Jalen Hurts

Still could use more throws to the middle, but I was just glad we didn't see 12 throws behind the LOS which would have led me to believe it was actually Nick's Week 1 offense from 2021.

I counted like one hitch, so that was nice.

Those orbit passes were awful though, theyre so telegraphed, never liked that play

It would be pretty arrogant to take out the plays that Hurts is most comfortable with. Hurts likes four verticals.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s gonna leave some of the plays that hurts likes and that they’ve run in the past. I think as the season goes on likely going see more of his offense he envisions and what he wants to do. I don’t think it’s ever gonna be a 0% things we’ve done prior and had success with and it’s not going to be 100% just his offense either. like you said that would be arrogant on his part to do that. Imo as the season goes on and he gets more comfortable and team gets more comfortable with what he’s trying to do, that they’re gonna start incorporating even more of what his vision is and his offense. Frankly i tend to think it’ll lean more into his system/vision of the offense and incorporate into the gameplan some of what we’ve had success in the past with.

Expanding on my next post, I'd be interested to see Howie ride the pendulum of the NFL.

We built a running offense with a road grading offensive line and rode it to the SB. That came at a time when OL who were better at run blocking than pass pro could be had at a discount and when RBs came at a huge discount. (Look at the profile for Mailata, Dickerson, Becton). It's a copycat league and suddenly RBs popped back into the first round and some real massive frame OL who were rough around the edges started popping up in there too.

Not to look past Hurts after he carried the team to a W....but maybe the next iteration of value is a highly advanced pocket QB behind a cocoon-like, non-bruising OL that relentlessly and quickly distributes to smaller, faster, quicker WRs who always break open.

The problem is that the precision pass g game is MUCH harder to actually put together than the relentless run game AND it is more expensive.

How many QBs can actually operate a precision passing game? Because it’s fairly easy to get a pair of talented RBs. Heck, even talented WRs are more difficult to find than RBs. And all of these guys are more expensive.

Really jealous of how seamlessly other teams move the ball. I think my biggest feeling after week 1 is multiple things can be true

1) Got the win and that is most important, but....

2) I don't think how they won is sustainable. We saw it last season. Sunday looked like 2025 Eagles just more under center. You can't go through long stretches with 3 and out after 3 and out and expect to beat the good teams. And this was against Washington, which is a trash defense. And the "Well, it was a Brian Flores system, that can cause trouble" sounds like copium to me. Don't lower the bar, this is the Eagles, we aren't the Fing Raiders. Any respectable offense should've beat their ass Sunday.

3) Now it is week 1, so it isn't cause for panic time yet. But if the offense is still performing like this in October then it's probably going to be trouble. That product we got Sunday played out through 17 games to be is not a playoff team. The question is will that product be what we get or will this offense get vastly better.

I get your concerns but we're starting ANOTHER year with a different coordinator. 2024 I wanted Nick fired at the bye week and then obviously look what happened. its week one - calm down

Some teams did, some didn't. Consistency in returning coaches & players matters. Also the Commies defense is good.

And again: new OC, scheme, blocking, mostly new WRs, Dickerson was hurt, etc. Way too early to judge the offense.

It was a lot better than week 1 last year though.

I mean... I already stated that in #3. But to counter your 2024, in 2025 the offense started off crap and sucked all year. There is no science to it. I'd say the proper mindset is concern but not alarm.

I think there’s a lot of guys that are still thinking about what do I need to do instead of it being second nature. if you’re just thinking about what do i need to do instead of it instinctually being second nature reaction it’s enough to cause that play to not be as successful or not be successful. I think as the season it’s going to look more smooth and natural in what mannion’s asking them. Ultimately the offense will look less clunky and more sustainability on offense. I just think might not completely get there til week 7-8

Eh, we'll see about that.

Too early to judge, not too early to be concerned I'd say. Especially for someone like me who predicted the offense to be bad this year. It's not like I predicted it to be great and flipped after one game. Sunday is almost exactly what I expected and I picked them to miss the playoffs.

hmmm...... you dont say...

Maybe I’ll be slower to criticize the offense this year because of how truly awful Patullo was, but I don’t see a reason to complain much about the week 1 offense besides the OL. Want to see how it moves in week 2 starting a LG with 2 working legs.

Actually, it seemed to me they were on the LOS much earlier but were making alignment adjustments and calls until late in the play clock.

3 minutes ago, LeanMeanGM said:

The difference is the plays got in early, Hurts ran down the clock at the LOS, a deliberate choice, probably getting a feel how defenses reacted to formations.

I hate the Giants, but they had a really good game plan against Dallas. They’re ball controlled to keep Dak and their offense off the field was a top of the cap to Nagy/roman. They straight up bullied the Dallas defense on offense. It’s the Dallas defense, and they stink, so not surprised they could accomplish the feat. But if dart can not get hit/hurt and their oline can be physical against other opponents they’ll be a competitive team.

There were a handful of snaps that felt similar, but it never felt in the same universe as last year

Yeah the key is when they break the huddle. Would be interested to see if anyone has charted how many seconds are left on the play clock by the time they get to the LOS, not when the ball is being snapped.

Strong disagree there. They weren't good last year. Everyone had them ranked in the bottom half entering the season and they didn't do much to improve. They were missing their top CB. Sainristil isn't that good and they had the corpse of Rasul Douglas out there. They are going to be lucky to finish the year average.
