Back in the Early 80s when I was working on user manuals for my company’s computer software offerings, I insisted that each manual had to have two indexes, one that alphabetically described each term name used in the manual, and a second one that was organized by a”how do I use it” list of the business functions that the software was designed to address with the page numbers of where to find that business function described. That functional index was a lot like your "own system” of punctuation.

I got her this book for Christmas that year. She keeps it on one of our side tables, her life story is incredible.
