EMB Blog: 2026 Regular Season (Part 1)

Dickerson and Jurgens went to Columbia to get their "knees fixed." Not sure it worked.

First four games are always the "shakeout cruise," even when starters played in the preseason games.

More so when there are a lot of changes.

Mannion is a huge change, most of all for the OL. They definitely struggled with gap control.

Washington also played a very aggressive style to take advantage of OL breakdowns, I think Mannion wasn't prepared for two reasons:

1) his top concern with getting his players on the same page in the firsrt game

2) no film on the Commander defense, 2nd time they meet he'll have a better feel for their tendencies.

The good news is as Brady pointed out you learn more from the plays that don't work than the ones that do.

The OL breakdowns were partially Dickinson and Jurgens, but also just learning to synchronize movement off the snap, and that takes time.

More success on 1st down will allow him to open the bag of tricks instead of focusing on making the 2nd/3rd and long plays work.

Full Back and TE, drafted by the Packers originally and there for 3 seasons. Interesting.

I enjoyed that whirlybird tackle.

Troy Aikman is an AI bot

I think it would be wise for Ertz to go on the practice squad first to ramp him up. He may still not be ready, so hard to say the right timing on this if and when it happens. Let's see if Stowers is ready to come back after 4 weeks or is shelved for the season.

I’m okay with the PS, just not direct to the 53 man

Thought maybe Zach Ertz changed his name.

Fair enough. It's not a lot to go on but Shipley had 10 snaps on offense to Tank's 6 and 21 special teams snaps to Tank's 10. I definitely think Tank is a more dynamic runner for what that's worth and if Barkley has to miss time I would expect Tank to get the majority of the offensive snaps. In this particular game, because Shipley is a better receiver and Mannion's system throws a lot to the backs, he got a few more snaps and a reception. That proves nothing much.

Shipley also represents a change of pace from Saquon. Tank does not. That may have factored into their thinking.

Depends on how ugly the LG is

I'm sure they'll find a handsome devil to plug in there.😍

Makes sense - called them promoting Covey with one of the open spots and preserving his remaining 2 elevations should a roster crunch eventuate in the middle of the season. Should have done it ahead of Game 1 with Stowers on IR

Look at Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, Roger Staubach … the "prototype” would be absolutely abysmal options in today’s game. Even John Elway might be fighting for his life.

Got to disagree with you on Staubach. He was incredible with his feet.

I was very surprised that Seattle lets their SB MVP left in FA. KS gets a good RB who rush with visions and patience. Walker found open spaces to run thru and with power. AR will have a powerful weapon on his hand that goes well with PM of his passing game. A likely representative of AFL at SB this season.

It made no sense, whatever Walker wanted they should have paid. The Chiefs got a huge steal. Did you see him last night? He single handedly destoryed the Broncos. Patrick had a "Jalen" type game, lol. What's funny is seeing Andy completely committed to the run now, lol.

It's weird how they haven't found a returning who could double as like a WR5. Covey, nice returner, nothing against him, but you know ideally they'd just want one of their 53 to be their returner and not have a "dedicated returner" and they've just not been able to find anyone. Probably because it's not high priority.

Covey off & on the roster

Cam wasn't that good at guard when he was healthy.

He can do both though. It really depends on what they think Kendall can do

I’ll take mediocre Guard Jurgens and mediocre center Kendall over good center Jurgens and crap guard kendall

Probably working against Lemon in practice has helped him work on this.

Other Gems in the story:

On the Jags who beat the Browns:

8. Jacksonville Jaguars (14): Among the many reasons the Jags, who already sit alone in first place as they embark on their AFC South title defense, should get a little more respect is the edge tandem of Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker … even if it's not the best one in their division.

14. New York Giants (23): Don't want to overrate them this early, but Sunday night's victory over the Cowboys was no fluke. This was efficient, smashmouth, John Harbaugh football, and the rest of the NFC East is officially on notice.

@Joe Ball Don't worry. It's still your year:

15. Dallas Cowboys (9): Don't want to underrate them this early, but Sunday night's loss to the Giants was no fluke. America's Team still has plenty of time to make a long-awaited Super Bowl push … yet must still disprove the notion that these are the same underachieving Cowboys.

Some people are sports writers because they kept getting banned from message boards for their bad takes.

I don’t even know what to think about DAL right now, but I will say his last sentence about a John Harbaugh kind of game is dead on. The DAL defense or whatever that was they tried to trot out there when the NYG had the ball was a horrific. It’s not going to get better soon. I think there is a real chance they start 0-5 with the first win coming against the Bucs.

Kendall at LG, Dickerson at C when he returns.
