Nobody hates him or even said he's a bust. Some said they didn't like the pick and he's not had an encouraging camp. It's not that deep.

Guessing Greenard will be headed to IR to start the season. Greenland and Stowers are my two picks for IR designated to return.

Kempski and BLG's criticisms of Stowers have been pretty light. If that is too much to be considered a hater then how is a reporter even critical of a player? Just gotta lighten up.

I would expect the ACC and Big 12 will follow suit in the next few days. Big win for student athletes and college sports.

The reports are that the ACC is considering a similar ban. I do think all of these bans open up the Leagues to additional litigation from the players who now have the additional eligibility. It's a problem tne NCAA created by creating the 5 for 5 rule for 2023 and beyond and giving the prior classes to the 2022 class an additional year to complete 4 years of eligibility. They should have just made the 5 for 5 rule apply for every athlete that had enrolled post Covid. You might have a few kids returning that had gone pro early but the reality they wouldn't have had the litigation. The number of kids with eligibility issues would be far smaller. What the NCAA did to the 2022 class is unfair and dumb.

The bigger issue is that they need stop with this pro/college dichotomy. In what other industry would someone working at a job prevent them from going back to school to get better trained for the job.

They don’t need to do that since he’s on PUP. But I think if he starts on PUP it’s 4 weeks minimum

Pssh I don’t think they’re being hard enough on Stowers. He sucks right now, even at the things he’s supposed to be good at. We used a 2nd round pick on a total project, with the excuse that he’s "new to the position” where he played significantly in the SEC for 2 years, and another year before that.

The only defense I can come up with for the pick is that #54 seemed like no man’s land this year, maybe Vic thought EMW wasn’t a fit, and Jacas would’ve joined a crowded room that just added Greenard.

Eagles have been doing this for a few years now, once again showing they are ahead of the curve.

I'm quoting this again because Vic just talked about how huge the joint practices were, saying they were the most beneficial of all the practices they have had. He said they ran 80+ plays the first day and about 60 the 2nd day as it was focused more on red zone.

While we don't see the starters getting reps in the preseason games, they are getting a very healthy dose of reps in those practices, which are much more controlled and can work on specific things.

Vic's comment about the roster caught me. Someone asked if his mind is made up or if anyone can do something to basically help their spot and Vic said it doesn't matter if his mind if made up or not. That it's about Nick and Howie's minds has to be made up

I think it was a panic pick kinda like Miles Sanders was. The two drafts before the Eagles took Miles Sanders were two loaded RB classes and they came out of those classes with no RB1. So Howie was like "We're not missing out on RB again, come hell or high water" and I thought reached for Sanders and passed on some more premium positions and better prospects.

Similar thing this year. The last two drafts were good TE draft classes, the Eagles came up empty and I think Howie was like we aren't missing out on TE again so he just reached for Stowers in the 2nd round. Which was too early for Stowers, Klare, Delp, but also if you wait until later those guys are all going to be gone. So I think he panicked. I would've just taken EMW or if they truly didn't like him, then trade down and take Chris Bell who I loved. Too late now, just gotta hope he performs, but I'm just not a fan of the player.

Stop. Plenty of people on this forum alone have given him hate. The "it's brutal for a 2nd round pick" line from the article is exactly what I said. He was drafted as a project. As a beat he should know that but he wants negativity and drama for clicks.

Round 2: TE Eli Stowers

Stowers was a high school quarterback who moved to tight end in college. He put on a show at the NFL Combine, where he broke records for his vertical leap (45 1/2") and broad jump (135"). He also ran a 4.51 40. He is undersized at 6'4, 239, but he is an elite athlete.

In college, Vanderbilt lined up Stowers all over the place, trying to create mismatches against slower linebackers and smaller defensive backs. Once he had the ball in his hands, he got yards after the catch using his speed, or by dragging DBs.

So that was the appeal: Elite athlete, high ceiling, some receiving chops.

The downside on Stowers as a prospect was that he was probably more of a big receiver coming out of college, and that he would need to become a much better blocker to become a more well-rounded NFL tight end.

Unfortunately, throughout camp Stowers hasn't shown much to get excited about as a receiver or as a blocker. He has not exhibited the explosive traits that are in his body, he has sometimes looked tentative as a blocker, and he simply hasn't made catches further than, like, 10 yards down the field. The guess here is that Stowers is swimming mentally, trying to learn an offense while acclimating to the speed of the NFL. He's thinking, and not just playing. The hope is that in time he will catch up mentally and begin playing fast.

But for now, Stowers is unplayable, and likely to be a gameday inactive. He is also currently on the shelf with a hamstring injury.

I've been asked if Stowers could potentially be a "redshirt" IR candidate, but I don't see that. The team used a valuable second-round draft resource on him, so they're going to want to give him every opportunity to get better during the season. If he's on IR, he won't be able to practice with the team.

Maybe the light will come on for Stowers at some point during the season, but I think the more realistic hope is that he's a positive contributor in 2027 and beyond.

As for "hate and negativity for clicks" that doesn't even make any sense at all. The headline is "Eagles rookie progress reports at the end of training camp - PhillyVoice".

By the time anyone even gets to the Eli Stowers review he already got the clicks without even using negativity.
