The Peyton Manning mold QBs are gone, now you need an OC to spoon feed a QB pre-snap. It all started with McVay and Goff.

September 15Sep 15 I knew the Chiefs would be back. Last year was the super bowl hangover of all hangovers. 7 Straight AFC Championship appearances and 5 Super Bowls appearnces (Including 3 in a row). Yes the Eagles ended up being the straw that broke the chiefs back but They hit a huge wall after all those post season runs. Seattle was foolish giving up Walker. The Chiefs always lacked a strong running game now walker will take some pressure of Patrick. Andy really stuck to the run for once, lol. Looks like the Trilogy is on course (Eagles 1-0, Chiefs 1-0), lol.
September 15Sep 15 Not even remotely surprised that the Chiefs are back. Just like the Patriots dynasty, these guys are cockroaches. They will keep coming back. And just as I said a weak NFL favors an underwhelming but proven champion team like the Eagles that knows how to win...you can say the same thing about KC.

The Peyton Manning mold QBs are gone, now you need an OC to spoon feed a QB pre-snap.It all started with McVay and Goff.I'm going to sound like an old out of touch idiot here, but I think mobile QB's have stunted the position. We are going on 40 years of mobile QB's being called "new" and the next generation. And every time there is hype that mobile QB's are going to take over...teams fell back to their pure pocket passers and yanked their running QBs....UNTIL....the current generation of QBs. Now, it finally, actually happened. Dual threat QBs are the standard. And without going nuts and referring to year-over-year scoring data, passer ratings, etc....it sure feels like pass attacks across the NFL are more erratic, more error prone when called upon in high volume, and generally less effective.I think it's just a simple mentality and developmental issue. If you are a talented runner and your coaches frequently ask that of you (as a qb)...from high school to college to your early years in the NFL...in the name of winning, it's just going to be easier to tuck and run than to scan the field longer for deeper progressions. QB's that don't run, from a young age, maximize every last ability and nuance to orchestrate and target their weapons in the passing game. Peyton, Brees, and Brady looked more like we do surfing channels (not that anyone does that anymore with streaming) than modern QB's do with their happy feet and calisthenics when fighting themselves in the pocket. One may argue that makes them easier to defend. I'd argue their passing numbers suggest otherwise.

Their passing offense was pretty trash tonight. But they have an elite QB, coach, and DC. That is a good foundation that will always keep them competitive.
September 15Sep 15 Expanding on my next post, I'd be interested to see Howie ride the pendulum of the NFL.We built a running offense with a road grading offensive line and rode it to the SB. That came at a time when OL who were better at run blocking than pass pro could be had at a discount and when RBs came at a huge discount. (Look at the profile for Mailata, Dickerson, Becton). It's a copycat league and suddenly RBs popped back into the first round and some real massive frame OL who were rough around the edges started popping up in there too.Not to look past Hurts after he carried the team to a W....but maybe the next iteration of value is a highly advanced pocket QB behind a cocoon-like, non-bruising OL that relentlessly and quickly distributes to smaller, faster, quicker WRs who always break open.

Broncos could be 1 year wonders, the passing offense made ours look like the 1998 Rams, etc etc. But seeing the Chiefs beat the team that should have won the AFCCG 31-10 gives way to "oh crap, here we go again."
September 15Sep 15 With two open spots - I wonder if one of them might go to Covey to save 2 elevations for later in the year if we get a roster crunch and need to send him down at that time.Which then got me thinking to another question for someone who knows the roster rules. Would there have been any downside to signing Covey to the 53 ahead of the 1st game rather than elevating him from PS as we had the open spot after moving Stowers to IR to preserve all 3 PS elevations for him. He wouldn't have needed to go through waivers when moving back down with his tenure now?

From about 2020-2022 everything was speed speed speed thanks to the Chiefs. Step 1: find a QB with a cannon. Step 2: get 3 WRs who run a sub 4.4 40. It is the exact reason why Howie took Reagor over Jefferson. Ruggs went way too early as well. Any WR who was fast was getting drafted whether he could catch or not. Kind of like how Steph Curry and that Warriors team made it that any semi-decent 3 point shooter would get paid big bucks in the NBA.
September 15Sep 15 Chiefs Kingdom is hyped for the Chiefs. This is a really young and hungry team. I do think they are for real. Mahomes barely did anything in the passing game tonight and they steamrolled them. Will be awhile before he's himself, but that's scary giving him a running game.Looks like they've fortified both lines. Their offensive line at minimum, is good at run blocking. May have gotten a steal with an undrafted free agent left tackle who looked like a stud tonight taking over for an injured Simmons. The defensive line drafted 2 high picks and they played well tonight. Think they have undergone another quick successful retool on the fly like they did when Tyreek left. Still have just enough guys with that championship experience (including their new FA RB) to lead the young guns.Gotta hand it to Veach. He's another Howie. Of course he's gotten 6 years of training in Howie's front office to know what to do. Hoping for that 3rd rematch in February between Mahomes and Hurts for the title. Beats the crap they put out last year with Maye and Darnold.

Lampkin seems just a bit small for guard and would fit the center profile better. Also, Lampkin and Jurgens together makes us smaller in the interior. Even though Kendall has very little experience at LG, I'd go with him to start.

For some reason, I think it's going to work out because he can execute Mannion's OZ scheme. With Steen and Kendall's mobility we now have a chance to execute this thing without being capped. Also, noticed Lampkin did not get any reps at LG, only RG & Center in training camp. So Kendall is probably their guy. Still have reservations about Jurgens lasting the season. But this should look much better right away. LD was like a black hole there.

Lampkin played LG in at least one of the PS games.
September 15Sep 15 I think it will be Kendall at LG with no change at center. Jurgens hasn’t repped at LG best I can tell
September 15Sep 15 It will be Kendall at LG, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Lampkin is starting at center in a matter of weeks.
