR - Feels like these 5 are basically locks. Covey to the PS as a punt returner for now. Moore if he can't get a job elsewhere to the PS.

  • TE - Top 3 seem to be written in ink. Latu to PS in order to make room for 11 OL and the international guys.

  • OL - I just can't cut any of these guys. Majors is just playing too well and too versatile. Our 2nd unit (Big Fred, Kendall, Lampkin, Majors and Bell) id very promising, and Morris was just drafted. Disappointing that Williams and Hinton haven't developed - would hope to get Williams to the PS.

  • DT - Robinson forcing his way on the 53, and I don't think you can expose Uar to waivers and let some bottom feeder team claim him. Unless there's an injury, he has to be on the 53.

  • Edge - I don't see Greenard starting the year on IR and missing the 1st 4 games. And Weru might be more likely to be claimed than Uar.

  • ILB - I have Campbell on the team mainly because Vic seems to love him. If he gets cut, maybe they keep McWilliams.

  • CB - Mac gets cut - I know some of the practice reports have been strong, but he has been ass in the games. Ringo stays for special teams. Carter's versatility let's you go with only 5.

  • S - Not sure any of the back end guys have done enough to get Wisnewski cut.

  • Spec - Underwood to PS

Guys - they guaranteed Jake's 2026 salary earlier in the offseason. He's not getting cut. Accept it.

Oh snap - looks like it is prostitution related:

Pretty interesting insight here into some of the data the teams are getting that show the benefits of joint practices and decreased injury over the first few weeks.

Eagles have been doing this for a few years now, once again showing they are ahead of the curve.

Make him ride the bench with his contract. He is doing nothing to help them win and now the organization has seriously offended the fans who now have every reason to not show up to games at all beyond the reasons they already had.

Curious how it correlates to having the right medical staff. We had a revolving door at one point not long ago

No real issues with this projection but I think you have to make room for one of Covey or Underwood. I understand the theory behind it but forcing yourself into having your PS call-ups practically be locks for the first month of the season seems like more of a hindrance than an advantage.

Yeah, I thought about that a lot, and I'm not sure if someone else can return punts. Feels like it comes down to Campbell, Majors and those 2 for 2 spots. Maybe they think Majors gets to the PS.

And maybe I'm too high on Majors, but he looked very good on Saturday.

I'm still thinking they may need to keep Calcaterra on the 53 or IR him for four games (he was on the injured list last week). He is the second best receiving TE on the team right now. He is also vested now, so maybe the release him and hide him in a motel for a week.

I don't want to consider a world where Calcaterra is on the 53.

They won't do it right now, but if he costs them games in the first half of the season I'd bet they bite that bullet. He never should have gotten that contract to begin with, and you can't let him kill a season in the name of saving money.

My guess is we'll have a new kicker after the bye

Mannion was a QB who played like 3 years ago, he's only been a coach 2 years. They have a QB coach. I don't think they brought in a backup veteran QB to teach. Howie just likes to collect backup QBs. He brought in Pickett, Flacco and others over the years.

Yeah I hear ya, but he usually would only acquire a vet like Dalton when there isn't a legit QB2 already on the roster. The only other explanation is that they internally aren't that confident in McKee and wanted to give him competition. If they didn't draft Cole Payton, I could have viewed the Dalton thing as either him or McKee would have been the #3 (which still would have been somewhat surprising given Dalton's vet status and McKee's status as the #2 last year). But they then drafted Payton in the 5th round which means they likely will not want to cut him unless he's "that bad" in TC. One of McKee or Dalton will be gone. And if it's Dalton, they just threw away a 7th round pick. If they keep Dalton, that will make for a really uninspiring backup that I'd doubt could keep the season alive if Hurts missed time.

I'm just saying I didn't understand the move for Dalton even though I realize Howie puts an emphasis on the backup QB position.
