I didn't know Stowers was injured until I saw your post. I agree that the best use of space is to start him IR because he was not going to dress anyway and it allows you to keep some guys who you don't want to risk exposing to waivers (Weru/Bernard/Morris/Majors).

You said that Campbell was your final cut but you chose him from my list as one of the 8 (expanded from 7 w/ Stowers going to IR) as being on the team. I think you miscounted your DBs getting to 53. You're keeping 8 - 5 CBS (w/ Ringo/Jones as backups) and 3 safeties - not 9.

I don't like Ringo on the team, but really, you don't have any other proven gunners/jammers.

Let's look at game day roster management if we go with your 53, because there are some issues that arise.

- You're going to have to use your PS elevations for a LS and PR (I don't want Moore returning punts, as he's only returned 2 in his career)

- You have to decide which 8 players on the 53 are inactive.

Campbell is definitely one of my "choices” but I found I had 54 chosen players for the 53 slots with him (as well as having 8!names for your 7 slots). I’ll go back and relook at the numbers for each position in my post. I listed the position count and the running roster total in each of those two respective pairings to try and avoid the problem you describe.

Edit: I double checked my numbers and the final 9 players being DBs does make the math correct if there is no Long Snapper.

The speed will come from the 9 DBs, of which Ringo and Carter are two. However, I do believe that the new kickoff rules make gunner speed much less important. Lane discipline has a higher value now with the distance the coverage team needs to cover being so foreshortened. Punt coverage does need two good gunners, but only two. Ringo is one. Carter/McWilliams will probably be the other. Does Cooper do STs?

I read an article a day or two ago that talked about Davonte's ability to create separation, that will go a long way for Hurts to be more confident throwing inside/middle in the new offense. The cut-down would be a challenge to the FO. Not at the top of the roster, which is set and looks good. The bottom part is the difficult one, with emerging players in TC, players who have been behind due to injury, and some development players you don't want to lose via waiver. FO has to manage this process with skills and good intelligence around the league.

I am a bite concerned about the new OC. No doubt he is a bright young coach, but with no play calling experience and limited NFL experience. Dealing the in-game situations could be a challenge. Nick may have to step in to manage the situations. Hope it all works out well.

In pretty good alignment here with roster, including Stowers starting season on IR for roster room, keeping 11 OL (especially Majors), and keeping both Bernard & Weru. Been saying that for a couple weeks now. As as far as Fred Johnson, do agree that he is most likely traded due to lack of fit and foot speed for OZ. Would look to get a depth prospect for the secondary for him (similar to Bennett last year). My only other add to your list is, I think Cameron Williams can make the team with a good showing this Friday and starts season on the 53, with Howie monitoring the waiver wire there for better options.

His blocking is probably a bit better than expected from the little I've seen and if Dalton doesn't airmail that pass then at least he has a stat. I'm definitely willing to give him some time to be comfortable and then judge him.

I will root for his succes for two reasons. One, he is a local product from NE Texas. Two, I prefer the league to stay young and we need as many of these draft picks (across the NFL) to succeed for that to happen.

Ty Robinson did nothing his first year then started camp buried deep on the depth chart. Now he's tearing it up (if that means anything). Every year people say it takes 3 years to judge a draft but then immediately judge a guy after 3 weeks. I get it because it's all we have to go on. And let's face it most guys fail so betting against someone is the most likely outcome regardless but it does take time for most players. Very few light it up from day one of camp through their entire career

Calvin Austin had a bad knee injury and is probably done. He was carted off.

Darnell Wright did something to his elbow.

Chris Olave landed on his back hard but sounds like he just was shook up.

Jamar Chase also banged his knee and quit practice early but sounds ok.
